Okay, I have a serious problem here and I am curious as to advice..
I'm a RdM/Blm (61/32) and... I hate leveling now.. I've 100% solo'd
RdM 1-15/18-21 (and 12k Exp at 60)
BlM 1-13
Whm 1-10
Mnk 1-10
Thf 1-13
Nin 1-10
Smn 1-10
Brd 1-7
Rng 1-8
War 1-13
With the aide of a "pl"
Sam 1-23
War 13-24
Drg 1-13

but allllll of this has been in a "Solo" way, no pt's.. so exping is ... tiresome.
I love RdM.. but I -hate- exp pt's now. The mundane "Refresh please" being spammed.. with a few debuffs and MB's.. it's horrible.. but I want 75.. and I want it bad.. I want to be out there able to help people like so many have helped me.. soloing high end NM's with RdM/Nin etc etc...
But to do this.. I have to level Blm to 37.. Whm to 37.. Nin to 37... Drk to 37.. Whm is 18, Nin is 10, Drk is 4.. I don't like Whm.. (I detest it) Blm is boring, Nin is too costly right now, and Drk is ..... well a great job but I dont like it. So i have put it all off, making me a pretty sad looking RdM.
This is why I picked up Samurai... but now at 40, I am looking at 50.. to get to 50, I have to level War, which is 24.. to level War, I have to raise either Nin (10) or Mnk (13) up to 18.. Mnk is a job I wished to never touch again, but Nin, again, too pricey... It seems to do what I want, I have to do a bunch of things I DONT want to do..
So now I've picked up Smn.. and I love it.. but I feel guilty not leveling my Rdm..
Please .. I think I need a high level RdM to tell me its with the "Refresh prz" spam for hours on end just to get HALF a level then the pt disband ._.

or perhaps someone give advice on a different job.. I wanna raise RdM cause it is my job.. it's the one I love most.. I just hate the PT situation's anymore.. I've pt'd til my eyes damn near bled... Now even my fiance, who made a char 2 months after I made mine, is already 54... so I REALLY feel like hurrying up to 75... (oxymoron?) the Maat fight doesnt frighten me at all.. I look forward to the challenge..
I'd farm to afford nin but I am sick of being 61/15.. but to level Thf.. gonna need to, again, level nin ._.
Any advice would be really cool. :banghead3:

rdm is a great solo and nin u need help wind i help u i get your blink1,2 and tools as we m8s :P and PL u if needs be

Personally, I made it my quest never to hear "Refresh please" in a party when I levelled RDM. On my old server I had RDM up to 67 before I left to come to Quetz, and I never once got spammed with the "Refresh please" in an exp party; I put Refresh on as soon as it was down.

It DOES get old, all that Refreshing/Dispelling/enfeebling cycle, but part of the bargain you make for your fast invites as a RDM is that this is what you do when you level grind. If you hate it, then perhaps RDM isn't the job for you. If you can bear it, just get burnt out fast, then pace yourself. The speed at which you get to 75 is entirely up to you. Some people fly ahead, some enjoy the trip.

I do know that rushing ahead to 75 by level-grinding in a job you hate is a guaranteed way to make you hate the game. FFXI isn't supposed to be work, it's a game, you're paying for it, so don't waste your time and stress yourself out by playing a job you hate just to get to 75.

I wouldn't worry so much about the DRK or NIN subs til endgame. As for helping others out, a RDM is useful in almost everything, for many of the same reasons they're so desired for exp. It sounds like you enjoy soloing the most though, so why not give BST a try?

I do sense a lot of antipathy toward parties in your post though, as well as a general malaise; this isn't the first post you've made along these lines lately. Perhaps it's FFXI that's boring you and stressing you out. This game isn't for everyone, it requires a lot of work, time commitment, and tolerance for others. I would suggest you sit down with yourself and have a long talk about what you like, what you want out of your game, and where to go from here. You know yourself best of all after all, and pretty much all this thread can do is bounce ideas off of you.

