Mages, most abused job in the game

sorry

ok im sorry i just didnt understand some of the game terms.. i was just getting a bit confused.. my bad. anyways ya that sounds right.. im nto sure why any argument ever arose.. so im just gonna cut out now..

I agree with Cubs' post, each job type has benefits over the other. Mages get invites, Melee get gear.

IMO this thread isn't about greed perse it's about mages basicly having a cakewalk through their job via invites, drops, and being needed to do ANYTHING (damn near) in the game and not having respect for the melee jobs that cover their ass and make sure they don't get killed
How does a mage get a cakewalk through drops?

The point of the OP is that mages get used for so much stuff, but they don't get much out of it. Unless all melee start paying people for optical hat runs, Assault Jerkins, or any other rare/ex melee gear, then mages ARE getting nothing out of helping, other then the satisfaction of helping others. That's what he's talking about in terms of being abused, melee get tons of cool stuff, mages get next to nothing.

Also, don't group all mages together with people who don't respect other jobs, because they are obviously in the minority. I'm a mage AND a melee(separately, of course), and I've never really seen this. I have to sit and wait for invites behind everyone save the DRG's(no offense to any DRG's), so don't think you speak for everyone when you cry that melee are always getting the shaft.

SMNs are mages, too. And, trust me, 2-3 hours is nothing, I've been on and lfg almost a whole day (like 8 hours), I've gone to take baths, watched entire movies, just ran around Jeuno, and when I did get invites, it was like 3 am and I had to go to sleep. Only other job I can think of that has that happening to them is DRG.

As a SMN, the only thing I've ever needed help with were my Genkai, AF, Fenrir and Carbuncle Mitts. And for the Mitts I had to wait a long ass time for me to actually do something in the party and not be considered a leech. None of them were easy to get.

I've never really needed much, but I help as much as I can, but I've never really gotten any requests to help with any of these things. I've never really wanted uber gear, to me skill is what matters. I'm always broke, and when I'm not I have to buy yet another expensive item.

Yes, I saw you seeking once when I was building a party. I didn't invite you because your sub was uncapped.

Oh, that was the same day I leveled, that night I jumped on WHM and got another level, then we got a train and I got furstrated with leveling it again... Meh, I'm quitting, anyways, lol. I'm sure that 2 MP is sooo useful.

Capping a subjob is one of the easiest ways to increase stats. If you won't spend a night capping your sub for 10 mp why would you spend a week saving up to get astral rings to increase mp? I make the assumption all the work possible people do to make their characters just a little bit stronger, you have done none of if you don't even cap your sub. This is undesirable when you're already a weak race/job combo. If this is wrong, if nothing else you should cap your sub so that people don't follow the same natural logic I did.

Fine. I don't like leveling WHM, period, and as I said I'm quitting, that is all I had in mind when I didn't level it. And race/job, it doesn't matter with SMN, really, I've always done really well with parties. Garlaige Citadel sucks.

First off, the major point i was trying to make was that
SE should have gone in and made more of the mage
equip Rare/Ex, as they have for melee. I have no doubt i
would get help and get to keep all items i wanted if they
were Rare/Ex, just as melees do. The problem is to few
really usefull items for a mage is Rare/ex.

And second of all, if more ppl got of their asses and lvled
a mage job mages wouldnt breeze through the game as
you say, since there would be competition. It would also
help the melees get through the game faster as partys
wouldnt have to spend hours in jeuno looking for a healer
and a refresher. But i guess its funnier to sit in jeuno and
complain about "those damn mages"

Hold on .. hard to type with the holes in my hand .. let me get down off the cross for cubs  take that sanctimonious bullshit elsewhere, i need it not. I'm not being persecuted or trying to be persecuted for anything, if you read most of the threads about how people's view of the economy/god fights/etc you'd know that logically if people gave a shit in a COMMUNITY type way things would be better all around ... OMFG nail me to the cross, i'm persectuing myself for the servers sins.... yea... right. I love how i can't make a valid point without being a martyr.

And last time i checked melees don't get weapons or armor of regular xp mobs unlike mages with most spells.. which all together may be a moot point since alot of the REALLY good ones don't drop off regular mobs; however by the same token how fast to mages lvl or progress with stuff compared to your non-rng melees (i'm sure some rng could have posted the same thing about EVERYONE in the game since they get about as many calls to do crap as mages..).

if you're going to gripe about how mages are needed to do a buncha stuff please reffer to a couple posts back of mine where i did fully state that the melee/mage interdependancy on doing things is a mutual ball-polishing serverwide and then went on to say in the post that it's stupid to call mages abused as opposed to any other class. Some people are greedy and stupid, that sucks, nothing can be done. Claiming that any class is more abused over another simply b/c you chose to associate with greedy and stupid people under the guise or outright generosity of "helping" with it lumps you in with the latter category.

i said it before i'll say it again .. i've helped a million mages either on purpose or indirectly by not getting shitty about a lot, i've been stepped on and used and it's not really that big a deal .. the game goes on, don't see melees or tanks posting about those weak ass frail mages who can't keep themselves alive and need to lot on EVERYTHING... think mayhaps we need to get some more crosses out since; while my opinion might not be popular or eloquent there's more than enough mages keeping me company in "persecutaion"

If you couldn't pick it out just yet, lemme put it real simple...

The title of the thread mis-represents the arguement that's about all i'm irked about .. i'm a mage on occasion but primarily i DD i can dig both sides of the arguement. It's simply a matter of association, help instances, and possible rewards that made the title what it is. I can dig personal opinions, i can dig personal experiences, however i can't dig being treated as some "poor me" poster simply for making a broad statement about the game as a whole .. no matter how you slice it if less people were greedy and more people were helpful half the threads of this nature wouldn't exist .. i'm sure that's beating a dead horse tho .. like .. long dead so w/e

I still fail to see the whole arguement. I have camped NM like WPD and Ose a lot. I've helped with Ohat runs, yet whenever I ask to get an Ohat I get laughed at. Why? Because white mages don't need those stats? Neither does any melee. You lived without it for 70 levels and you can survive another 5 more. Others have gone to level 75 without it and I am sure you can too. You have just as much a right to get the hat as I do and yet when I ask for help to do it people still think I do not. Again a huge part of this is there is no armor for mages that are ex that are worthwhile or require massive help to get. I will agree people are inately greedy but that still does not explain why the mentality of everyone is this job deserves it over another. I worked hard to get people their Ohat. I have to be attentive through all the battle spam to see someone get paralyzed and make sure its gone before the ninja has to cast Utsusemi again. I have to make sure the ninja is cured and hasted all throughout a 15+min fight.

...the mentality of everyone is this job deserves it over another.

That kind of reminds me of item drops in WoW. Reading thottbot.com you see tons of posts about how x item is for y class and how no one else is allowed to lot on it if and when it drops.

I'd reactivate my mnk53 and help you get an ohat any day Lavi! 8) Err.. well, if I had the money.. and a higher level

Yeah, this also doesn't always happen. I have several friends at the endgame in WoW, and they all say that there have been plenty of times when someone lotted on something they couldn't use.

Admittedly, I stopped playing WoW at 56 and didn't do many big instances.
