Let the Party Leader Lead the Party.

The worst is when you get the guy who cant speak engrish, parties for an hour then in the middle of the pull goes "I'm Sleepy" Disband......

Havn't you heard? Dragoons are the new WHM replacments!

Nothing new to post really. If I'm pt leader, just tell me 20-30 minutes in advance of your leaving, and I'm happy. If I'm a pt member, I flat out refuse to find a replacement for the exact reasons that Winklewil stated.

I mainly posted to relate the time in Garilage I had a PLD/WAR replace himself with a DRK/RDM^^... and make me pt leader before disbanding. I had to play the bad guy and disband the pt because there were no acceptable tanks seeking. Good times...good times.

People who invite their own replacements aren't helping the party any, but it's not their fault, not entirely, anyway. Leaders lead the party? When has this ever been the case? I've never seen a real leader. The "leader" is just the guy who invited the first member. After that, parties are all about wasting time debating where to go and who to invite. Most parties are inefficient democracies. Why let these leaders "lead"? They have no plans. When you take their invites, they'll ask you where to camp and if we should invite X player. These are your average leaders, and these are the leaders your average players party with. They always want you to do their work for them. People invite their own replacements without asking because asking doesn't make a difference. Sure, if you put together a party of QCDN celebrities, the stuff proposed here makes perfect sense. If your leader leads, then let him. Most don't.

My personal take on the situation is to consider why I'm leaving, and decide from there if finding a replacement is a good idea. I think of it from the perspective of the replacement, as I found myself little more than a D2 invite a few times. If the party sucks I don't get my own invite. Usually, by the time I'm leaving a good party, I'm not the only one to leave. In fact, I usually start the chain reaction of people who also have to go. If the party's bad, I usually follow the first person who has to go. Either way, I don't look for replacements for bad parties or disbanding parties. I do however, look for my own replacements if the leader hasn't lead thus far. The yellow dot just means you had the slightest bit of initiative in getting some exp. Normally, it just means you're an unpopular job. It doesn't denote leadership ability. I give leaders only as much credit as they earn, not a flat respect just for having the dot.

Is anyone else not disturbed by the replacements these people are finding? lol

Not just what the OP stated, but some of the other examples. They don't come close to filling the roles of the people they replaced.

Well,..I am guilty of finding my own replacement when having to leave a party. The way I see it you have one of two options:

option1: Let the party leader be responsible for finding another player to fill your spot,..but sometimes that can take awhile or the leader doesn't know how to be one.

option2: If you are going to replace yourself with another job,..it should be close to your job description, example: Drk replacements=Drg,Sam or War
Rdm=Cor; PLD=NIN

I'm sure that ever experienced player knows what to look for when finding a replacement,.there are just a handful who don't care because they aren't going to be around to witness the party fail and disband.

Number#1 Lame excuse to leave a party: "Sorry guys, my LS needs my help."
Heard that one hundreds of times -_-, be original; like "Sorry guys, my rug needs to be shampooed."

I usually give warning if I am leaving by saying {Time Remaining} X {Minute} but that doesn't always mean the leader will find a replacement for me. Usually they want me to find one. That's my reason for replacing myself in the event that I do. If I am a tank I try to replace myself with a reasonable tank. The reason I do not ask the party if my trade is "acceptable" is because they usually say no. They expect me to wait an hour+ till they feel like disbanding and say no to everyone saying "cmon you don't really have to go." Thats just plain stupid. If I have to or want to go, I should be able to. This is a game. If I find a replacement that's suitable (for example a DRG to replace me as WAR, provided I am not the tank). The group would usually say oh thats weaker find someone else. If I say I can't thats all there is, they say stay till someone pops up and "it won't take that long." Which as we all know it can sometimes. Depending on whats around I would try to find a replacement but after time remaining is up, I leave. I usually give ample time to find replacements but if people expect too much, sorry RL > FFXI.

if i look on my own for a rep before telling the leader and cant find one i fake d/c by shuttting down after killing a mob, the animation of me sitting shows up but oops, 30 seconds later d/c.. my bad.

p.s. dont tell

Basically, when you leave a party, you don't have any right to decide how that party will function after you are gone (unless you are told to do so or asked and been told ok by the leader.) So don't try to.

I typed out a huge long post but... Well I remembered something. Just because you invited someone out, doesn't mean I as a leader have to invite them. Sometimes to save the party, I've had to say "no".

1. If your party rocks, they're not gonna want to leave. The example given earlier of a rdm leaving and bringing in a Blue probably stemmed from the fact that they knew they could do better elsewhere, and your party wasn't worth their time.
2. As a leader, you have the responsibility to ask everyone how long they are planning to party. Yes, you do need to act like a parent as a leader if its a group you don't know. Set the ground rules before the party begins...your partying with a huge range of experience levels, and can't ever take that for granted.
2b. There are certain parts of the party that are not easily replaceable, others are. Be sure to abide by two for those that aren't easily replaceable.
3. Get over it, its just an exp. party