I've got jobs (and another char) with jobs of all levels, so I could try to static with you to "ease" the pain of leveling ^^

stop complaining :( like every job you have, you complain about something. either do it, or quit... i mean if you hate every part of the different subjobs required for jobs, then dont play :(

hahaha sry hehe. Well here's what I did. Paladin is a cheap, fun job to play, it suits my goody-goody personality, uses both sword + magic, so it seems to be the best choice, but reguardless, this is what I did from the beginning....

I started game playing RDM to 18 (rdm fast to lvl to 10 solo), subbed rdm under WAR till 30, subbed war under PLD till 60, (by this time you should have experimented w/other jobs) jumped back on WAR subbing NIN (experimented) till I gained 7 more lvls (37), jumped back on PLD/WAR, whala! PLD is probably the simplist path to the top. Keep in mind you'll be seeking group for a few hours on occassion due to NIN popularity at certain lvls.

My NIN is 37 & will be staying there for a while now that I've kicked Maat's rear & there's nothing to stop me!

No offence I don't think you've experienced enough if at 61 your still getting the refresh please call. When I decided rdm wasn't that much fun anymore I was blind to the party they never worried about what I needed to do because it was done befor they even thought of it.

I think you need to sit down as well and find what you want out of the game. We all have to lvl our subs just shit we gotta do.

And ninja isn't expensive at all till 40+ that cop out won't work with me. Ninja is just a tough grind of lousyness pre 37. Crappy damage hate and ninjitsu so me go beat it up dual tank with another and your in the clear

Don't listen to the nay-sayers, Red Mage can be fun in most party settings. The cycle begins to eat away at your enjoyment, regardless of what job you do. The rewards are so worth it. Since I hit 70ish, I've been doing a lot more soloing/farming/skilling up. Got my quested weapon skills, some good gear, debating going for endgame shells, reading up on merits, the list goes on. If you like soloing, keep up with RDM, you won't be disappointed by your capabilities.

I just hit RDM 75 this week, after 108 days of play time. I stalled at 55 RDM because of the burnout and party issues you mentioned. I just shelved levelling for a while, crafted my way to Alchemy 80+, levelled all my low jobs to 10ish, played around with other jobs, kept myself busy helping out the LS, which is really where having RDM helped. With a decent sub, there isn't anything you can't assist with. That's where RDM shines:versatility. Plus, underlevelled subs aren't a crime when you help someone, they should be grateful for the help, not critical of your play-style. (Assuming of course, your shortcomings don't endanger people:biggrin:)

Finally some good people in my LS caught up and staticed with me to 75. Find a group and do it together as long as you can. Not only will a good group make levelling more enjoyable, but after a while you'll find fun little things to do that wouldn't be possible in a pick-up, due to familiarity. Now that static is going on to do CoP together, and I've got a new-found love of the game.

Edit: Just looked at your subs, gonna have to level them for party play, hate to break it to you. Just concentrate on WHM and BLM. Or pick one. But no one will take you seriously if you have underlevelled subs at 60+. People will assume things, regardless of your capabilities.

Woah.. stop. You assume hearing "refresh plz" is due to my inability.... think again. It takes 2-3 fights to get a cycle going.. then, if the PT doesnt suck, I cast refresh before it drops, and it lands AS it drops.. its the ones where the WhM is a freaking JOKE and I take the role of keeping people alive, I value life over mp sometimes (crazy I know) or if I miss them by :o 2 seconds they say it 2-3 times. That's not acceptable.
Summoners.. if you are not busting out Avatars and busting.. no way in hell are you getting refresh. THATS my biggest issue on it.. is idiot Smn's asking for refresh.. you have NINE HUNDRED MP+ I have 500 something! dont tell me to refresh you when -I- am curing more than you, debuffing, mbing, and refreshing 4 other people. and you just sit, toss out the occasional cure III, maybe a quick Aerial Armor every FIFTEEN MINUTES......
Where are the real players? I may not be amazing but jesus.. I hate pting with people that know their job via the brady guide or just dont know it at all.
At least I ASK advice..... I dislike pting cause people are inept. At times, I am as well, which is why I ask here how to better myself.. so I am not the Sam who doesnt know what an SC is.. or the BlM who uses AM and doesnt burst.. no.. just no.. -.-

Not much reason to level drk, I only use it for dynamis lord.
Ninja for a few NMs, and not many.
You can level whm and not need blm realy
you can just level blm, but some partys you will wish you had /whm.

