Log in problems? wtf?

So i haven't been playing much this week and i have left my character online for days, without interruption. I decide to play tonight, and i get kicked off. Ok, no big deal.
no big deal my ass. i get network connection problems blah blah, you know that POL code. ok no big deal. i reset my modem and router and try again. i think all is good, tell my party that i am sorry and getting kicked again all of a sudden. So now i am in a battle to sign on friggin Playonline reseting modems and routers, ps2s and slamming controllers on the floor. i don't know who to blame for this nonsense BS!

that sir would be a helkern attack on PoL's server.

helkern attack: DDoS that targets a single outgoing port on a connection.

example: bob has dsl. his dsl has three outgoing ports.
1. picks up and connects to the internet
2. loads web pages
3. connects to things like ffxi, aol, etc

a helkern attack would target one of those three, leaving the other two untouched.

someone helkerned one of their connection ports (with the thousands of people logging in they have to have more than one) rendering it un-usable until they remove the infection. you're sadly connecting to this port and failing, as are hundreds, thousands of others.

thanks Tymon. I noticed when this was happening internet explorer was slow also. It might have been my ISP too.

well, at my old high school they had hoodies that said Got Wood? on the back. The school was called Tallwood.

my girlfriends old school was called Cox High School. Their hoodies said Got Cox? or so i've heard..

cool man. i thought it was just me and my other friend that played in my school. i guess not :P
 
There is about 3-5 more that i know of. they play on a different server now. i decided not to change servers.
