Quick question. If i had a Lu Shang Fishing rod, would i be able to use it level 1-100 skill for fishing?

Lu Shang's Fishing Rod was the best rod up until a few months ago, and is still the best rod you'll probably ever own.

Not only will it level you 100, but it was meant to. It's just about your only option for this, in point of fact.

yes, the first part is saddly true. i dont think anyone on our server has the uber rod yet...
the best way to start fishing is get a good rod to begin with and start fishing up moat carps, and keep on turning them in. at around level 11 is when you'll cap, so move on to more advanced fish, but be sure to keep on hitting the moat carps to keep adding to your super rod. around level 30-40 is when you'll get your rod if you do it correctly, and you'll be able to pull in everything at your level and below. the thing about the rod is, its got the durribility of artifical rods, but the power of the real ones. i wish you all good luck if your going for the lu'shangs, its an insanely long quest (it takes all summer if you really, really devout yourself to it..)

Well, actually, it has its own durability rating, which is greater than any other rod (synthetic or wooden) in the game. I believe it does have the "power" of a wooden rod, however, when it comes to a fish's stamina.

To tell the truth, fishing all the way up to level 56 while simultaneously fishing for moat carp is an option you could explore. You could conceivably stay in Windurst, and fish with nothing but insect balls, depending on the occassional gold carp to level you up once you are through the very rapid (comparitively) ascent to 11. People also like to do something similar in Rabao, but with sandfish rather than gold carp.

If you're beyond 56, and just want your Lu Shang's, it's better to find a place you can target moat carp exclusively...such as the lake out in East Sarutabaruta.

Then again, the "fish 'em all yourself" route is only for those with incredible patience, and nerves of steel. You'll most likely find yourself at some point supplementing your catches with as many stacks of moat carp off the auction house that your pocket change can buy. Remember that because of the daily fishing fatigue, you'll likely never be able to pull in more than approximately 200 fish you caught yourself within one day. It can take up to five hours (or more) to reach your fatigue level targetting moat carp, and assuming you DID fish for that five hours every day, never missing a day ONCE, it will still take just less than two months to get there.

Suddenly, 10,000 gil per stack won't seem so harsh anymore, as you'll be desperate for the boost. :/

To tell the truth, really, if you've got the cash, and you're serious about fishing, it might be a more sensible investment of time/money to just buy the rod straight out...once you're really ready for and need it, of course. You can get by without it just fine until somewhere in your early-to-mid 50s. It will pay for itself once you're in your higher levels, easily, in decidedly less time it would have taken to fish all the moat carp for it in the first place.

Besides, it's just really cool to have one. ^_^

Yeah it'd be awesome to go 1-100 on. Rarely will break and don't have to worry about any of the too small messages.

A little off topic but referring to the rod that's even better than lu shangs..... I'm trying!! :P

Grats on the Opal Silk, by the way. Ogami was telling me you got it. I'm jealous as hell right now.

thats the RUMORED effect, but no one actually knows.

I obviously don't have any proof that it's unbreakable, but in the FFXI dat files, there is no broken Ebisu Fishing Rod so that is why it's assumed that it's unbreakable.

Heh, I remember being in the LS when you flipped out and being like ... <Huh?>

perhaps SE thinks that we will never get it? ;)

Close to nobody will, probably. There was a time, however, when seeing an NA with a Lu Shang's was a jaw-dropping event, too. I'm sure at least a few will get out there.

In all seriousness, I think that the chances of the rod being breakable at all are pretty slim. It's pretty much the only possible upgrade to Lu Shang's, and the only justification for the incredible time sink they're asking for.

I'm glad they added the Ebisu quest. Really, once you get fishing to 100 there's not much left to do (other than making large sums of gil) for your craft.

I'm gonna make it my goal to get this legendary rod!! YOU ALL WATCH!!
