Okay, I was seeking party in the dunes today as Tyrion (WAR11), and finally get an invite.

I was only 250 from TNL, and such was in my search comment.

Anyhow, as soon as I join, I didnt a PT member list, and everybody was anon. I asked why and they're like "We're getting PL'ed" which made no sense to me regarding the anon but whatever.

I get to the camp after treking from next to the Konschtat zone to near the La Theine zone (this is important later.)

We start killing stuff and I soon hit 12. When I do, the PT leader (Tatooine) says "Okay, Tyrion, there is a 1k PL fee you have to pay if you want this experience! Is that understood?"

I replied, "Perfectly," and then hit Disband. I wanted a normal PT to begin with, and only stayed because it was 7am in the dunes for an <English> WAR with no subjob. It's not like I had a [ren's voice]plethora[/ren's voice] of invites. I assumed, since nobody had made a single mention of payment on my 5-minute trek up or when I got the invite, that the WHM - Maraziah - was PLing a friend, which is the only sort of PLing that I somewhat approve of.

I thought we were done - they offered a service for a fee, I didn't want to pay the fee so I left.

However I get a tell from Maraziah saying that "thats bs!" I explained my position to her, and she told me "was only trying to make a living." I reccomended gardening or NM camping. She also told me that she never asks for money for raises. I told her that's very nice of her.

Then the leader apologized to me in a seperate tell saying he shouldve told me about the PL fee from the start, and not to be mad at her. I told him I wasn't mad, jand asked him to explain what was going on.

Then he sends me a /tell saying "quit bothering her with tells please."

I replied "Uhmm, she started talking to ME!"

Anyhow, Maraziah kept complaining and finally I told her:

PL'ing is like beer or sex: If you're offering, fine, but I'm not going to pay for it.

She didn't appreciate that at all. She told me "Consider yourself /blisted by many many players."

It's not like I accpepted any PLing after I knew that payment was expected, or that I'd told her I'd pay her and then didn't. As soon as I found out she wanted money, I didn't use her services anymore.

Imagine somebody came up and washed your car out of the blue, and then started angrily demanding payment. I know my response to such a request would begin and end with "Fuck you."

hahaha. some people are real nut jobs... either that or there's far too many children playing FFXI..

i don't know if people realize it or not but there really isn't "powerleveling" in the game... sure you can have an outside healer but nothing can beat the exp earned by a well formed group that works together. PTs with outside healers or "powerlevelers" are usually sloppy and get shit exp anyway

i love it when someone tells you that they are blacklisting you... these insecure morons aren't blacklisting anyone because in reality they want to hear whatever it is you have to say.. they would be doing the ffxi community a great service if they actually did blacklist folks because like the feebs in a mental institution they need to be kept away from others

Heheheehehehe  Rock on, man!

I have never been charged when I was in a party getting PL'ed - though, I guess that (being party PL'ed) has only happened a few times to me. Being in a PL party isn't as much fun when you are a MAGE...gives you less to do...so I end up saying random smart ass things to the party which usually ends up in me getting the boot...unless I decide to tell them that I am a "girl" then I get to stay. heheeheheheh - people are so retarded sometimes

/rant off

Anyway - you handled it like a pro - I would have used way more swears ;)

I don't blame you. Oh and I need 1 K from that time I went too help you in Qufim that one time. LOL J/K. Believe it or not WHM can farm. I do it tons of times. Takes some time but I use the Dark Staff too attack multiple enemies and when I want too kill one fast solo I use "Holy" + my club's weapon skill. Just throw up stoneskin and you are all set. Just know what you can take down and what you can't. Just throw up stoneskin and cast haste on yourself and you are all set.

That post kinda sounded lame  Phone rung while I was writing it. Forgot I already mentioned stoneskin in one sentence lol.

Words of wisdom...

I've only been in one party that was being "powerleveled" and I'll never be in another. It was horrible. The leader kept trying to go after creatures that were to tough for us so each fight took forever. It was just *wiff* *wiff* *wiff* low damage hit *wiff*. Atleast for the short time I was there I was able to cap my weapon skills. I'd feel bad for any tank that gets powerleveled too much. His shield, parry, ect will be horrible whenever he has to play in a real party. Maybe it would have worked out better had we stuck with creatures withing our range.

Speaking of PLing...

I'm currently trying to powerlevel one of my best friends in real life, known as Jobe ingame, to at least level 25 WAR. He's the DRK in my static, and he wanted to try another subjob, and we're all for it. He has DRK at 52 now, and he's gotten WHM to 20, BLM to 31, and SMN to 30 (I believe, could be higher). With that said, he's a very experienced player.

Am I wrong for PLing any groups he happens to be in? I can't do it all the time, but it sure is more constructive towards the whole of our game experience than farming in about 30k an hour (on a good day) or crafting all day. He tanks with his WAR, and he holds the hate plenty-well off me. They end up being able to pull 7-8 mobs without me needing extended rest.

The secret to being PLvled is this:

Fight what mobs you would NORMALLY fight, and you'll be able to chain them faster, resulting in a MUCH higher exp/hr rate, making leveling up quicker, etc.

