Level Sync- discussion

Level Sync: to address the lack of skillups in level sync, I /sub BST (my BST is about 10 levels higher than the jobs I'm leveling) and solo a bit afterwards make up the skill difference. When I'm looking for party, my goal is to get a good amount of experience at a consistent rate and the level sync has been great in that respect.

FoV: again soloing with /BST, it's a nice bonus for killing mobs mindlessly over and over, it gives you a goal to achieve and a modest reward for doing it. I also like that you can warp using the Field Manual, especially helpful when the area is under Beastmen control.

Drawback: Some party leaders think it's a good idea to complete FoV in a party... FAIL!... example partying in Qufim near Delkfutt, it is NOT a good idea to kill however-many crabs, then give up your camp to try and kill a couple bats or a stupid worm. And no, I'm not running halfway across the map dodging worms, gigas & wights to go re-up a training regime. That does not fit my requirement of "get a good amount of experience at a consistent rate" and that's when I type "<Time Remaining> 5 minutes, find a rep.".

I only had the opportunity to use level sync one time. I was grouped in the dunes and got sync'd a couple levels below me or so. At first I thought it would be a really good thing, but the responsibility of keeping the party sync'd seemed to be a bit much at that level. One person dc'd, another afk, and next thing you know chains are broken completely. Interested to see how this plays out later on.

Love the Level Sync for 2 reasons....

1. Because it makes it possible for 6 people, ranging from 34-52, when NO ONE ELSE is seeking, to get a party and some levels, when prior to Sync they would seek for 3 hours, and call it a wasted day. Makes the game much more fun, and less of a time sync.

2. People will help out with lower capped missions more [looking at you 2-3 dragon, 5-1 lich, and mutha #%$@ing promies.]

Hate the Level Sync for 2 reasons....

1. Camps end up clogged, as normally people would progress to new areas if they are in a good, efficient party. But now you have people just booting a member, or waiting until one normally leaves, and just staying at a camp, esentially forever [Qufim Worms, Garlaige parties lasting 6 hours, etc etc.] More of a minor annoyance, as there are plenty of alternative camps to go to, just hard to get people unfamiliar with them to comply.

2. It produces gimps. I mean gimps in the way that they have simply no idea how to play a job at high levels, what it's JA's/spells/and playstyle is. Not only do they have horribly gimped skills [combat skills] but they have horribly gimped skill [skill in playing the job.] They don't even have to buy any gear. I'm talking about the 65 whm I had in pt the other day that had no clue how to keep up a haste cycle, how to use regens, or rest mp during the actual fight [a novel idea she proclaimed.] It could be debated that gimps would still be gimps no matter what, even before the advent of level sync. I feel that it can produce gimps that take much longer to be corrected.

The one thing I like about sync, is that people have to go cap skills. I hope they don't change this. Then it makes these players have to at least ATTEMPT to play the job at higher levels.

There is someone in my linkshell who has taken something like eight jobs from 31 to 75 since Level Sync came out by syncing down and partying in Garlaige Citadel. He says skill-ups aren't an issue because most of his skills were capped or near capped from the jobs he had at 75 before Level Sync came out.

On the other hand, there's someone else in my linkshell that won't take a level sync party more than three levels below his current level, so that his skills don't get too far behind to be capped in an hour or so.

This highlights my likes/dislikes. You can do great things with this. I myself leveled rdm, drk, and now cor to 37 each in the span of merely a few days. In the case of rdm and drk, I never left Qufim. I actually went from 9-19 in the dunes in only about 4 hours on cor. A far cry from when I was a WAR20/no sub and it took me about 3 weeks to get that far? But I wonder about some of the new players that join with me, or your friend, who find the exp fantastic, but quickly fall behind in the learning curve.

It's level sync, what are ya gonna do? Yin and yang, I suppose.

Yah, that's one thing that did bother me. If you're the person being synced to, when it was appropriate to leave. Normally, you can leave at any time and you or the party leader can find a replacement. However, with level sync, sometimes it ruins the party entirely if you're the only one at that level because now the camp is no longer viable. For example, if you're level 30 and everyone else is level 40+, you can no longer party in the jungle and the entire party must move unless they find a suitable level 30 player.

Its not much different from leaving and finding a replacement pre-Level Sync since you used to have to find someone your own level.

Uh... no? Pre-level sync, if a single player left a party, you could still function with 5 players unless that single job was extremely pivotal. Now, your camp is no longer viable and you have to move camp which for a lot of parties is a killer. You're talking about 30 minutes of lost experience at the very least if the party doesn't break entirely.

Oh sorry. I was thinking about the decent players who (unless there was some kind of an emergency) would find a replacement and leave after the replacement arrived.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot about the endless suppy of players in which to replace all jobs at any level at any given time. Oh, right, that's not how it works and that's why we have level sync now. So far when leveling with friends, I've had to move camp 4-5 times and I don't experience often. Each time we move, that's a good 30 mins lost because we had to move to a new camp which before level sync wasn't that big of an issue.

