if i purchased a pc registered it under my full name but do not have the receipt do i legally own the said pc that is registered under my name?

Oh lol. I got a laptop a few years back via Best Buy and didn't have a receipt. People lose receipts all the time. Shouldn't be a problem. Are you afraid of getting raided by the feds? lol.

No just curious as to what i can do legally about getting it from my former roommate.

Oh, he took it? ._.; Geez, not sure there bud. I don't know if registration is legal ownership. Especially when anyone can register someone else's property with just a few numbers.

how long ago and did you pay with plastic? did you buy their insurance thing? maybe they have a sales record that could get the receipt.

Best Buy holds on to electronic copies of reciepts for things like PCs for a while. At least until the warranty expires. All you need to do to get a copy is tell them who you are, what it is, and approximately when you bought it.

You can pretty much reprint any receipt at best buy, you just have to be able to look up the transaction. If you used a reward zone card, your name/phone number would be attached to the transaction, same with if you got a warranty. However if you just rang it up it'd be pretty much damn near impossible.

Putting your name on it does not prove ownership. Also for any judge to see your name on it, the person that has it would have to bring it into court. Now I know if i was in his shoes, first thing I would do is reinstall windows to rid puter of any old documents or stuff registered to you.

I betya there are a few registry hacks out there to change the registered name also.

Could also drop a different hard drive into it...

This all seems to be a long wounded way to get a laptop back.

As impractical as it is, go kick the shit out of your room mate and get it back.
