I'm reviving my dead XboX. Awhile back it's been getting the Error code 07, which means the system is not communicating with the HDD.

I've opened it up and checked if the ATA and the powersource are plugged in tight, and they are. So the HDD is locking up, and i'm going to toss it.

I don't want anything fancy from it, i just want it to work, so i got a 10 GB Fujitsu model: MPF3102AT. Which is compatable, according to a list of compatible HDDs.

Now i've been doing alot of reading as to how i can make a new HDD for XboX, and so far all of the information has to do with extracting data off of the old HDD and using it for the new HDD. Which isn't possible in my case since my old HDD is dead.

I need software, but so far i haven't found anything that will format my HDD and write the nessary files, and set up the HDD so it will be reconized be my old XboX.

If anyone has a solution as to how i can obtain whatever software and tutorial, please point me in that direction so i can check it out.

i hate to say it but in my old xbox modding days, you either need YOUR original HDD to work in order to make the new drive compatable, or a friends who has a mod chip, not a soft mod.

I was hoping you of all people would know a way of doing this, cause you're hardcore XboX tech. According to what i have read you're correct too.

I found a pretty good tutorial on how to build a HDD from scratch. However It involves extracting system files from a slayers CD. Which is only good if i have a mod chip.

Error code 07. I have a few options here. I can:

- Buy a new Mother board with an XboX HDD as a pair. Making it an ordinary XboX prone to failure with very few loop holes whenever it messes up again.

- Buy a mod chip and sodder it in my current motherboard, which would allow me to fix my XboX for alot cheaper. And turn it into a freak media center with 19 emulation programs including MAME and N64, and will process everything it's ready for internally or off of burned media.

Hm.

The HDD worked again for a few minutes then went back into error code 07. So there is a glimmer of hope there. I'm going to try to clone the HDD with Norton Ghost and if that works i'll be happy and even softmod it. If not, i'm going to turn the XboX into a grill.

yeah im not a hard mod fan, so ive never hard modded anything i own. Always a soft mod. And making a hard drive for the xbox with just a softmod was next to impossible, there were ways but the chance of it working in the low percentages.
i would try for hours to mod a bigger drive for my xbox, parts laying everywhere, computers open, and never get anywhere. it was a nightmare. i traded in my xbox for store credit at gamestop about two months ago, i just went and turned off the soft mod using the mech assault disc, deleted any game saves that pointed to a mod and i was set. they didnt know a thing.
ill miss the good ol xbox modding days and can only hope it comes in full effect to the 360

I'm curious when you say friend who has a Mod Chip. Are you talking about how i can use a non sodder Modchip, flash the bios and set up a new HDD with aftermarket system file CD's. Then remove the chip ? Or is there another process in which a modded XboX can some how asimilate a non modded XboX ?

Reason why i'm asking is because i got a guy that is able to get a hold of modded XboX's and i'd like to know if it would be possible if i can either borrow one, or have them set up my new HDD with a new BIOS for me.

The only hope for my XboX that i know of, is to hardmod it cause the original system files are lost forever.

you hook up the xbox's via ethernet and the modded xbox does all the work, then it FTPs the files needed to your xbox.

So even though i put a new HDD in the stock XboX, the chiped XboX will make the new HDD a Fatx (XBoX format) ? And if so it will do all this simply by powering up the 2 XBoX's ?

Does any mod chip do this or does it have to be a specific brand ?

Sorry to ask you more about this, i just can't find any info about this process.
