Ok, something is wrong here. I just spent an hour in a party with a bot for a whm. Yes you heard me, a BOT. On my 43 ninja, (the bot was 42.) in the "secret room" in crawlers nest. This bot responded on command to 'protectra please' 'cure please' 'poisona please' It was named Iwpxlwl or some random letters. Apparently I discover this bot invites our rdm (real good guy) leaders him, and never says a word. He builds the party with me in it, we are going pretty good til the bot malfunctions. For some reason protect please didnt register with it. Now *I* was fairly certain it was a bot from really early in the party. It had no macro phrases, it never spoke, it never did anything.. human. I pt with loads of non-english speakers and never has one been so devoid of life. But apparently some of the othere members, first job in the 40s maybe, hadnt recognized the bot-signs. I figured how the hell had it gotten to CN in the first place? There had to be some human intervention. Well anyways i mention that its likely a bot when it wont cast tect on us because we didnt keyword it. Immediately the leader goes postal, calls a gm and then says the word GM in pt chat. I told him he faacked up there because any bot worth its salt would have THAT as a buzzword. Of course the bot stands up and starts mentioning 2-3 words of busted english a few minutes later.

We escape out and start warp2'ing home and the bot goes 'bye' and disbands >< haha it was so retarded. I refused to pull damselflies due to bot-suspiciouns (sure it can handle a pld and a nin dual tanking a VT crawler, but the massive aoe's off a curse sphere? hahahahah no.) and i kinda feel upset that no one else in the pt gave a second thought to the obvious bot. It wasnt that they didnt care, it was that they didnt notice O_o.

Ayways just thought i would give everyone here the heads up, if you dont want to pt with bots, dont pt with Iwpxlxl (i know it starts with Iwp and had x's in it) or her many clones as i am sure there are many. The EXP bot is ready and raring to go it seems and all in all it didnt work bad for a bot. I was impressed with it. Also downright scared. I really think the RDM was casting all debuffs (cepts slow and blind which i did) and every other spell, while all the bot did was cure and protect. So it was a crappy WHM. But how the hell do you bot a lvl 42 freaking char o_o. im scared guys. Hold me.

That is pretty fucked up.. I never partied(well I don't think I have at least) with a bot but I will keep my eyes open for this dude. Actually I might invite him out of curiousity lol. /em holds Mistaya

Never chalk up to "conspiracy" that which can more easily be explained by "incompetence".

So you managed to party with someone who's intelligence level wasn't high enough to pass the "Turing Test". What else is new?

Did you use the auto-translator when asking for spells?

I saw this "bot" person in CN last night, heck I dunno, that might have even been your party I was infront of, but I dont remember seeing you. I have also seen quite a few others with these messed up names. I dont rememeber their names exactly because they were just a bunch of letters mixed up, like: askjdf and ignkjn as well as qqwtdg.

Now those AREN'T the correct names of those players but that is pretty much what you can expect to see. Whether or not they are bots or players I have yet to notice but when i did see them they were all partied together in Ordell's Caves, atfirst there was just two or three, when I came back past them later on there were five of them.. five of them.

They're either a bunch of friends that dont give a damn about names or someones bots. *shrug*

Well it wasnt a bot the entire time from what i could tell. It seemed that a person had taken it to the camp and then turned on autopilot. If a person WAS behind it they didnt speak english or japanese, (as pt members approached it in both languages.) Also, didnt respond to auto-trans, but responded to the english word.

I don't know that I would assume it was a bot... this would be the first time I've heard of this kind of bot, anyway.
What's more likely, with a name like that, is that it was a gilfarmer. I've meet more than my fair share, I assure you of that, and it's been my experience that they don't speak much or any english at all. Gilfarmers will typically join exp parties because, simply, higher lvl = more gil. Having solo'd most of their in-game experience, they wouldn't be used to a party dynamic.
A member of my LS had a pretty in depth conversation with a gil farmer when camping an nm once.Turned out he was Chinese (he did speak some english, obviously). He said his 'boss' required him to earn so much a day, and that he got to keep part of it for himself.

That's my guess anyway, I've been known to be wrong ^^

Wha? Who was this?

Also, if it was a bot, how would you script the macro? With what you're describing, that would be an insane piece of work. Are there commands that respond to certain words?
Or is it that I just don't understand how bots work?

A bot is used is just a third party application used to do any number of in-game functions (fish, NM camp, party, even lvl fame). Some bots are simple in that they only have programming for commands, such as a few fishings bots simply give the command to /fish, wait 15, confirm key, wait 25, /fish, and repeat. Other bots are much more complex. The one mentioned by mistaya would have been a complex bot with pixel mapping and color recognition. It would respond to the pixel size of protect and such and would cure when needed and would have an Auto-Call pixel recognition feature which would send himself a <call> or some sort of alarm that would alert the actual human being if the words "GM" or "Game Master" were used. NM bots use a pixel mapping feature where a screenshot of the NM in yellow mode is mapped and copied so that the program will be able to recognize it and voke/dia/flash/stun/jump accordingly as soon as it appears. Hope it cleared up the bot thing for you.

How is it scripted, though? What application is used to implement all of these functions? That's what I don't understand.

An application used popularly would be ACTool. These are not pre-programmed bots usually. The person must input the programming in formation and the script in themselves.

seems that just monitoring the packets would be easier...

I would also like to add this:

BOTTERS ARE LAME FUCKING PUNKS!

Oh, and:

GIL SELLERS ARE LAME FUCKING PUNKS TOO!

when fishing bot messed their marco up...

You think that's messed up? /sea all fox... All dragoons... All camping NM...

Call a GM and report this, becuase it needs to be stopped, im not going to pay 21 bucks to play another goddamn diablo2 people...

Ha! that person forgot to place theyre keyboard in the compact mode, N is a button command in compact mode for some ppl and most bots will call on that command, not putting it into compact mode makes the N's appear in chat.
