Lol some thief must have pissed Square off good

so wait.. you're all like "OMG!!! I MIGHT GET 3 ATTACKS WITH TRIPPLE ATTACK EVERY 100 ATTACKS!! ZOMG!! HAWTNESS!" pfft... it's nice.. but nowhere near broken

The worst effect a nerf has on any job is self inflicted. If jobs didn't get so vocal about nerfs, the majority of the community wouldn't notice them (especially one as marginal as the tp-floor nerf). I like thieves, having staticed with one for 20+ levels. They let the tank hold hate better, thus letting me have more fun with mighty nukes. I'd hate to see their invites drop, especially if it's because of a self-inflicted social stigma from complaining and resulting popular oppinion.

I don't think thieves have any real concern about Dark Knights overshadowing them. TP gain in my experience seems overrated in most parties. I've never been in a pt w/o a samurai in it that did two skillchains in one battle. The mob is always dead after one. Thus, you really only need to be fast enough to have 100 TP when the other guy has 100 TP, once a battle. In the parties I had with thieves, they always hit 100 first. By the time the second melee hit 100, the thief would be at 130 or so. Untill you hit 200, any surplus TP in between doesn't matter much. If thieves don't ruin their own reputation, they'll continue to be a respectable member of most parties.

It seems the sword in question is a pretty common drop from Cerberus, but I don't think it's gonna help drks all that much, and I think drk is a job that deserves a buff. 6% just isn't all that much. 6% at the rate a Drk swings is even more useless. 6% on a hasted ninja, monk or thief might add up from sheer volume of strikes, but Drks swing slow but make each swing count. I don't see a small percentage like this sword really helping them much. Six swings out of every hundred might proc triple attack. It sounds ok, but just try and count out 100 swings next time you see or use drk. The thief I staticed with would get triple attacks left and right. It was crazy, and kind of cool. This sword will never equal that.

Got to attempt though, it would be cool if they started releasing some daggers that had DMG numbers around 40. /drool

no drk or war uses great weapons in xp pts anyways who cares well i guess they can but they aint getting in no cannon pt.

Seen very few DRK use Scythe post-Spinning Slash, personally.

This sword pretty much should say "3% chance of instant death on WS". Even a 100% Spinning Slash can do ~3k on this, and that's not even counting if it's DRK/WAR (-_-@DRK/THF) and Double Attack kicks in as well.

Not sure if WARs would really use this sword...no Spinning Slash, and Ground Strike seems sortof meh without 300%. I dunno, though.

Ah, doublepost.
I'm pretty sure a DRK/WAR with full buffs can break 10k WS on Boreal Hound if Double and Triple attack both kick in.

Not true. I still use a {Great Sword} in xp parties. I never use axes, its just not my style. Im a WAR30/MNK15 and using a great sword has not affected my party invites. [I stopped after this and got the Ninja job, so I was leveling that before I had to suspend my account]

A question about that.

Say a RDM/WAR has that sword...umm...Riddil (sp?) and also has Double Attack.

If you attack, is it possible for Riddil to hit the mob 3 times, then double attack kicks in and riddils effect hits them again 3 times?

So.... 3 hits from riddil, 1 hit from double attack, riddils effect kicks in for 3 more hits....

7 hits? Does it work like that?

/thf is basically required for drk's using Spinning Slash, as apparently it is very inaccurate on it's own (this coming from the drk I have partied with since lv39).

However, if a drk/war did manage to land a good SS with Algol, only Triple Attack or Double Attack would proc - not both.

It'd be more of a toy. I'd love to have this for soloing; Shockwave is a bitchin' farming WS. I'd be hard-pressed to use it in xp though.

No. Only one multi-hit effect can proc per weapon; either Ridill's inherent multi-hit would proc or Double Attack.

Ridill's extra hits only work for it's own swing. Also, Double Attack is only +1 hit, Triple attack +2 hits, no stacked effect... (to my knowledge).