What confuses me is how they adjust equipment. According to the link on the main page, equipment is adjusted based on your level. All of the following aspects are affected: Damage / Defense / HP / MP / Status / Accuracy / Attack / Ranged Accuracy / Ranged Attack / Magic Accuracy / Magic Attack. Latent effect equipment are adjusted as well, (so thats good I can still use my opo-opo crown) but by how much exactly? Has anyone found a page or discussion that shows exactly how they calculate for the adjustments?

* Certain statistics for specific equipment slots may be totally negated, regardless of level.

* Damage ratings of weapons will be indirectly affected by attack speed ratings, while defense values will be indirectly affected by the character's main job.

* Item text will not reflect changes to attributes imposed by level restrictions.

* Further equipment attribute-related adjustments in the Level Sync system are scheduled to take place in future version updates.

Basically, how is one able to know exactly how their gear is effected depending on the level?

I have it in my mind that, the point that mentions defense rating being judged by the character's main job may be decided the same way wyvern breaths are determined (melee, mage, mixed subjob).

The only thing I dislike about level sync is how dependant it is on the person you sync to. Not just the fact that if they leave and no one else is that level you can be screwed over, but moreso because if they die, disconnect, run out of range, etc, the party loses the xp for whatever you're fighting. Nothing more lame than getting a mob down to 2%, having the sync person do something stupid and die, and getting 0 xp cause the synced member is dead.

It's better then sitting around for 30+ minutes because there arent enough people in the right level range though, right?

I'm not saying it isn't an improvement, just something that sucks about the system.

Oh yeah, even with level sync, I still get to sit around for 2+ hours without an invite. It'd be cool to get skill up in campaign, that would help things -.-b

Before level sync, (let's say for example) seek list:

20 PLD
31 PLD
27 BLM
30 WHM
31 PUP
30 THF
30 WAR
30 COR
40 SAM
55 BRD

Potential party, ok they all the 30-31 get picked up and make a party.

Now, with level sync there are several potential party setups. I know a majority of players out there are 'job-ist'. Meaning, sorry Mr. PUP and sorry Mr. THF. So, from that list of jobs up there, if the THF or PUP don't start a party themselves, they better be prepared to be left out. BEFORE sync, people would have no choice, but to pick out jobs within their level range. Now, with sync, party leaders can create the most ideal party. Thus, creating a disadvantage for certain jobs.

Now, with level sync:

20 PLD <--- no party (cause he was too slow to ask others)
31 PLD <--- makes his own party, syncs to 30
27 BLM <--- no party (what would you choose at lv30? blm or cor or brd)
30 WHM <--- gets invited
31 PUP <--- no party (cause he was too slow to ask others)
30 THF <--- no party (no viper bite yet...and he was too slow to ask others)
30 WAR <--- gets invited
30 COR <--- gets invited
40 SAM <--- gets invited
55 BRD <--- gets invited

Many other disadvantages include skillup issues, your target sync leaving (thus having to move camps), some camps overcrowding. If you are not capped or close to capped on skills, I suggest not doing level sync because you'll slow down the party. Of course, no one will say they aren't capped on skills and just keep seeking. Then wonder WHY THE HELL IS MAAT KICKING MY ASS? (For first time players.)

So I don't know, but I feel there are more disadvantages than advantages.

Anyone know how the equipments system actually works?
@lv21 with Empress Hairpin and Rajas Ring,
I found that Empress Hairpin gives me no DEX or AGI bonus, but Rajas Ring gives me +1 STR and +1 DEX.
Confused...

Unless you've been leveling under a seriously low level sync, you wouldn't have to worry about skill levels if you level sync again. You'd only have to worry about syncing to 40 if you've been leveling from 30-40 in a level 30 party. If you're really level 50, then syncing down to 40 isn't an issue skill-wise; or if it is, it's not nearly as big of a difference as if you were in a level 50 party so you're not going to be totally useless and you can skillup quickly.

So I don't know, but I feel there are more disadvantages than advantages.
There's only one disadvantage that occurs enough to be seriously considered as a disadvantage, you have to go skill up if you level a lot in parties lower than your job's actual level. It's a disadvantage that's EASILY dealt with by just skilling up in between parties. Almost every party I've been in on my SCH has been level sync'd; and from 55-60, I was constantly sync'd to 55/56 and was healing. Now I'm 61, and my elemental/dark magic skills were drastically under leveled, so I started skilling them up in my free time, while I was looking for a group.

If it's so easy, how would a Lv60 Dark Knight with severe weapon skill cap issues skillup without having to ask a Lv75 friend for help? I don't know the answer, but I've love to find out so I can tell me friend. Cause, I hate wasting my time to pick up for other people's slack while they sit there on auto-melee not even paying attention while I have to tank for them.

1) Find out what level your skill is capped for.

2a) Get yourself into a level sync party a level or two higher than that.

2b) Find mobs two or three levels higher than that.

3) Kill things.

4) Skill up.

These are closely guarded secrets that I learned from some monks in Nepal, so I'll put them in a spoiler tag.

Spoiler:

1. Skill up party
2. Besieged
3. Campaign, without allied tags
4. Make a party that will sync to a spot where you can get skillups without being massively gimp; repeat with parties a little higher than where you were before
5. Go solo stuff
