I, am getting fustrated with these damn battles, i come so close every time, but not able to finish them off, i was just wondering how other smn's killed them.

Also, if you are able to make yagudo drinks, or ethers, something like that for the battles, can you send me a /tell thanks

I've got what I think is a pretty solid strategy down, I'll write it up for you later today when I've got some time at work.

Well, it looks like he didn't have time so I'll write up what I did.

I used a technique called the "2 SL method" & it's one I'll go into detail about.

When you start off the battle run all the way up to the avatar, but not close enough that they'll aggro. I'd say about halfway up, just in case. Eat a Fishmeatkabob (some people will argue, but the added defense helped me ^^) & drink a Yugado drink.

Summon Carbuncle & sick him after the Avatar. Run to the other side of the map, not all the way down but maybe at the base where the stairs start. Watch Carby's health, and as soon as he dies summon him again. Carbuncle will automatically go after the Avatar, and you should run to the opposite side of the arena.

Rise & repeat.

Eventually, after your second Yagudo drink you'll see the Avatars health being, about 1/3 down, maybe even half if your SMN skill is capped. This is where it gets tricky. Wait until Carby dies, and then re-summon him. Do not run away this time, instead hit your 2hr (this *might* get you hate) and have Carby do Searing Light. As soon as Carby does, run! Your MP will be almost depleated to zero & around this time the Avatar will do their 2hr. You'll need a few Hi-potions, because you're going to have to survive until you can recast Carby. Once you can, wait until you have atleast 60mp and then do SL again. This should kill the avatar. If not, then keep letting Carby fight the battle until its dead.

Sometimes things happen.

Once I got hit by Leviathan's 2hr.
I had to melee Shiva to death. W00t for club skill ups! O_O
Once I lost hate to Titan and his health regenerated! That was a waste. I just sat around & let the BC time limit end.

So, don't expect to win every time. But with this method you'll have a greater percentage to win. Sometimes Carby's SL will be resisted & do .. oh .. 100 damage. Not cool.

The other method is as soon as you start the battle to do the 2hr right off the bat & work to get three SL in.

ITEMS:
3-4 Yagudo Drinks
3-4 Hi Potions
1-2 Fishmeatkabobs, or any other defensive food
1-2 Hi Ether (you might need them, who knows)

That's my information & imput. Good luck!

Thanks for that tip, iv tried that a few times, and when i run i allways get hit by the 2hr. Lol i have no luck, but anyway thanks alot for the help il give it a shot and see what happens

Gah sorry about this, I have a memory like a sieve. What Alyada said is pretty on the mark, but in my experience meleeing will only take a bit of their hp down at the start, once carby has gone one round of melee, you will have to do 3 SLs probably to kill the avatar.

Same emethod tho, SL, run, resummon when dead, etc.

It is easy to survive being hit by the 2hrs, I've done it vs Garuda and Leviathan. Just use those lovely hi potions to keep yourself alive while you resummon. Also, dont take hi-ethers, they take too long to use and generate too much hate for the mp they give, use Ethers or a stack of Mulsums.

The most important thing to remember is not to panic, have carby out at all times (re summoning him is a priority), then make sure you have enough hp with your hi potions, then make sure you have enough mp (44) to use searing light.

I used this.

having a hermit's wand also helps, and I fought them all on Lightsday (Carby's strongest day). I still got my ass beat several times and I'm still broke, but I got my avatars ^^

I have the server record for Titan... 8)

I've said there are 2 rules for summoners...

1. Panic
2. Run away

And this applies perfectly to the summoner battles...

I used boiled crab because it gives good vitality and defense ups.

I make pineapple juice, so I used that in the beginning instead of Yagudo Drinks.

I brought 2 Ethers/Hi-Ethers. (They're about the same price and Hi-ethers are in stock more often, the only downside to the Hi-Ether is the extra long cast time)

I also brought a few Hi-Potions, but if you're following the 2 rules, you shouldnt get hit very often, and can most likely use Cure instead.

Step 1. Get some high lvl person to buff you up with Protect and Shell. It only takes a few minutes, and you shouldnt be rushing anyway, so take the time to get it. After that cast Aquaveil on yourself, eat the crab, and jump through the protocrystal. (You can try and get bar-(something) from them as well, but its been my experience that it'll run out before you get to them no matter how fast you are)

Step 2. Hit the ground running, and run all the way around the bend until you get to the last crack in the rocks, right in front of the last upwards slope, and you should be able to see the Avatar now, abeit far off. Drink a juice, (I used pineapple to start with) start casting Carby, and the avatar should aggro.

Step 3. For the moment your job is done, RUN! The avatars have a habit of starting off their fights with a BloodPact/2Hr. And those are bad. So you should leave all that to Carby and run back to the starting crystal. (Be sure to watch Carby name, if at any point in the fight it disappears, recast him, gauge what side of the arena you're on, and run to the other side.)

Step 4. When you recast him on the other side of the arena, Dia that fool before you run to the other side. Its not much, but people have lost fights over less HP.

Step 5. Repeat step 3 until your MP is around 80-100. When the avatar starts heading to your side of the arena, cast carby, drink a yagudo drink, and Astral Flow yourself. Ready Searing Light for when the avatar arrives on your side, stand somewhat close and cast it. (The reason for not immediately running is the hate transfer to you while Searing Light is being readied, as it is an AoE effect, the avatar needs to be as close to carbuncle as can be.)

Step 6. If you drank the Yag Drink, Carbuncle wont immediately disappear, so run back to the other side. Your MP will slowly tick up, and you have something of a choice at this point. You can use an ether, and wait 60 seconds before attempting your second searing light, or you can just wait for your yag drink to refill your HP as much as possible. (All this food gets expensive, so I try to save gil where I can) Wait until you have a new carby cast, the avatar heading towards your side of the map, and have 44 MP before proceeding to step 7.

Step 7. Cast your 2nd Searing Light on the Avatar.

Step 8. Rejoice in the avatars death.

Hope this helps a little bit. Watch out for Ramuh and Shiva, they like to paralyze. If it happens, spam Paralyna and pray. If you get interrupted during your first carbuncle cast, then you are standing too close.

Edit: Smilies!
