For anyone who didn't know, the FFXI marriage service became available to NA players on June 4[sup]th[/sup]. There's info on it in the compendium, which can be accessed from the main FFXI screen in the POL Viewer.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone is planning on getting married. I know I am! ^^ Just gotta farm the gil needed. I'll probably farm half and let my fiancé farm the other half. Since I want to have a big wedding, that means I'll have to get 65k myself. The wedding dress set is 50k, and the biggest ceremonies cost 80k, though the smaller ones cost as little as 20k.
 
I never understood why people want to get married in game, especially so if they are married to someone else irl, and in the light of that the hot female hume you are about to wed may just as well be a hairy overweight truckdriver named Earl.
 
I plan on getting married to my husband when I have the gil as well- the dress is nice, but I'm really looking at the rings personally. It'll be really cool to have the ring w/ my husband's characters' name on it, so people know we're a pair.

I'll probably wait at least a month or more before applying though- I've heard they had so many requests for weddings when they first started them that they're only taking some applications on a lottery basis. So I'll wait til the fervor starts to die down. :)
 
Nah, they're just ordinary rings, no special stats. You have two options from what I understand, either they can be "engraved" with your partner's name, or both your initials. The rings can be equipped and unequipped at will, and they're RARE/EX. So I wouldn't wear them while XPing, but just around town mostly.
 
To Sculli, I can't speak for everyone else, but I want to get married a.) because the wedding dress is so pretty, and b.) because I'm a hopeless romantic and I'm doing it solely for RPing value; it's not like I'm in love with the person IRL.

To Daclade: No, you only have to be level 20. The Opaline set is lvl 40, but there's also a Wedding set (Wedding Dress, Wedding Hose, etc...) that's level 20 and adds a bit of defense against light-elemental damage in addition to the crappy DEF. :P

Personally, I can't wait. I'm gonna start farming gil for it soon. ^^

but.. i want to shoot for the stars.. not only is the wedding set at 20 and the opaline dress at 40... there is also a ceremonial dress at 40 that adds chr onto the crappy def :P too bad its 280k a piece :shock:
 
does anyone have any pics of chars in these dresses or outfits, the various items and stuff.....ive yet to see anyone in them or a ceremony itself.
 
Someone give me 80k and I will pronounce whomever man and wife, gay marriages included, though I don't think they make wedding dresses for guys.

Whys everyone so crazy about those...thats a poopy wedding dress....wheres the veil!? wheres the long flowy train!? well, the gloves are kinda nice, but no black, blegh. Wheres the amn fancy embroidery work!!? *spits* boooo

Hehe, yup. We sure do look good in those thigh-highs. ^_~

But I digress. I just wanted to announce that I'm engaged in-game to Otiluke, who is in ColdFront like me and Malakai. We don't know when or where the wedding will be yet, as we're waiting for the initial flood of requests for ceremonies to die down while we farm the 130k needed for my wedding dress and the large ceremony we want.