Most hits you can get is on DRK/NIN or PLD/NIN, dualwielding Ridill/Kraken Club while using Homam and a Roshi with Shogun Riceball food. 1-3 hits mainhand, 1-8 offhand, 5% double attack, 3% triple attack. Up to 17 hits I believe, but the odds of that are around 3/100000...but that's provided this multi hits of the weapon and the multihits of job abilities can both proc, which as Cmdr just said, they don't. (but I could've sworn they did ;.; bleh...)

If they can't stack, then most you can get is 11 hits with Ridill/Kraken..

Correct me if I'm wrong, somebody, but I'm fairly sure that a Triple Attack proc during an SA Spinning Slash would result in one Critical and three non-Critical hits, resulting in closer to 2k damage rather than 3k.

Also, Double Attack and Triple Attack can't proc on the same single hit, as Cmdrfly pointed out. You also can't proc a double/triple attack DURING a double/triple proc, as that could potentially lead to very long strings of attacks, possibly even a near infinite combo, with some luck - and would turn THF/WAR with a brutal earring and full triple merits into something akin to a minor deity.

I could see SA Spinning Slash with Algol going from 1k to 2k, or non-SA Spinning Slash with DRK/WAR doing 1500 - which is nice - but the odds of either one happening are very slim, and most of the time, a DRK/WAR will time SS to kill the mob anyway (DRK/WAR tends to ride a very fine hate line, on one side is pain for the mob, on the other side is death for the DRK).

Oh, and yes, no Warrior in his/her right mind would ever pick this thing up, especially not with Amood available soon (depending on its latent trigger, of course). Warrior doesn't have access to Sickle Moon or Spinning Slash, the two strongest Great Sword WS... totally defeating the purpose of using this weapon.

On a side note - I could see some really powerful Sickle Moons coming out of this sword... what with that being the only multi-hit GSD WS and being fairly strong as well.

Oh, and a DRK/DRG with a Kraken Club, doing Souleater + Jump is comedy gold. Jump -> 2000 damage, GO!

That may have been the case in the past; I didn't start learning the details of DA and such until I was in the low 40s about... a year and a half ago? So around that time or before that, it may very well have been different.

Something like that... I think the first hit lands @ whatever TP the player had at time of WS, then the next 2 hits would land @ 100%. I'm pretty sure that's how DA works at least.

I know it isn't the purpose of Algol, but I would love to see TA proc on a few Shockwave'd mobs. Round up 40 crawlers, hit 300%, Shockwave, see how many get smoked with a TA.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm also pretty sure that a DA/TA proc will be for the whole WS, not for individual mobs hit.

A Warrior could test this easily with Spinning Scythe or Spinning Axe (I think that's also an AOE WS?).

DA/TA will proc for each mob hit in an AoE ws. I used to farm with a Mercurial Sword, and using Shockwave I'd see mostly 100-150s with the odd 250-400. Sometimes there would be 2-3 per group of mobs.

Noticed the same thing with Circle Blade.

Also, Spinning Axe is surprisingly not AoE. Confused me too for a while.

I personally despise Great Sword on /WAR. If im /WAR gimme a Scythe and Guillotine. SS is too inaccurate w/o SA.

Oh and Tag I agree. DRK/DRG with kraken is supposed to be amazingly sick. One day maybe I'll get to try that out.

Er... "Occasionally attacks..." weapons don't proc during weapon skills. You're looking at critical hits, I think, not double/triple attacks. Still odd, though.

Agreed on your first point.

Second point, well now I don't know. Looking at the damage in an AoE weaponskill, the typical hit usually deals right around half of the dmg of the higher hits I have borne witness to. This is what lead me to believe it was a DA proc.

I'm pretty sure I have several screenies at home; if I manage to find time amidst the packing tonight I'll post em up for analysis. For now I should add that the Circle Blade instances I noticed were performed using a Dainslaif, which has no multi-hit capability (not that this means anything at all, don't ask why I mentioned it).