Plus, if I group knows it is going to be Pleveled, such as Jobe starting his own party, he doesn't pick up a WHM, ever. That's just wasting the WHM's time and a party slot... build for damage. Healing is covered completely in the Pleveler, and could maybe be helped by a PLD or RDM helping heal, of course. It's not like a WHM can't find a party, anyway.

Jobe is the only one getting hit, with me getting hit occasionally, with the exception of some idiot 'voke pulling in an area that isn't busy, then they let loose a WS at the start of the fight. Therefore, his parry/evasion/tanking skills do not suffer a bit. I do not charge people in his party for the powerlevel. To do so would just be ridiculous, in my opinion.

Hmmmm. I know that my experience with PL'ing is very minimal but in my case the mob was only attacking the wtm but the mob couldn't hit him. So the tank was suffering in all the skill gain part except for WS.

I know currently I'm planning on getting my Bst unlocked and starting it but I want to sub Wtm with him and I really don't want to party play a Wtm. Overall I hate playing mage classes and really dread lvl'ing him up to 37. I have time to convince myself to lvl Wtm though since I have to do some hardcore farming in 3 more lvls. Stupid O. Kote. ><

Lol thats pretty funny, only in the dunes could something like that ever take place.

Actually Id tend to disagree with you on just one job. Bard! ^^. Ive plvl'd many pt's, and its always a PT of 5 never 6. Bard join, madrigal + minuet, ballads, disband, they go fight. Now that more than makes up for the one slot they are missing. I rarely heal them in battle so they keep all the hate. In qufim pt's get 4-5k an hour, and solo about 3-3.5k an hour. I dont do it much cause its tedious boring work, but there is definetely a power lvl solution.. the question is can the bard stay awake that long? lol

Oh ya 1k gil plzzz kthx

Try getting into a static to level it. I'm leveling my whm in a static and it's soooooo much easier. I KNOW that the PLD is gonna keep it off me and how the pullers work and who to cast regen on and etc....It makes the experience much more pleasant.

Most people who get a powerleveler, don't understand how to use it. I've done it on occasion (only when really bored, for LS friends who were getting up a sub or new job that wanted to save some time) and when you're "powerleveling" a party, what you really should be doing is "levelling assistance". Most of the curing I do from outside the party is topping off players after the fight, so the mages can rest more, thus giving them longer xp chains. During a fight, I'm mostly there to handle any adds or links that they may accidentally get. Basically, when I'm there, I cut out any of the irritating BS that keeps a party from running optimally. I don't help them take on anything they couldn't handle without my being there, because that's not the best way to get xp.

Conversely, I've been in parties where we were being PL'ed. Most recently as WHM in Qufim. Now, since my WHM magic skills were all capped (except Divine, heh) it didn't hurt me in any way. I just became a crappy 2nd BLM for the group. I'd toss off Regens on people, throw Banish every opportunity I had, and cast Stone or Aero when I could. We still kept fighting the Pugils we were taking before, we were just taking them down faster. That was a very nice party- we were doing great without the PL, but when he did come along (with the new BLM we invited) we were just rocking the joint.

But overall, most of the PL's I've seen don't follow this pattern. They think that you can powerlevel a group the same way you do a soloing melee pre-15, which just isn't the case. It's those PLs that hurt, rather than help.

That's pretty much the kind of party I was in as BLM last night. We had assistance from a 40 something RDM. We were taking on the exact same mobs we would've been without her...only difference is we were hitting chain 5's consistently. My husband recently started playing again and had asked me about pl him...thinking he could take on mobs that normally would slaughter his party. I explained to him why it wouldn't work...in that the amount of damage they could do to the mob would be so low that it would take forever and tons of mana to manage it. Much better to chain regular VT & IT mobs continuously

[sarcasm]If you want REAL excitement, try PL'ing a solo mage (especially WHM) that is hours of continueous fun![/sarcasm]

Now here is a question. I've had people ask me to powerlevel them as a melle. How on earth would I do that? Are they just asking me to handle links and aggro or are they asking me to fight something until it's almost dead and zone? It never made sense to me how I could PL someone.

Melee can't powelevel, infact really the only melee who has the abilty to PL is a Pld, because, atleast they can cure, and if they get too much hate.. oh well, they can certainly take the hits with ease.

I find it completely boggling how I manage to get /tells from people asking me to powerlevel them as a Dark Knight. A Dark Knight! I mean really, even if i wanted to PL someone how the heck is that suppose to work?

congrats tyrion you made a thread topic that will probily be around another 2-3 months.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaa booooooooooooooooooooooooooyyyyyyyyyyy

Really? I heard your puller sucks! Gets links, pulls mobs that only give 150xp, zones links, usually first to die. What an ass!

Anyway, back to the original post. 1K!! Damn go sit your happy Whm ass in jeuno and tele-taxi, or do what I do. When Im runnin around a town doing quests or crafting, Ill switch to Whm and tele anyone who shouts. Even on a slow tele day, Ill still make more than PL'n a group in dunes.
