Not only lock thread, but ban Colbwa for the 20th time. Little fucker cant shut his mouth long enough not to ruin someones good time.
I know Colbwa was initially banned while Pupusa was admin. I am not entirely sure of the circumstances, and in all honesty, I don't really want to look through old threads either.
When Proverbs registered I noticed it, and put him on Read-Only. I sent him a PM detailing the conditions under which he will be allowed to participate at QCDN (keep bullshit to the flameboard, follow the other QCDN rules).
I gave him the choice to agree to those rules and be able to post, or be banned as Proverbs. He agreed to the rules, which is why he is currently allowed to post.
This isn't just a Proverbs thing, I have done the same for Afterhour (who decided to not stick to the rules after she send me a PM that she would, thus she wa sperma-banned), and Ya boy, who's doing quite good I think.
I am a man of my word, because when it comes down to it, the word one gives is all one has to show for where it matters most. It's coming out of style, I know, but when one gives his or her word, then that's a promise, just from one person to another, it's saying "I will do as I say.".
As such I assume that those who give their word, will stick to it. Naturally I know that many won't, but that doesn't stop me from giving them a shot (on the boards, or in real life), and punish them when they do break their word.
So now that the banning is out of the way, let's talk about locking.
I trust QCDN mods to lock whatever threads they deem lock-worthy by a standard of common sense and the few QCDN rules we have. So far that has worked out great. I have to say that I don't praise the QCDN mods often enough. All of them are able to not let personal views cloud their judgement when it comes to moderating QCDN. They all look at the threads, and regardless of their personal opinion they moderate based on the facts. I know that not everyone could do that, and I am glad that those who serve QCDN are a fine bunch of people.
The only reason I lock threads at times myself is because I am a board camper, and thus I just may come across a run-away thread earlier than a mod does.
For community peace of mind I have two suggestions:
Don't feed the troll.
Use the built-in ignore function as needed.
None of this is to say that locking and banning won't happen. It's more to explain under which conditions it is usually done. This is probably more info that you thought you'd get, and I am really not picking on you, just figured this would be an opportune moment to write a little more about how things tend to work.
I believe (and correct me if I am wrong on any counts in this sentance, lol) one of the reasons QCDN is well liked is that it's not run by a powermonger admin/mod team.
Edit: Heh, see, locked while I was gathering my thoughts on the subject. I swear I started my post before 9:40AM.
