Well, i just got the expansion. I unlocked the Dancer Job with ease, but i was wondering what all can a level 61 DRK do in the past? And how come i can't go very far in Jugner... there are fences all around....

Thanks.

It's because Jugner hates you... A friend and I were lost there for an hour of interesting exploration before we realized that we had to go through Vunkerl Islet.

Campaign battles are pretty much the only thing you can do in the past at the moment. There aren't may quests implemented or viable camps discovered yet.

Don't forget about campaign OPs, you get a new credit each day and you can store up to 7. These are really easy ways to get allied notes and also useful for ranking up in WOTG

is there a good place for a WotG FAQ. Like how you get to each place? How you start campaign battles? What you do in them? What the rewards are/do/used for?

Thanks!

Also, would a 61 be useful in the campaign battles?

Campaign Battles seem to become pretty viable around level 55.

First you have to get a recommendation for the nation you want to join, then go the town and join their army.

You start to get Op Credits (one each day, like tags for assault). You talk to an NPC in your town (in Bastok it's an NPC where the AH is supposed to be) and he/she will give you a list of available missions you can do. The missions open are determined by your current rank in the army, and how often the other missions have been completed. So the really popular ones usually don't stay open too long, while the synth and resource ones are pretty much always there. After you complete the mission, you return to the NPC and you will usually get 400+ allied notes for completing the objective.

Once you've got some allied notes, you can talk to a Campaign Arbiter (NPCnamehere, C.A.) in the town and they will offer to teleport you to any zone that you've previously been to. You do /cmap to check the campaign map, and any zone with a sword over it means it currently has a campaign battle going on, or one just ended. So find one with a sword, and sometimes searching the zone to see how many people are there will help, then get the C.A. to teleport you there. Once there, you run up to the fort (some of them are right in front of where you teleport, some zones you have to run a bit) and talk to the NPC there with a sword by their name that's standing by the flag of the nation that currently owns the zone, and get your allied tags. Allied tags mean you're participating in campaign battle. So you just go around and kill enemies that have swords next to their names. When it's over, campaign music stops playing and you get experience plus allied notes depending on how much damage you did, how much you cured, how much you enfeebled, how many people you raised, how many enhancing spells you casted, etc. Talk to the NPC again and they can teleport you back to your home nation.

In zones that are controlled by one of the three nations, the NPC you talk to to join campaign battle is always by the fort. If the beastmen control the zone, then the NPC is either next to where you teleport or right around the corner (since the beastmen own the fort).

You can get anywhere from 10 exp up to over 3000 exp, and 2000 or more allied notes, but you have to do a LOT to get that much.

Campaign battle is a great place to seek party.

It's funny, I've only done one Campaign Operation, and I've been able to rank up each time. I'm beginning to think that rank is solely dependent on one's participation in the battles (or possibly in the amount of allied notes one possesses).

The FFXI wiki is a great place, as usual. But if you want, just give me a holler in game, or hop onto the linkshell sometime soon, and I'll give you a tour and explain a lot of stuff to you.

Basically once you get to the past, your priorities should be split between signing up with a nation and unlocking the Maws which allow transportation between the Past and the Present. The reasoning being that you can't participate in much of anything until you're fighting for one of the allied nations. Also using the maws is much like using a staging point: in order to be able travel to the Past using a maw, you have to use that maw to travel to the Present first.

(Also getting all nine maws unlocked as an added benefit of making travel in the past more convenient, as after you've signed up with a country, you can pay allied notes to warp to any outdoor zone you've been in.)

Depending on which nation you want to sign up with, you'll head to Crawlers Nest (Windurst), The Eldieme Necropolis (Bastok), or Garlaige Citadel (Sandy). You can switch at any point, but you loose 200 allied notes and are demoted two ranks.

But yeah, that ought to be enough if I don't see you ingame soon.

.

Its not solely dependant on either. Both can contribute to rank ups. Just need a certain amount, which i dont know what the amount is.

But still, I'm sure Campaign ops will have some reward to them, and hopefully especially something for people who finish them all. So i can laugh at the people who ignoring to do it now :P

I doubt very seriously they add any additional benefit to doing campaign ops. You can already get 250 exp and 500 AN for doing a 2 minute quest on any job. It's another good way to level a character without joining a party. That seems to be the focus of this expansion and I think they've done a pretty good job of it. You'll never beat out party experience, but you can do ok for yourself while looking for party.

