I added a couple new LS forums last night. So I created the user groups, then the forums, then applied permissions to the forums in such a way that the appropriate user groups can access it, and then the shit hit the fan and I hosed all other LS user group permissions in the process. That is because the way vB is handling forum access permissions.
The LS area looks like this:
FFXI Linkshell Area (category)
- LS Forum 1
- LS Forum 2
- LS Forum 3
So, I do want any LS user group to be able to see the category. However, if one is a member of LS 1, then he or she should only be able to see LS Forum 1.
When I add a new user group, and give it permission to see the category, that permission gets propagated down to each LS forum by inheritance. What that means is that the new user group can not only see, but access all forums within the category. Which is clearly not what is supposed to happen, as you don't want LS 1 to be able to read and post to LS forum 3.
Fixing this sort of thing is tedious and quite annoying.
