16?!? Jesus christ, is that store fucking huge? Or is it the only one in like a 100 mile radius?

My old GameStop got 16 and there are 4 GameStops in that town lol

Oh man. If only the closest EB and Gamestop weren't in a well secured area, I'd so knock one of them off after everyones picked up their PS3s, easy way to make a couple thousand bucks.

to be honest never could understand why anyone whould want the first issue of a console. First issue normaly have bugs, cost ton of money, an most the good games normally come out few months after the release of the console.

On another note, watching the thread name from outside, all that's seen is "Lucky enough to nail a PS3". Made me think "wtf?" at first xD

Yeah, but even though these stores are taking 4-16 pre-orders most of them will actually be getting 20-30 units at launch like they did with the Xbox 360. So, unless the manager works for Satan, it's as close to a done deal as you can get without having a system in your hands.

Man, you're lucky that they call you if your still interested lol. Over here, the employees make reservations for themselves, cutting out a good number of reservations for customers. My friend told me about the meeting they had to decide when they will take reservations for the PS3 (which was the next day). He did make a phone call to Gamestop, and the manager said that they will be taking reservations until it runs out. He had to go to school that day, but he had his grandpa go in the morning to make a reservation. His grandpa arrived at the mall 15 minutes before it opened, there was not more than 4 people waiting, and yet when it opened, they told the customers that they weren't taking reservations and that the slots have been filled... WTF??? The only thing that I can think of is that the workers told their friends about it, and they asked them to make reservations for them... that is so bullshit.

About the pricing, this will be the 4th console I buy with my own money. That means I'm one of the people that say It's way too costly (if you only see it as a gaming system). I made my dad buy me an Atari 3DO in 1994 and that was $800. Before that he bought me a Neo-Geo too ($700) in 1991.

I've owned every gaming system since Pong and all of them were 1st shipment and for me that is the reason they lasted so long. My PS2 and XBox are 1st shipment and they still work, 360 too and It doesn't look like its about to start giving me problems anytime soon. Maybe It's luck.

For me, having every system on launch is like a way of life. But the intelligent way would be waiting for a Price Drop.

It's so funny. People are like omg 600 bucks who in the right fucking mind would ever buy that! Screw PS3! it's gonna bomb! then a few threads later omg stores aren't going to have a butt ton of PS3's AT launch! WTF

Ever think maybe store owners don't want to dump millions and millions of dollars into a item that may or may not totally bomb? Then they'd just be stuck marking them down like 20% or something, losing millions.
It just seems to me people are looking for all the bad in this. I'll bet my left nut right now if theyw ere shipping 3 million at launch people would be calling them fucking morons for shipping so many since omfg it's 600 bucks no one will buy that!

That's what's so hard about marketing. My dad owns his own store, and the thing about marketing is, you have to order stuff half a year in advance. So basically, you have to predict how good stuff will sell. Sometimes he buys too much of something that doesn't sell very well, and sometimes he buys too little of somehting that sells really well. That's why its so hard.

However, you will rarely lose millions on an item that doesn't sell very well. One way or another, it will sell eventually. But that doesn't mean you should go out and buy a fuck ton of them, you have to be reasonable. And as long as you're reasonable, you'll do good.

The thing with PS3 is, that people will always buy it. Especially at launch date, since people want to be first to have one. It wouldn't matter how many the store buy, it WILL sell out, eventually. The reason Sony decide to ship a very limited of PS3's, is so they can make a greater profit. It means they can set a very high starting price, thus making a greater profit. All prices decline eventually, and with a high starting price, it means the price will be slightly higher then it normally would after a year.

That's the difference between Nintendo and Sony. Sony, decided to have a higher starting price through releasing a limited number of consoles, thus being able to set a high starting price. Nintendo, on the other hand, decided to counter Sony's marketing strategy by releasing a lot of consoles at a lower price. Reason Sony doesn't use the same marketing strategy, is because the PS3 is more expensive to manifacture. And if they used the same marketing strategy, they'd have to keep their prices rather low, aswell, and thus, the total gain on each unit would be lower. And since all prices decrease over time, the price of the units would eventually go dangerously close to manifacture price.

Its all about different marketing strategies. All it takes is being clever about it. Sony knows that people will buy the first console, no matter what the price, and plays their cards accordingly. Both companies use a smart marketing strategy, and both will go in to the green. So its not really about the store owners, its with the higher-ups.

That makes perfect sense :nyam:. If Sony could have 3 million units at launch, they'd have 3 million unit at launch. The larger the install base, the more software and assesories they will sell, and that's were they turn profit. Not to mention all the games that will be bushed back until the PS3's install base is large enough to profit from. Sony's constant screw-ups getting parts of the PS3 manufactored are common knowledge and that's the reason for the low number of systems. However Sony is having a press confrence later this week. I wouldn't be suprised if they announce a few 100k more units.

The PS3 will still be $600 next year and possibly the year after that.

The reason the Wii is $250 dollars and they have so many is because Nintendo cut corners to make it as cheap as possible. It's the weakest Next-Gen console by a mile. Not to mention there is no DVD playback, hi definition support, ect. Nintendo is hopeing to snag the casual gamers who won't look past the controller but when you actually compare the games visually, it isn't pretty.

Nintendo knows what they are doing, Sony just keeps screwing up. You should watch/read the press confrences that are posted online, not the most entertaining things in world but you can watch companies make a promise in one, then admit that they won't be able to deliver in another. Good stuff.

I know they cut back on a lot, and that's their marketing strategy. Making just another console with top graphics etc. would mean they have to to fight with Microsoft and Sony about the customers, and they know that its a battle they won't win. By making a cheaper console reaching up to a larger player base, they are planning on still being able to sell good, thus making a good profit, aswell.

You have to chose which battles to fight, and Nintendo knows that going up against Sony and microsoft is a battle they can't win.

lol Not true at all. Stores will most likely be getting less than their reserve quantity.