I find Campaign is a great place to spend some time while seeking, you can earn some decent exp in a few short battles and it certainly beats soloing or sitting in your Mog House waiting on an invite anyday.

I'd be interested in how much a player needs to do to earn anything appraoching 3000 exp, I'm 73 blm atm and I nuke, enfebble, cure and even raise sometimes and the most I have ever got has been 1155.

That makes doing various campaign ops completely pointless. People will just find the most rewarding one for their rank and just repeatedly do that.

I'm sure there will be atleast something for finishing all of them.

You're looking at it wrong. You're looking at it from an individual standpoint. This is a Campaign, it's designed to be a bunch of people working together for one goal. However, I do understand what you're saying and knowing the playerbase, that's how it will turn out. But all campaign ops of a certain tier give the same exp give or take 10. The way it's designed, which one you pick determines the benefit your country will get. If you do the supply op then your army will be better supplied, same with resource missions and so on.

Edit for clarification: The main point is, your reward is benefitting your entire army, not yourself.

But thats the overall picture. Everything in this game has something to reward the individual player. Because honestly half the people wouldn't do it at all.

And honestly, I do OPs for the allied notes, not the exp. And I was getting 500ish from the first tiers, and now the ones I do give me around 800. So yes, I think near the end there will be some really good ones people will want to spam.

Like I said, I agree that some are much simpler than others, and those are the ones that will be done the most. One thing I didn't realize, but makes sense is that your evaluation is based on the amount of AN you received in that 5 day period. I wondered how they figured that. So yes, to receive the full benefit you will need to do the highest tiered op available to you.

I've broken 2k quite a few times as RDM and a couple times as BST. With RDM it involved a great deal of Dynamis-style sleeping (if there isn't a dozen NPCs around to wake something up and virtually MPK you), enfeebling, refreshing, curing, hasting, raising, nuking and kiting in battles that involved multiple waves of enemies. With BST it was less stressful and involved just moving along with the pack and auto-engaging mobs, sometimes kiting NMs and sometimes serving as a ghetto tank with Charm if I've run out of jugs and no one who's going to grab a mob's attention more is fighting what I am.

Overall I think it's easier for frontline fighters, tanks and a multi-tasker like RDM to get more XP than jobs who spend more time in the back and avoid unwanted attention. And of course the battle has to last a decent length of time and have enemies worth a damn. Two waves of orcs just aren't going to cut it. You want wave after wave with their most obnoxious NM leaders making appearances. Most fights, of course, don't turn out that way.

Conquerer Bakgodek and Jagidbod's Warmachine together should cut it. Assuming you survive.

Yeah these two together gets you alot of goodies.

I've quit sleeping too many stuff cos the silver fox archers love to wake what I slept and I get a bunch of angry orcs on my tail.

One thing we've noticed is that you seem to get more points for a large variety of actions than you simply do for racking up numbers in damage. When Osse and Jamal did a battle together Osse always got more points (as THF), even though Jamal was significantly outdamaging him. Once, out of curiosity, Osse spent an entire battle doing nothing but standing at the NPC and spamming SA, TA, and Hide and he still got like 300 points. Whenever I go out as BST I make sure to always do as wide a variety of actions as possible and I usually average about 1500 points per battle.

The amount of points you get also seems dependent on how many waves of mobs you fight, and how much support from NPC's and other players you get. The more mobs that show up, and the fewer there are to fight them off, the more points you'll get.

Yes I did a sleepga and got 6 angry turtles chasing me around when it wore, my points for that limited encounter were good though, doing aga spells may attract more attention but it seems to look better in the results when they give out points.

I'm not really sure if curing the npc players helps or not, as an experiment thats mostly what I did one fight and didnt really see a dramatic climb in points, healing players maybe though, in all my encounters that I did well for points I raised a few times also.

aga spells would be ideal.

You know, if your average Campaign participant wasn't an autoassist monkey. Fucking things except Kindred and NMs are soloable when they're completed ruined, people. Theres no need to assist and let the fort/npcs get hammered. Even with the shitty evasion of BST, I can handle most things alone. Theres even exceptions to the kindred/nms. Gi'Ghi is pretty soloable if someone takes the Peistes he summons, and Shadowfang's Void's are soloable as well, even as a melee. I was busting up voids pretty well on MNK with counterstance and formless strikes.

Ugh I've fought kindred a few times on bastok's doorstep and been swarmed by 10 Void's at once, damn elementals dont play fair. Ironically I was able to nuke the shadowfang thingy to death cause he was busy on a npc. :)
