Hah.. well I am kind of glad I didn't stick with XIV now. They aren't going to keep all same character info that you may or may not have been working on since it's original launch. So basically if you had a several max level classes and some really nice gear, kiss it all goodbye when A Realm Reborn launches.

GG Squeenix, punish the players that actually stuck with you. /golfclap

Actually, what the letter is talking about is whether or not they were going to keep the servers for XIV live after November 11th, even if none of the data is saved for the relaunch.

So it's not that they're tossing all the player data, it's that they're looking at a hard boot point, I guess, for the Realm Reborn. The producer was apparently planning to shut the servers down if less than 30% of the players voted to keep them open, and use the player data accumulated as of November 11th as the starting point for RR.

And in typical fashion, while nearly 70% of the rest of the world said they wouldn't care to play the game after November 11th if the data was just going to be wiped out when Realm Reborn hits, the JPs were a hair over 50% in favor of keeping the servers on even if there's not much point to playing.

I swear, the Japanese fan base killed XIV by not being willing to tell SE when they were fucking up during the alpha/beta.

They are not taking any character info away. They just wanted to give us the option to visit the old version of XIV for nostalgia purposes if we wanted. So they left it up to a vote. As of Novemeber 11th, The original version servers will no longer save data, meaning you can log in and do whatever you want, but the info will not save if you earn something or level up there etc. It is not taking away from anything that transfers over to XIV:RR. The only change in the new version is, Certain achievements cannot be gained, certain out dated gear will become rare/ex. Our gil will be scaled down to match the new economy. Gear stats will be scaled to adjust for the new system, waist gear will no longer be visible. These are all changes i can fully embrace for the sake of a better game.

As mentioned above, they are not wiping character data. They have simply picked a date in which you can no longer "save" your character's progress so that they have an exact place to transfer character data from.

They can't transfer character data if you're constantly doing stuff and updating it, so there needs to be a cut-off point game-wide they can work with.

Well that explanation definitely sounds a lot more player-friendly. The way I read it though seemed like well, what I already stated.
