introductional summary: lucid dreaming is the state of a dream in which the dreamer actually realizes he is dreaming. usually this gives the person complete control over what happens, or in simpler terms.. can do anything they want.

a mp3 that can, for some people, cause a lucid dream if you follow the instructions on it:

http://www.urfbownd.net/lucid/Hemi-Sync - Lucid Dreaming Series 1.mp3

one of the original testers of this mp3 test says:

I can confirm first hand this works
I thought it was a joke and tried it.
Without going into too much detail;
It made me feel sleepy as fuck, then warm, then i felt like i was falling through my bed. I then began dreaming while i was still kinda awake in my bed, had a cool vivid dream, near the end of it i had found out i was dreaming, and was running around like an idiot and did some cool shit.

I've had quite a few dreams now where i've known i was dreaming and could do what i like.
So far i have:
Controlled time, drove a car like a maniac, drove a bike like a maniac. Had many dreams where i was killing zombies with shotguns and shit. Super cool violence and sexy guns. Flown in the air by thought alone. Met some crazy people. Put my hand through solid matter. Played video game consoles that arn't even created yet. not to mention having sex with anyone i like.

and for my own input, I must say, it's pretty awesome. I could really do anything I wanted, it was probably the coolest experience of my life, and I wasn't really even experiencing it!

some other notable articles:

This is in no way weird that I just "Waking Life" and you bring up lucid dreaming....

EDIT: Soooo yeah, good movie and interesting find. I'll be sure to try this tomorrow night.

I had a lot of lucid dreams earlier in my life. But lately, I can't even remember any of the dreams I have ;/

I use to practice OBE meditations and achieved something that would kinda take this off topic as i would have to explain in detail what i pulled off.

Other than that of what i mentioned above, lucid dreams was also part of my goal. To make a long explination short, the excersize was about keeping awareness while falling asleep.

I can tell you Lucid dreams are so damn real, it makes physical state look and feel low quality. What happened is, i noticed i was at home, in what use to be my bedroom which is presently at my mothers house. Except the place was better there was more space.
The breeze passing through the window on a perfect and sunny day, the air was so much of a pleasure to breath it was soooo.... something that makes you want to live, and there was these red drapes that seemed to belong there, and the original blue coloured walls it was different and i very much felt at home. While i was going through this i was very frightened, despite the fact i was in a world of paradise i wanted to get up.

Even though i never left the room that alone had a very overpowering content feeling as everything i ever owned plus more was at my disposal, along side other treasures that are nothing compared to something else i cannot describe. I wasn't alone.

It was a very shocking experience. It's not something one would just say wow to and not go nuts over. It's something you'll remember as though it were a day in you're life, as opposed to a blurry dream you can recall.

As mentioned in the original post, i would say that guy has alot of guts to do something as wild as kill zombies. Personally i figure alot of the input we collect in real life is an option in lucid dreams. He said he flew, i wonder if he felt gravity as though he was skydiving.

Interesting find Uzor.

I'll have a lucid dream a couple times a month, but I don't like to hang onto them for very long. Typcially, lucidity is followed by, "damnit, I'm dreaming again...," then the 'world' I've created screeches to a halt. I'll stop to 'look at my surroundings', get depressed, and wake myself up. Then I'll think about the experience until about noon (sometimes longer) when the residual emotional feeling finally burns out. Usually wishing that the experience was real. If a person I know was in the dream, it effects how I interact with them until the emotional impact subsides. (A testament to their realistic feel)

Call me crazy, but I don't enjoy them. For starters, it reminds me that anything enjoyable, regardless of how real it feels, is manifest. It just loses meaning for me when I'm interacting with... well... me. This goes without saying, but I'd rather the experience to be genuin. Otherwise, it's just mental masturbation. The only good thing that I've gotten out of it is substancial control over stress-induced nightmares where I've been coding in my sleep 'at work'. The absurdness quickly triggers lucidity and I can wake myself up, shake it off, and go back to sleep.

Now, the true nightmare for me is lucid dreaming without being able to wake up. I'm not sure if that constitutes as real lucidity, but that paralyzed feeling is extremely unpleasant. Luckily, it hasn't happened to me more than a few times. I don't believe in self-calming mantras, but I'll be damned, I did when I first had one of these! It's interesting to try and slip into subconciousness to escape lucidity while you wait for your body to wake up.

90% of my dreams (the ones that I can remember) are lucid. Everything just looks too vivid and sharp or something completely rediculous happens and it will just hit me mid dream "Oh I am dreaming". At which point I can control everything that happens. It can be quite fun.

I didn't find it, lol. Tymon did

vanilla sky ftw!!!
but this reminds me of the MP3 that allows you to astral flow, go around real places with your spirit and be out of your body while you sleep, i had that mp3 but never tried it, this sounds cool tho.

