This was an arcade game long time ago, yes?

Yeeeaaa. They're illegal now. There was a huge outcry against em, so SA banned them. My best bud gew up in SA, and I remember him telling me about that system when he first moved here. I was in awe.

what are the flashes?

When his sword flashes you have to hit the sword button, when a certain area or platform flashes you have to move in that direction. If you're half a second off you get to see a sometimes funny scene of Dirk dieing or just getting hurt really bad, you lose a life and have to start over. The first one didn't have the flashes and players were really left in the dark. The game was designed to eat quarters.

I was a little too young to understand how to play this when it was in arcades, but I remember spending most of my time just watching other people play, loved it! Don Bluth is the man.

atleast until you memorized it and then it was a bar trick to win it without dieing because there is really no skill to it.

Yeah, I'm sure the game lost it's replay value once you dumped a truck load of quarters in trying to figuring out the motions. Still though, it's the art and animation you really have to appreciate. I think my first introduction to action fantasy was watching this game.

Theres also another game like it that's futuristic, it's called Space Ace, never saw it though.

I think they released a game like it for the Gamecube waaay back when.
Although you wouldn't get the same experience. I think they originally came in special cabinets or something that drew vector lines on the screen.