Only job that has a right to say "Refresh please" is pld. And if your doing a good job refreshing, just ignore the annoying request for refresh.

If you don't like enfeebling, refresh, or healing, you best find a job thats you like more, cause thats all RDM dose end game.

I sudgest you keep leveling smn since you like playing that job.

That is why a static would be a better idea for you. It is easier to get into the groove of exping on a daily basis when you know wat to expect from other people in a pt. I've gotten 70 on RDM very easily thanks to the NIN I static with. And aside from taking 10 days away from the game, I know I'll get to 75 rather easily as well. Try to lvl with people you know, its easier and way more fun.

Amen brotha! Amen!!!

But yea, I'm a 61 pld and leveling is a royal pain the ass since you bastard ninjas keep taking up my slot. If it wasn't for BLMs, I wouldn't have a job. Blm </3 Ninja.

Plus, my two RL friends that started the game around the same time I did are both 69 and 71 now. Mainly due to the fact that ALL summer my computer was down and then they really shot past me, but even now, they level like crazy and do all these hard NM fights and things I can't even imagine look like. At times it does depress me, since I can't enjoy any of that fun because as a PLD, i won't be seeing anything like that til 73+ when I'm a useful tank. And no I'm not gonna cop out and switch to another job because "I'll get a faster invite".

I love pld and take it with it's pros and cons. If you really love RDM, then you will too.

She was in a static, but didn't seem to enjoy it in the end...

I hardly get a spam of refresh please in exp ptys since you usually just keep your eye on it, or you can recast it on those who need it after every couple fights, even if it didn't wear off yet.

Why not just find a static for your rdm so everyone knows what works well and will exp for quite a long while possibly, and you may not have to worry about those other troublesome things.

I'm starting a static soon with my 60 rdm as soon as my two friends get to 60 and three of them get G3 done. So far we have pld and drk (59), smn and rdm (Myself) We were thinking of two blms to either find to pty with us all the time or just to place in our pty when we exp.

I know you ingame and can maybe see if you could join us, the pld even said that we could melee if we wanted to just to make the pty more fun and something different, and we expect the pty to get fast exp.

There's only so much you can do in the game, so the best thing you can do is lvl one job and worry about one job at a time, and lvl those jobs you enjoy the most.

I only twice had the refresh spam problem when the PLD continually did it as SOON as it wore off. He had high MP throughout and was managing it pretty good. So ... refresh wears with him above 150~200mp. He keeps asking for refresh. I continuously told him that he can live WITHOUT IT and so can the party for 5 seconds (while I wait for recast timer, or healing that last final tick of MP). He keeps moaning that he can't keep hate without it (even kept spamming it during the THF was pulling, and I just only refreshed myself, so I had to wait anyway, he had 80% MP and NOT resting). That was the ONLY PLD I encountered with such a problem. Everyone else got along fine with my style.

The 2nd time was a SMN, which I decided, that after 4 fights, and seeing the SMN's MP at 80%, (she had 900 mp) and we were resting while THF looks for monster, I'm healing my MP, and she was next on the refresh cycle. She KEPT /telling me for refresh, and I told her she had enough MP anyway, let me rest 2 ticks before monster gets to party, but she wouldn't understand and kept /telling me for refresh otherwise she won't have enough MP. Looking at her MP compared to mine (470~520 give or take) I was kinda annoyed, but didn't refresh her in the end until the monster was nearly at camp.

Both was in Cape Terrigan/Valley of Sorrows. 59~61. Quite a while ago, but still, I ain't done RDM for a while due to work.
