ok, I know that this issue is discussed in some threads already
but it doesn't have a thread for itself
i wanna see if there are other ppl who have the same problem and if they know how to solve it

my problem is that after getting to character screen ans login with my main, I get into my MH and right after that the game shuts down and I get that windows error message, asking me if I wanna send the problem

I am not using windower, so don't tell me "don't use windower, then it will work"
I already talked to a GM, and he told be to get another driver for my graphic card, so I downloaded the one recommented by SE at POL website, but still I have the same problem

i never had any problems with the game, till that new update

anyone else here, having same problem?
you know whats the cause of that?
you know how to solve it?

I had that exact problem, I've just checked files and I have 3 corrupted files:

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\97\69.DAT
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\97\71.DAT
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\ROM\97\72.DAT

Which to me seem to be BLM Tarutaru .dats (from when I messed around with editing my character) which dont seem to be much of a problem, but I've asked curjos to send me them. Check your files and see if they're the problem files you have too.

Also, I just updated my graphics drivers, no luck. So I checked with [GM]Dodry and he says I should wait till the maintenance today to see if this fixes my problem, if not he suggests that when I come to install Aht Urhgan I should uninstall completely and reinstall everything all together.

Hope this helps kinda.

I'm having that exact problem, reinstalling didn't do anything so I'm waiting on a patch to come out.

ok, I can't believe it, but I get ONLINE!!

yesterday I installed that older driver and it did not work, as I told you already
I was to lazy to install the new one, so I did a system recovery the last restore point was 2 days ago (before the update)

and today, I decided to try the newest driver, I downloaded it
then I, before instlling, deleted the current driver of my graphoc card and then installed the new one
restarted PC and started POL
I had to update again, both POL and FFXI
and then I started the game...
and I was online

game didn't shut down
I don't know if it works because of the latest driver or the update
but I am happy that I can play again

maybe this help you a bit
try it, reset windows to a date before the update, then delete the current driver, install the new, restart windows and start POL update and try to get online

Okay so I just reset to my recovery point on the 15th of april, I updated PoL (just PoL, not FFXI) and I'm uninstalling my nVidia drivers, god I hope this works...

I updated my driver but still couldn't get on. I'm going to have to wait for the maintainences to see if it solves my problem.

WooT!
Thankyou Celestin for posting your fix. I couldnt do the restore before the update to FFXI so i jsut uninstalled my graphics driver and reinstalled the one form ATi's website and it works perfectly now, also windower v3.2 works.

~Hellsangel~

[edit][note] I did not use the original software that came with my graphics card i jsut used w/e i found on the ATI website. Hoping this helps everyone and I would love to know WTF! causes this so i don't have this problem again. I was using windower 3.7(latest version?) and curious if maybe that caused the issue.

Bara, did you uninstall the drivers before reinstalling them? Windows is touchy with installing new drivers unless it is autoupdated. Try uninstalling, then installing.

I just got done with Celestin's fix, and now it's even more fucked up than before. Now, I get a window asking for me to put my FFXI disc into my CD tray, and when I do that it tries to uninstall the game. I have no idea how to stop this window from coming up or what even prompted it. I don't fucking care any more, I quit.

New here, just signed up to see if I can offer my help and maybe get some input on the problem we've got here in this thread. I'm having the same issue.. Log in, and get kicked back out almost immediately, before my character even appears on my laggy server. Started soon as that patch came out. So far, all I know from SE is that it's a probelm they're aware of and that they're pursuing but they don't have any ETA yet (as of yesterday). I was hoping that today's maintenance would fix it... but no.

I tried to do a rollback to the morning of the 17th, about 4 AM eastern, and I had the same problem that Baja has. When it did the system restore thing, it moved a lot of files or copied them or whatever into an FFXI(2) directory, and I got the same request for my CD as she did. I didn't put it in because it shouldn't have done that in the first place, and went and saw most of my files in that directory, and none in the dat folders of the actual FFXI directory. Baja, my advice to you is to reverse the restore (you can do it through the same system restore dialogue box).. I'm doing that now, because I don't like it messed up when I don't understand it.

But.... In essence, what you guys did that got it working was delete all video drivers, reinstall the newest possible drivers, and then force the game to reupdate? What I'm going to try then, since the restore point makes everything go so crazy.. is uninstalling the game (again...sigh), deleting video drivers, restarting, installing video drivers, restarting, and then reinstalling and reupdating FFXI, RoZ, CoP, and ToAU.. I'm not uninstalling POL though, shouldn't have to since POL works fine.

I'll let you guys know if this works, hopefully Baja I'll get a solution to our kind of problem soon.

Btw, radeon 9800SE with the omega drivers, if that helps. Switching to the catalyst 6.4 stuff that came out like 5 days ago.

Figured out what happened with that installation window that's been coming up. Apparently when I did the system restore it canceled out my reinstallation or really fucked it up. I ran the file checker and found a problem with 21,912 files, so that's really the only option.

Yeah, I noticed the FFXI(2) folder and I'm trying to move all of the files from the (2) folder into the normal FFXI folder to see if that fixes it.

I've got a GeForce 6600, so it's not just the video cards I think.

Edit: just noticed that it's EVERY GODDAMN FOLDER in my FFXI folder that's got that (2) bullshit after it, so I'm looking at several hundred renames. Give me an hour or so and I'll let you know if it works.

Exact same problem I had. x.x The first time I talked to SE, a guy by the name of Karlo told me to do a file check, it found 183 or some odd files that were gimped (but had never given me a problem before) and told me to reinstall and have a nice day. I did, and when I rolled back... blech. I opted to not bother with it though, all the renaming, because I didn't know if all the files were actually there or if it would just work like that, so I reverted and uninstalled.

Real pain in the tail to lose all one's macros and font color settings, though. >< Hopefully I'll be able to recover some of that.. Currently working on installing.

I had made a backup of all my macros and chat colors already, so I'm not that worried about that. If the renaming of the 521 folders(I checked) doesn't work, I'll revert and reinstall, but I figured renaming would be faster and might still work.

Edit: It might be faster, but it's definitely hurting my sanity.

not to thread hijack.. but..

bajara, how do you back up your chat colors and macros, i forgot a long time ago how to do it..

GL celestin & baja

I was about to ask the same thing. XD I know the folders with the macros for each character, but I don't think the color settings come with them. And that ctrl+shift+alt+b stuff.. I dunno if that actually works. The one time I got the restore to work off that was yesterday, and I can't get in to see if anything's been preserved.

Oh, I thought that the color settings were with the macros, if they don't then I'm going to have to reset my colors as well. The folder for the macros for me is

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER.

If you installed to another path it'll be the same after Playonline\
