As a Sox fan I have majorly mixed emotions about this.... While it makes me giddy the way he quit on us and ran himself out of town last year, it really disappoints me because he was one guy I thought always just did it with pure talent. Also, it gives obnoxious (read: NOT NORMAL, NOT SANE) Yankees fans a way to say "HEY THOSE WORLD SERIES RINGS ARE TAINTED" even though every team in the league has had juicers, and big name juicers the past 20 years, unfortunately.

What it comes down to the most though... is the guy's a dick, and he's getting what he deserves. Oh, and Jason Bay is the Sox MVP right now... Manny Who?
 
Well... i will go over my experience meeting him IRL and you can tell me what you think on that subject.

Spring training this year i decided to go to the Black Angus near my house and Manny Ramirez walks in about the same time i do. Seeing as im not really an autograph person i actually left him alone but i overheard what he did to his waitress.

After he was done eating the waitress comes to the table and asks if she can get an autograph and a picture of him. He pretends that he doesnt understand what she is saying and continues talking to the friend he was with in Spanish. Seeing as i live in phoenix the waitress comes back 5 min later with another waitress who is fluent in Spanish. Before the one who spoke Spanish even opened her mouth Manny says... I fucking know she wants her picture taken and an autograph but tell her if she wants it to go buy it online cause they are all over on there. (still in Spanish)

I understand that he may not have wanted to give an autograph or get his picture taken but pretending to not speak English and then answering the English waitress's question before it is asked is Spanish was an assholish thing to do.
 
My favorite sports writer, Bill Simmons, put's it perfectly... It's almost exactly how I feel, except I don't have quite the regrets that he does, and I have almost no doubts about Pedro. Unfortunately, the way baseball was for that 20 year span, the "almost" has to be included... I highly recommend reading his column:

Yea... being a Boston fan probably gonna get rough after the cam incident with the patriots and now the steroid confirmation following a while of speculation.

We never needed proof to know Many used something.. Its an absolute lock that Poppy did also..

The two sox world series are tainted but fuck so are the 4 yankees... We probably just need to deal with all world series from 90' on are tainted.

We have no official proof of most of this but by now man its just guilty by association. I am tired of this shit. I will take a bunch of skinny asses over these hulks we watch now anyday of the week. But i am a baseball fan.. My opinion wouldnt matter eh?

EDIT: Wanted to add my Yankee fan view.. I will not use this to attack any Boston fan.. But i sure as hell will use it to defend myself when i get these annoying pricks here in CT telling me my team is the Steroid Franchise.

A lot of celebrities get pissed off cause they give autographs and then those autographs wind up on ebay. His comment was probably a reference to that.

As for steroids... well, not surprising in the least.
 
No i understand being like, "no i dont do autographs," but at the same time he can speak English there was no reason for him to pretend to not understand when he clearly did.
 
I've said it once, and I'm sure I'll say it again: Baseball is a sham.

I hate A-Rod as much as the next Sox fan, but even I felt he was treated a little unfair over the last couple months after he was on that list of positive tests. What about the 104 other players on that list? I wanna know all their names. What a fucking joke this sport has become. It's seriously sickening. Now we'll hear about Manny for the next two months he isn't playing, and soon after some other joke player will get busted.

And anyone who uses the "I didn't know I was taking a banned substance" argument, knows he was taking a banned substance. Either that, or he should be able to turn around and sue his doctor for 50 games prorated out of a 25 million dollar contract. You'd think at that level, they might double check to make sure the shit your trainer is injecting into your ass isn't gonna get you the b& hammer.
 
I'm not shocked. This is the era we live in. I'm waiting for dirt on Chipper Jones and Tommy Maddox..bring it. It won't bother me a damn bit, because nothing is surprising anymore. Baseball is DEAD to me!
 
All I can say is that this really helped out my Fantasy Baseball team. My match-up for this week was playing Manny and now he's suspended and gets no points! LOL

I hate the word "tainted"... It's terrible. Realistically it's just the way the game has been the last 20 years. Keep in mind, pitchers were juicing too, and it helps them just as much as it helps hitters. The era just sucks, heh. Luckily it looks like we're finally leaving it behind us, with Stolen Bases, bunts, 1st-to-3rd plays, etc. are all coming back, and the home run is becoming less important.

The Simmons article is just depressing.. the point he makes is that due to the way baseball has been for 20 years, you look at guys like Bill Mueller, who had 1 year of 20+ HRs and then got hurt the year after... This is completely possible without steroids, but now we say "Hey, he fits the mold! He probably juiced!" even though Billy Mueller is a real class act guy. It's a real shame...

/Sigh. If I didn't love this game so much I'd quit it lol.
 
I dont like the word either Shyrra but it is what it is. The era is tainted. Sure there should be more power numbers regardless today due to new supplements and what not that are perfectly legal. The fact is we dont know exactly who did what and when they did it as they all protect each other. Every one involved in the MLB and receive a check from the MLB are guilty by association.

I should have rephrased that. Calling a team or title "Tainted" is what really bugs me, because the era as a whole is "tainted," you're right about that.

You probably wont ever get what you want from Chipper. A man hurt as much as him is probably as all-natural as they come. That guy just can't get well enough to give us Braves fans even one last boost.

He has had alot of rib injuries though.. Similar to Mike Piazza where the muscle is being removed from the rib. Its an injury that brands you steroid user from the fan who is hard on steroids.

I love the Braves. I'm a huge Chipper, Maddox, Glavine fan. I'd hate to hear the news. I just meant I wouldn't shocked at all.
 
Not a Braves fan, but I'm a big Chipper fan... unfortunately he exhibits a lot of the symptoms of a steroid user. (The fact that I think of things like that is the worst part of it all....) The two big ones are the frequency of his injuries, and the huge f'ing head he has, lol.

This is exactly the larger problem and its what that article you posted earlier in the thread touched on. I have no choice but to think they all did it. And i must compare them to other users and other users injuries. Oh well.