Sweet, I thought I was the only one who felt that. Atleast when I fall in a dream.

I've had very few lucid dreams but when I relize I'm dreaming, I usually end up waking myself up. There have been times where I was kind of half lucid dreaming. I pretty much knew I was dreaming yet events took place that I couldn't control. I can also say that I've controlled time throughout the numerous lucid dreams that I've had. Usually something bad happens like a dog attacks me, or its something super embarrising that I could never bare if it happened in RL and I turn back time to "redo" the event thats taken place to basically turn a nightmare into a dream or something more with an "at ease" feeling.

I've had other instances where I would just start dreaming and realizing it and wake up somewhat freaked out. More like a restless sleep. I get that sinking feeling like I'm falling through my bed and I hear this loud whooosh noise in my ears. I then feel as if my body weighs a ton and I can't move my head or my arms. I just lay there trying to get my eyes to open back up. Its like a battle to try and stay awake. It's a hard feeling to describe but its very uncomfortable or unsettling. First time I ever experienced that, I got that sinking through my bed feeling while dreaming I was on my way to hell, as I was sinking through my bed. I was part awake, part asleep. That really freaked me out.

Dreams have always been and interest of mine so I'm definalty gonna read more on this.

I've had lucid dreams before. Well not the in sense where I chose what to dream, but once things were in place I knew I was dreaming and I could change how things worked. They're fun! Usually seems to happen nearer to the time that I wake up. Then i get mad that i woke up and didn't get to finish whatever lol

When I was unemployed and living in my brother's house 5-6 months ago, I would often dream and wake up restless. I would dream very strange scenarios and become totally aware that this isn't right and I could run away or choose to do what I want. I usually end up getting messed up or falling off something to my death. I know what my brain feels when I hit the ground. It isn't pleasant, but is great fun to live from a very surreal experience.

A few people also reminded me of this great independent movie called "The Science Of Sleep". Lovely piece of art. Some quotes reminded me of the main idea of the movie.

In dreams emotions are overwhelming.

You mean Astro Travel. or O.B.E. (Out of body Experience.)

I can tell you how to do this even though for me the end result was different, and very interesting.

NOTE: It's a fourm of multitasking that requires focus at first. Body needs energy for this so makre sure you're well fed before you start.

STAGE: 1

- 1st. Use a bed or a really comfortable chair, like a lazy boy or a coutch. Be sure the body is clean and do what you can to prevent any itching that might break you're concentration, the smallest itch can ruin this. The meditation is for you to relax every muscle in you're body, as you constantly scan you're body to further relax you're muscles. fingers, calves, jaw, tounge, neck, everything and anything you can relax... Make sure you're head is set it a way it won't fall to the side or block you're air.

- 2nd task to do while keeping up the 1st task .....

...It's called 2-4 breathing. to the mental count of 4 seconds, inhale.... hold for 2 seconds... and exhale just droping you're breath, even though the exhale is complete, do not start inhaling until the 4 second exhale is up.

Best to keep 1 and 2 in mind. It's more difficult to achieve rythim when you're breathing slow, but when you do achieve it. something a little more interesting will happen.... So assuming you made it this far (which is breating at the same count and totally relaxed)....

STAGE 2: Again only,If you have been holding down the 1st stage, can you then step into this one.

The way you do this = Resist swallowing.

By the time you "step into" stage 2 you're throat will be so dry you'll want to have a nice gobble. If you do swallow you will upset stage 1 and you'll have to start over again. Just to mention, swallowing disturbs the breathing, also you're neck muscles will move, breaking some of you're relaxation. So resist swallowing and fight off the urge by accepting the dryness you feel making it's way into you're body through the throat.

For clearity, i'll mention stage 2 just does not come. you must "Step into this stage"

So going over STAGE 2. DO NOT SWALLOW is all. which will bring you to ....

STAGE 2.1: This is when everything you're doing becomes easier. The dryness starts to create clicking sounds in you're ears, pay no attention to them yet. just keep breathing and relaxing... Soon you'll relize behind you're mental count, there are the sounds in you're body that start to stand out.

*The sound of the clicking

*The sound of the heart beating. (It's beats harder until you can feel it)

*The sound of you're breathing. >>>As air gentally passes in and out of you're new sounding "dry wind pipe" you're heart is in tune with the rhythm, as breathing feeds the heart. With the heart pounding hard on you're gental breath, it litterally makes the wind pipe sound cosmic.

(Best way i can describ the sound of the breathing :The beating of the heart will tilt you're breathing like little punches. As you inhale it goes from silent to louder then fades back into silent, with the beating involved it sounds like it's eco'ing. As though the heart itself is meeting the air half way, it kinda absorbs each breath which makes it sorta stop and go with each beat., and stay in rhythm)

STAGE 3: This stage is different than the others. It just creeps in before you know when it started. Somewhere in the last stage, you've become very aware of the MUSIC coming from you're body. It literally is music, the wind the beating, the clicking, the way it sounds, the way it's pulsing, it's all exactly the same timing for each passing bar, and it's this that eliminates the need for mental count. You just listen/focus to this music and wait.......................

