Mages, most abused job in the game

Yah but its not a lot to be asking to return the favor. Also I know very well WPD links(he's a gob, of course he does, although not sure if Ose does) thats why I stated having to kill all the mobs in the area. Someone said killing Mysticmaker is dangerous because the area is filled with agro and links, but so are the other two. I just think mages get left out a lot more often than melees. Besides AF and Genkai when was the last alliance you saw that went out to get items for a bunch of mages? I've been to a few Ohat runs, never saw a mage get one, not even a red mage. If I shouted in Jueno for help to get an Optical Hat, how many people would offer to help me? Hell, how many would give me a hard time since I am a white mage or even harass me "because I don't need it"? I bet half of you reading this think I don't even deserve the optical hat because its "wasted" on me. Now that everyone knows about the Ugg. Pendant I am sure there will be a lot more alliances trying to get it but even that items not for all mages.

I also seem to think a huge part of the problem is that most of the items a mage would ever want are not ex and the assumption when camping an item that is not ex is to sell it. An Ohat is ex so it has no AH value but when it comes time to camp a NM that drops a cash item, people want a piece of the money. Even if the mage were to use the item now, later on they may sell it when everyone else took the time to farm it.

Don't compare this to sky. Sky works on a system based on your linkshell and all items are given to members this way. However, we are not talking about sky NM here, we are talking about normal NM anyone can get to. Some ls include ohat runs into and others do not. I've also talked with black mages who wanted help from their ls on a NM fight. They have helped out the ls a lot, done Ohat runs when they were needed and when they asked for help on a NM they wanted which required atleast a party to kill, no one was willing to offer them assistance.

Yes its true you don't ever have to help someone. I can sit in Jueno all day and not help a single person. But then again, if I want help and am never offering to help, how many people do you think would be willing to help me out?

Do mages even have Forced pop NM's? Or is this about having items that aren't usually given priority to mages? I'm kinda lost.

i know my blm and whm would get tons of use out of an assault jerkin...o wait....THEY CAN"T EQUIP IT..... fin~

You're the problem tho. I don't see you stopping an experience party to get Mysticmaker for the black mage but when ose or wyvernpoacher spawns the entire party wants to attempt it.

I've only been XPing in onzozo when i caught mysticmaker on scan, and yes my party killed it and no the earring didn't drop. Don't rant at me when you don't know anything about me.

I think the problem is just having to deal with shitty people. That's why I've decided to only help friends and LS members, they help back.

On the flip side, though, mage beastmen generally drop decent to useful spells for the mages basically from 1-75.

When was the last time you saw a normal XP mob drop an even marginally useful piece of equipment for melees? I remember WHM gobs in Onzozo dropping freakin' level 1 staves.

Well, basically, most mage equip that drop of a HNM can be sold,
be it from forcepop or regular HNM. So people think; "Hmmm, i can
make money out of this, screw y'all i want my cut". But melee equip,
most is rare/ex, for example BQ-ring, OH-hat, Joyuse, assault jerkin,
and so on and so forth, Her point being that you can practically never
ask an alliance to go get a serket ring for a whm, but to get a joyuse
for a pld isnt a problem. And i cant really think of any HNM you would
go to solely for the purpose to help out a mage. Me personally dont have a problem with getting help for a forcepop NM from my ls though,
and not a single mage in my ls has been turned down from a OH or a
BQ or something like that. I can understand her feeling of beeing shafted though, but i'd say its SE's fault for not making more of the good mage
equipment Rare/Ex.

One has monetary value and the other doesn't so that statement is not valid.

That's his point. Would you get into an alliance/party to camp Serket, knowing that you'll be passing the ring to a mage? Of course not. But, would you get into an alliance/party to camp Charby, knowing that a pld will be getting the sword? More than likely.

People want gil. Majority of mage gear/spells are sellable. In this game, greed will (almost) always come before need. Personally, if it can't be duo'd/trio'd, I pretty much don't bother with it. :?

To the first poster, no! Shame on you. /em smacks <t>'s hand. Ose drops something none of your jobs can use. That drg in your party can use it in a few lvls. Don't screw someone over just because you can. Especially on something that's completely worthless to you. Saying "Well, I helped kill it" is stupid. Go lot on the whisker then. At least you can sell that.

I think I pretty much do the same. Unless I really wanna help someone that's not in the LS.

Yeah, you kinda just proved my point for me.
Thanks :)

Pathetic

This thrad is all about greed. I'm a mage class and I help melee alot with Ohat runs Assualt jerkin Runs and so on. I also have helped blms with moldavite and Temple Necklace. If there is a certian item that you want, such as the Ohat I suggest you raise one of the jobs that are able to equip it to the appropriate lvl to use it, and ppl would be glad to help you with that NM. Simply put, I refuse to help ppl get show items. I have died many times on Ohat runs and other Rare/Exclusive items, for them to just be kept in Mog Safe and not used. I suggest ppl are complaining about getting items they can't use, and take at what you are saying. All I hear is "I Want, I Want". Again, get your jobs to an appropriate lvl, and then let me know, and I'd be more then glad to help.

I highly doubt a nin, rdm, brd, and whatever else would come help me kill charby without either being friends with me or being given a reward, so prz remove joyeuse, kthx =P

IMO this thread isn't about greed perse it's about mages basicly having a cakewalk through their job via invites, drops, and being needed to do ANYTHING (damn near) in the game and not having respect for the melee jobs that cover their ass and make sure they don't get killed. Personally i'm all about helping just about anyone if i'm interested in what they're doing, spent 3 days in onzozo over an earring i didn't need for 2 mages, got myself involved in a nice big fat flame over it too, don't see me posting a thread about those frail, weak-ass, needy mages do you?

Flat out, if yer gonna help help and stfu about it, otherwise you're no help at all.

we're not going to turn this into a mages vs melee battle are we? because we have already covered this and also he was complaining that few people help mages out with items because they are greedy bastards who would rather sell them insread of letting the mage equip it, and how melee have rare/ex items and have less of a problem as a result.

umm

ya i dont think its the "crybaby" melees saying not to lot.... almost everyone thinks that lotting is a very noobish way to do things.. if you have a problem helping keep yourself anon or just say no.

My point is this and only this:

Helping isn't compulsory, neither is bitching about being a "helpful" person whilst in the same breath knocking those who you've helped for whatever reason.

More than likely this thread should have been bashing the helpful vs the in-need-of-help, however since i read it (and could have possibly been out of context or mis-interpreted) as mages being abused when this is SO not the case i felt the need to ramble about it a bit since alot of mages i know basicly breezed through their jobs on the backs of melees and tanks.

Really? in my experience tanks and melees have breezed through by me spam curing my ass off to keep them alive, because they cannot do their jobs...
