I am seeking advice as to what to do concerning my main job. I usually only play one job and thats RDM, but lately I have become somewhat bored. (No offense to RDMs-it was fun for awhile) My job levels are :
RDM 63
BLM 35
SMN 22
WHM 14
(I have others lvld, but these are my lvld mage jobs)
Recently while playing RDM it has playing RDM/BLM the whole time joining in on Magic Bursts and I was somewhat jealous of the BLM in our party who do REALLY NICE damage. I needed to level up my BLM so it wouldnt become gimped as a sub (it was 32 at the time). While lvling BLM I felt like it was very fitting and I loved doing the damage I was doing nuking.
It was much better than Slow>Refresh>Gravity>Blind>Refresh>Dispel>
...etc. (you get the point)
On a side note, I have a LS friend who is DRG63 and we agreed to always lvl together, seeing how he didnt get many invites. I told him I was seriously considering making BLM my main and subbing WHM. This didnt settle well with him. He wants me to continue RDM until HIS DRG get to 70+. But I am seriously leaning towards BLM.
So my question is this...Should I hang RDM up for awhile (since I am not really enjoying it as much as I used to) and make BLM my main. OR should I continue RDM and get it lvld up, then go on to BLM? What is your advice on this? (from a person's POV who has played a mage job)

Thank you for your insight and I look forward to heairing your opinions.

This really isn't a mage-only question, it's basically should you play a job that isn't that fun anymore to help someone else, or play a new job you like more.

One thing I'd like to know, would it be possible to do both? Level your blm as a main, but level your rdm with your drg friend occasionally; not like he'd get much opportunity to level past you.

It's not fair for him to force you to level a job solely for his benefit, but it's also not very nice to just dump a friend. You might want to play on rdm again after a while, so not totally dropping the job might work. Plus at that level, you can farm more things to fund your blm.

Also keep in mind that if you go Blm main, you'll have to continually lvl Whm to keep up a sub.

I like Rdm cuz it keeps me pretty busy (enhance, enfeeble, nuke, heal, etc) but if that's not your thing, then there really isn't much you can do about that. I would say out of your job list that Smn would probably be more exciting for you.

I myself dont' like Blm much because it makes me upset to cast just one spell and take hate. I don't do well with that much power at my fingertips, i'm awesome with hate control with all of my other jobs (even Drk) but not this one. Wait, i'm getting off track, my point is if you don't like Rdm you're gonna hate Whm and i don't think it'll be worth it to level as a sub.

Definately take Baj's advice though, if you can do both to benefit yourself and your friend that would be ideal.

Thank you for response

Thank you both for replies. Atm I am leveling both I just dont know if I can afford it in the long run. I am used to only lvling rdm, cause my blm was 32 for some time. But thats probably what I'll end up doing for the time being is try to juggle all 3 job. I will probably continue to lvl blm as main while also partying occasionally on rdm for the sole benefit of my drg friend. But ya, Scrumpy...you're right - I dont like whm much, but its worth it cause in the long run I think blm will better suit me. Thanks again.

Really need to level whm to 37 anyway since it's a universally amazing mage sub. It's very hard to beat erase, -na spells, and divine seal.

Sometimes you will become the mainhealer of a party. Having WHM 37 really helps just as Euph said.

On topic though, all I can say is that my RDM is still lv3. Never really got inrested in it. Believe it or not, but making a good BLM is very expensive.

I used to play SAM up until 58, then I kinda bit more than I can chew with the whole gil thing. I wanted the most expensive gear, and I mean the best of the best HQ nonsense. (It's retarded I know.)

So then I picked up BRD, since I got monster signa drop once again, so I decided, hell, why not? Here I am LV68BRD and loving it.

Another reason I won't level WHM past 37, and BLM past 18 is the same as my SAM reasons, those darn Astral rings are getting way too costly... :(

But hey you never know man, my advice is to try every job at least once.

Just to add to what Euph said, whm is probably the best job to level to at least 37. You can always use it no matter if you're melee or mage for subbing when soloing stuff, looking for coffers or chests, trying to get thru aggro zones for missions/quests, when doin' NM's, etc. I am NOT saying use this sub in an experience party situation if you're a melee  .

I realize you're a rdm and you get a lot of the spells we have, but rdm/whm is a very nice combo also. I myself, am very into leveling jobs to at least 37 so you have plenty of subs. It helps you be more versatile for your party, LS, etc. Mebbe level blm to 37, then whm to 37 and go from there?

PS. If you do go back to rdm as your main, you'll want to eventually level a drk (and mebbe nin) sub. So there's an idea also.

As a RDM/WHM, my role was always different from party to party, from normal RDM stuff to main healing...

Levelling BLM and WHM was pretty much the same every party, however...