Next is the "sound and feeling of electricity". Which will fade in.

What does it sound like ? It's a buzzing noize. like a low humming sound. It also sounds like it's moving towards and away from you and it too is in key with the musuc. As crazy and delusional as it sounds, the electric vibe making this electric sound feels like it is rubbing against you're brain. and with each motion it makes the humming sound. Perhapse the brain recieving oxigen differently triggers this. Our bodies do have electrons in it too. Without them we would die.

Heart beat: Drum
ear/neck clicking: seems to be drum as well
beathing: is the rhythm, amazing, you set the rhythm with this by timing it.
Electric buzzing: Bass ... could have been lead aswell. Like everything else it was repetitive, and kept getting louder.

Perhapse i should have tried to create a melody for it somehow, but i wasn't expecting any of this to happen as it was not in the book i learned the excersises from. I was also very intreagued with what i was feeling and hearing. Even the dry throat was ok and part if the experince of experiencing music as a feeling aswell as listening to it.

.

(My personal outcome.)

Then i saw, what i can only describe as a giant cat head. With a really squiggly mouth, with very sharp teeth around each part of the mouth, which was opened kinda wide, as the mouth seemed to wave around. It had many eyes scattered along and around the area where the eyes are supose to be on a regular head, the eyes were un-even and they were different sizes and on different angles. It also sounded like it had something stuck in it's throat and it was making these awful sounds like it was being strangled. The Cat head was about 2 stories in diameter and it was coming towards me, like a slow moving train.

Funny enough i was not afraid and when the cat head came close enough. Out of nowhere from the 2 o'clock angle, a giant metalic fist came crashing down on the cats head. It was bigger than the cats head, and it came in really fast. When it struck the cats head it made a sound like chopping chickin and breakin bones on a cutting board, and the cats head was gone.

The Great fist appeard to be the colour Gold, decorated with silver, and had spiked knuckles with a spiked bracelet. It looked like it belonged someone or something awsome. It was very shiny. Like a glove that has a very promising matching set. Maybe i was not supose to see it, cause i would sure as hell exploit it in my art work. It was so shiny and buff, and still i have never seen something that projected such a mighty visual.

I reciently spoke to a LS mate about this who happens to be a spiritual fellow, and his words were along the lines of, "It was not something protecting you, it were you protecting yourself. in these plains we go to, we can make things happen simply by thinking it. You could have did anything to that strange creature you saw".

If he is correct, which he just might be, i can see how sensative our very thoughts translate when they "matter" in an untangible world.

The Enlightment i gather, is,... "What we have in our heart and mind, is what makes us out to be our true selves down to the core". If there is no consenquesce, will you kill or steal ? Some people enjoy this when escaping. Being a believer in God, this can be reason as to why he will not allow most of us into his Kingdom. If we are to be spiritual beings, we'll most likely be made up of the same substance as we are when we dream. Or even if 1 were to achieve Astro Travel.

Thats awesome. I myself have had lucid dreams and more often then not they are dreams in which I force myself to fly or manifest some weapon of protection. It seems most of the dream is scripted, like a movie or video game but you can create other elements out of nothing during the script.

yeah sorry, damn ffxi, Astral travel lmao. I know alot about it, got alot of books and stuff on it...cause ive done it once before and its scary if you dont know what it was.
I woke up but i wasnt able to move or open my eyes and i knew i was awake so i went nuts and when i finally gained control of my body i sat straight up in bed, On my way up i saw a face in my ceiling. For years i associated it with the old wives tale of "The devil sittin on your chest" until i discovered astral travel and found that that experience relates to alot of people who have had the experience...and the face i saw...was probly my own.
Still creeps me out.

Ah, I'm dissapointed... It just put me to sleep, lol. Although I had a very nice nap... =)

That happened to me a few times when i was younger. just the waking up and not being able to budge a finger, yet i can hear and feel. It only lasted a few seconds, and yes it sucks. Makes me wonder if that is what it's like to be in a coma. To be able to hear and feel, but not move.

Now that face you saw. I wouldn't know. I have heard horror stories about people bodies being occupied or spirits attempting such things while the original is OB. You being awake and upright, you could have caught a glimpse of what you had to force out of you're body to take it back.

What prevents others from taking over (for those who don't know) is the silver cord. It is said when one has an Out of Body experience they see the silver cord. On the spiritual body it is connected to the navel, like an umbilical cord. The other side of the Silver coad is attached to the bottom of the brain or the upper spine on the physical body. The Silver cord can seemingly stretch to any length without snapping. It's been said, if the cord does snap, you'll die.
