Linkshell thought

Note: This isn't a Linkshell recruiting thread, it doesn't need to be moved as this is just a thought I just came up with.

Just a simple question to those in the upper tiers of levels (50+ or so)

If someone was to make a big upper tier SOCIAL shell(aka we don't do HNM or gods) for people to join to chill in when their LSes aren't doing events. Not saying the LS wouldn't have its own, but they wouldn't do anything involving gods or kings or things like that which would cause problems.

Also I'm not saying they wouldn't let in people under 50, I'm just saying that's the majority of people already and usually people under that(on their first job) don't even have a shell.

Would you join? I'm not going to do this(for a very long time at least), I'm just seeing if the idea might be a good one, being that I see a large majority of the end game people with social shells on most of the time.

Main reason this came into my mind is because I remembered all of the huge LSes of the past like DragonFlame and CFH and ThiefGuild and stuff like that(they weren't really end game, but they had mostly 50+ people and we're literally huge in numbers) and I'd like to see a LS like that around again.

No offense, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to socialize with the endgame population proper just for kicks and giggles. I know a lot of people are in socials because they can't stand endgame players and their mentality, and ideally if you WANT endgame shells, you should pick one that you enjoy being in. Your endgame shell should be your social shell.

I wouldn't join. But then again, you wouldn't invite me, so we're square and understand each other pretty well.

I didn't say I was basing this on end game shells. I love my end game shell and it IS my social shell 90% of the time(10% being a extremely small social shell with people that I've known my entire playing career in it).

You really missed the point. I'm trying to say that I miss shells like the ones I mentioned in my OP and would like to see ones of the same member number and level range around again.

Well you mentioned both "upper tier" and somewhere to go when your ls's "had nothing to do." That really points to the direction of endgame players and nowhere else. If there were to be a huge social shell, it wouldn't have people in it who just drop by when their other shells have nothing to do. I don't think that can happen anywhere but on a huge forum. It takes an insane amount of walk-ins to make a conversation run in realtime for 24 hours a day. It would most likely be people who don't have any other shells, staying in the social all the time shooting the breeze.

Upper tier and strictly social aren't very compatible. If you want to do things, you're kindof a stranger to the social shell if you leave and do your own things. And if you organize things to do with your social shell, you're not exactly a social shell any more.

The way player communication works in FFXI is one of the imho major shortcomings of this game. In most every other game people can just make channels and hang in those chat channels. So you can have an LFG channel or one for open raids of whatnot. Just thought to throw that in there ..., someone needs to make a 3rd party chat client that allows channels and integrates with FFXI.

I already have two great social LS to hang out in. I couldn't imagine carrying around another one.

They already got that one. It's when you make a party then sit around for an hour saying,"No tanks on right now seeking", "anyone know any XX-XX tanks", "Hey, I can get a XX DRG", "LOL, do they got /WAR?" Blah blah blah.

I can only speak for my experiance with this game, but in general people are not able to juggle more than one shell very well. Within this context, even if you design an endgame shell to only be worn when raiding it eventually becomes a social shell as well as the endgame shell you joined.

This doesn't mean you couldn't try to make a shell like that, more power to you if you do i'm not sure how long it would last though, and i personally wouldn't be interested (^^;

Yeah i often accept talk ls's but i'm so used to talking in GBY i hardly have time to equip others (except maybe COP ls).
