The linkshell system is lame.

In the last MMO I played, there were 10 ranks you could have and each one had a different custom title attached to it that the creator of the guild could set to whatever.

What if I want other users to be able to make sacks?
What if I want my mule to have a sack?
What If I wanted to give people a rank based on participation.

They really need to work on this. It hasn't been changed at all since I started playing, or to my knowledge, since the game went live. And why do you have to /check someone to see what shell they are in?

I think It would make the community stronger if we could do such things. It would also be useful in Shells that actually need a rank system, like God shells where loot is split up/stored/sold.

I agree the guild/linkshell/clan system in this game sucks.

I personally think that you should only be allowed to have one LS as well though, but that would be heavily contested probably.

linkshell system is the by far the best aspect of this game...without it myself as well as I'm sure thousands of others would not still be playing

Are you joking?

Seriously. Have you ever played another MMO?

This statement blows my mind.

While unlike other games, you can have multiple linkshells, there simply aren't enough things you can do with linkshells. There is no balance of power.

Like if I have 2 people in my shell that have been long time members but hate each other, I still might want them to be able to recruit, but not allowed to kick. The only thing Sackholders can't do that shellholders can is Make a sack. pfft.

Because its so hard for somone to meet you in jeuno and get a pearl? Sorry, but I havent been in a LS that just hands out pearls for a very long time.

And your statement of "there simply isnt enough things to do with a linkshell."

Are you high? I do/did every damn thing with my linkshell for the last year, so if aquiring full god gear, killing every god 30-40 times, exping nin to 75, getting at least 500k exp worth of merits, killing countless NMs for fun, and most importantly of all, gaining friendships that I value more than any piece of gear I have and talk with more than I do events, then yea...linkshells dont really do much.

Maybe your problem is you havent found a decent linkshell, or arent leading well yourself.

Maybe your members need to grow up then. And sackholders can't kick other sack holders.

You have to admit, it would be amusing for linkshells to gain xp like they do in RO and gain other possible skills or something. There's always room to improve in every aspect. Nothing is perfect.

He's talking about the mechanics with the linkshells, not things your linkshell can participate in. In other games, you can assign each person different things they can do within the linkshell. You could let people invite anyone they wished, but keep the power to kick only on yourself. He wants the linkshell system to be more versatile than the current system.

As for only having one linkshell, I don't really agree with that. I have an hnm shell, a sky shell, a dynamis shell and a social shell. There is some overlap between the linkshells, but for the most part it's different people in each shell.

Trippy wants FF to be more like WoW, something that FF has tried to do since the release of WoW, and its also something FF can, and never will, become.

WoW trumps FF here in most aspects. FF will never, mostly because of the "omg not WoW" people that play it, become like WoW. It's a dead subject.

The huge problem is, Linkshells weren't created to be similar to "Guilds" that you see in other games. They were meant to be for groups to have quick contacts with eachother (like a chatroom for a Friends List, if you will.), it's just been considered a huge help when it comes to communicating thru things such as gods or Dynamis as well. But as I said...Linkshell =! guild.

I sort of agree with Decidence that at the very least, the number of shells a player can have should be limited. If you could say, only have one shell, it would be in your best interest to be loyal to it. I dislike the concept of shell hopping. People keep half a dozen pearls and put on the one that'll get them what they want at the moment. You know the types - they don't come on for weeks, and one day you see their name in green, and not two seconds after the hello, there's a big favor, and if you can't do it, it's another month before they're in your shell again. One LS related inventory items should be rare, so that only one can be on a character at a time. People who's shell disbands shouldn't be penalized, but the tendancy to collect pearls and shop around for favors, and the seemingly common endgame ls-hopping is a detriment to the game. Being forced to pick a group you like and develop loyalties to it is a good thing. This game needs more strong friendships and less selfishness.

I started typing in one train of thought and finished in another without retyping the start of the sentence. That should be "All LS related inventory items should be rare, so that only one can be on a character at a time."

Some things are made much easier by having seperate event linkshells, ie dynamis. If you get stuck with a single linkshell, you have dynamis groups left talking in /say outside trail markings, unsure of exactly who in the zone is in the shell, and shouting instead of talking in ls once inside dynamis.

If you want a shell that has different ranking for different players, and only allows players to have that one shell, make a shell like that. You can set the rules for your ls, and enforce them. While you can't easily make the "ranking" of players within the ls visible in game, you can use a ls forum to do so. FFXI won't hold your hand while doing so, and you need a lsforum to aid in doing so, but you can make linkshells act the same way guilds do in other games.

The LS system seems like an afterthought, a lsmaster can't remove an unruly sackholder unless that person has equipped the sack and online.

Usually the sackholder creates tons of pearls, hands them out to random idiots and never equips the sack while the lsmaster is online.

100% stupid SE.

WoW's guild system isn't that much better, but at least it's something...

honestly if you dont like the ls system or want this to be like wow go to wow they would love you over there. The single ls system would never work for this game nor does is follow the uniquieness of the game. This game is set up on a system of making as many friend as possible to help to accomplish goals. The biggest problem se was was to not locallize the servers.

That would be cool one huge server instead of all the little ones, but you have to think the kind of problems that would create with all the gilsellers getting together. unless they made like a weekly or monthly server jump that lets you go to diff servers when you reach a certain lvl or rank 10 or complete CoP. But something that would make you earn it.

Back to the topic at hand. I like the way the ls system is now i mean i have 15 different ls that do many different things. I got a whm ls, a few social ls's, and event ls's, and once i hit 65+ i will get dynamis and god ls's.

I would be dumb if you could only have one LS because you can have a god, dynamis, and social ls all in one.

The fact is that there isn't many commands that you can do with a linkshell, and there's lots of room for improvement, but if the majority aint bitchin' about it, then SE doesn't really give a fuck. It's a shame really...
