My friend and I rented it the other day to compare it to the PS2 version. The graphics are noticeably better since it's less compressed and the game play is more fluid.
Rather than have to hit X and O(PS2) in a certain order to do either a knock-up(XXO), trip(XOX) or stun attack(XOO), you can just flick the wiimote up(knock-up), down(stun) or thrust it forward(trip). Moving the wiimote left and right is just normal melee attacks, or you can press A for light attacks and hold A for charged attacks if you're lazy. This makes building momentum a complete breeze, since you can just move the wiimote around doing the different moves and building up tons of momentum.
The powers are activated by holding B and using the same motions. If you're too big a pussy to shake your controller, you can sort through your powers and activate your current power with B+A; similar to how twilight princess' items work, you "equip" a power from this wheel and then B+A will use that current power. The Thrust powers can be a little difficult to get off at times, I'd usually tilt the wiimote up a bit and use the wrong power, but my friend had no problems.
The only issue I had with the game is the camera is controlled by tilting the nunchuk left and right, and apparently I like to hold my hand at an angle sometimes.
