Leviathan

Try the 3 SL strategy...I'm assuming it's the level 20 solo battles? If not I'll be quiet...if it is PM me and I'll be more elaborate

Well, Leviathan is actually one of the easier ones (I'd say Garuda and Ramuh are kindof the worst since one starts off with Blink, other does Paralyze)

Anyhow...(provided the SMN brings two ether and a yag drink. I'd recommend a pamama au lait and/or hi-potion or two as well, since healing will grab hate) -
What I did was go on Lightningsday. Get to the top of the hill (but not so close as so that Levi will sight agro) and summon Carb...he may agro your magic, but that's okay. He should try to start off by doing Barracuda Dive, if you run away it shouldn't go off because you'll be too far away..Carb should automatically start fighting Levi since he agro'd ya and crap. Use Astral Flow (and Yag Drink) and have Carby use Searing Light; you'll want to stand right by them until SE goes off, since giving Carb the command will probably shift hate to you.

One mistake people do is let Carb try to get as much hate before doing SE, which is a very bad idea, as you'll most likely get hate anyways, and Carby needs as much hp as he can have once SE goes off, as he'll hafto hold off Levi until you can run all the way down the hill, to the other side. When you reach the bottom, use an ether, and let Carby die or unsummon him..

Once you see Levi reaching near the bottom of the hill, resummon, and ready searing light again once he reaches you..this time, however, you'll want to start running shortly before SE executes, since Levi will more than likely 2H right after being hit with this. Even if Carby dies, run all the way to the top of the hill to at least stall for blood pact cooloff. Once you reach the top of the hill, use the other Ether, resummon Carby, and have it use the 3rd searing light. Since beyond this there's no point in running, you may wish to melee here in case Levi somehow survives all three (with enough INT, he should be nearly dead after just two)

I recommend a Hermit Wand for this to help with cast interrupt. With the above stuff and proper timing, it should be relatively easy, I'm 1/1 on the 20-cap on all except Ramuh (1/2) and Garuda (1/4), personally.

Another note - DO NOT use Hi-Ether. It's far too slow for use and the amount of mp given isn't necessary.

He means the 20 solo cap fights...

Here's what I did, it's an almost 100% win, though a bit expensive.

First of all, if she is a taru this may not work. You can try anyways.

Supplies Needed:
decent level 20 or near 20 gear, I'd go with vit rings or hp rings also instead of mp rings. Even if you are galka, your avatar won't be out long.

A good battle pole, I used merc pole (level 18 windy CP item) and I sugguest it.

1 fish mith/cheifkabob/boiled crab/tav. taco. (any pld food will do)
10 high potions (you should have some left, but it never hurts to be safe)
1 yagudo drink

Strat:
When you are at the npc that warps you, starting looking for a high level pld, whm, rdm for shell and protect. I've waited an hour and a half for one on ifrit -_- Anyways, get a friend to do it if you can. Despite what people say, protect and shell 4 WILL last long enough. So if you can get them, get them. You need at least protect and shell 2. Don't worry about bar spells, but have it casted on you if you wish. While the mage is buffing you, quickly eat your food and cast aquaveil. (AQUAVEIL IS IMPORTANT)

After you done this, quickly enter the BCNM. Go up to the avatar, summon carby and have it attack. Now, almost every other strat tells you to have carby tank, don't do it. You should be up front with carby, meleeing. Don't let him tank, take hate from him. I usually cast dia, para, banish and it did the trick. heal yourself with mp best as you can since you will be losing it soon anyways Melee it this way for a bit (not too long mind you), I usually stop when it's hard to keep myself healed without(usually when if I'm forced to use a potion) or better yet ,when the avatar has lost a small chunk of his hp, maybe 1/8. I drink my yagudo drink and astral flow, and use searing light after this. The reason you want hate is because carby -CAN- be interupted from astral flow, doesn't happen often but it's happened to me. So you want hate on you while he's casting it. After searing light, the avatar should be at half hp or less, and should be on carby.

If you did it right, and if you have your summoning skill capped, the avatar should use his 2hour before he melees carby to death, use this time to heal yourself to full. I've never been killed by the enemy avatar astral flow, and this is the point the potions are for. You can win or lose, depend on if you can get carby out. So time it right for best chance, use potions to heal if needed, and pray you remembered aquaviel. Once you get carby out, use searing light again right away, and it should drop. That's right, a 2 astral flow drop. The only one who has not was shiva, but I managed to melee her to death anyways.

Hope that helps, I find this a lot more effect and less chancy then the stand away have avatar tank method, a lot more staightforward.

And excuse the typos.. so late here. >.<

Not to point fingers or something....but the only way for their 2h to "interrupt" is if the avatar or you iS stunned/slept at the time of execution. Also won't go off if the target is too far (or, stupidly, if your avatar isn't facing the target anymore...), or, obviously, if you/your avatar dies before executing. Also, the 2h will completely crap out if you don't have (b.level x2) MP at the time...in this case 40...but it won't interrupt from a flat-out hit, ever. =P

Hafto agree with carrying a pole should you choose to melee at any point, though...

Maybe they changed it now, but I did them like the day after they released these fights and I had carby tank while casting(I first tried the normal 3 SL way). Titan was the first to go, and carby for some reason stop casting astral flow, he was facing the mob, titan was in range, and carby was still alive. And it wasn't a fluke, it happened several times, each time resulting in my loss. Finally after getting the hang of it, I used my strat and never lost to an avatar.

I also killed Levi without searing light, I forgot my timer was still charging, to I basically meleed him with carby to death, and I won with 1 potion left.

And yes Mish, after 70 levels of smn I've very aware of my avatar's weakness. And in Ballista I'm also very aware of how everyone makes very good use of them. Which is why smn are not so good for ballista
