Longest Thread EVAR!!!

starting from scratch, first i check the services on the server.
those were fine.

then i make sure all the mail stores are online.
behold! none of the mail stores are mounted!
(mail stores hold all the email and allow access to said email provided all the scorrect services are started)

so i try to mount the stores and it fails with nonspecific errors

i check the event viewer and find out that the backups (which run every night) failed. The backups are responsible for deleting log files.

Since the logs werent deleted, there were over 1800 log files on the server.

now, these log files contain information about transactions with and exchange server. these log files need to be committed to the mail stores every so often.

but the server has other things that it has to do first most of the time and can get quite a few uncommitted log files queued up.

so it applies the uncommitted log files whenever it has the time.

BUTT! my fuckers!!! if'n them thar lawg filez ghetz ta bee tew menee (lik mebe ova 1000) den dat der friky serva isa gonna krasch.

(aka: although, if them there log files gets to be too many (like maybe over 1000) then that there freaky server is going to crash)

sooo what your saying is....if GBB is the same weight as a duck, then he's made of wood. and if he is made of wood then....(waits for the Monty Python fans to finish the line)

so im currently trying to reboot the server but it doesnt want to and im about ready to just pull the power plug out of it...
