Medical Malpractice for dummies

WHAT NINE HUNDRED>?!?

The funeral was today. I was talking to a lot of his old army buddies and they all want to file a negligence suit with some veterans organization backing them.

I guess that's fine, I can't really put my foot down on something like that but I'll support it anyway.

Basically all of the men in the family (me, my step-dad, and my uncle) all are supporting doing a suit, but the women are against it.

I think we're going to back up the army guys.

In other news, I tripped over some guy's grave walking away from the burial site and face planted right in a fresh grave.

I got up, and a soldier saluted me.

I feel you same thing happened to a familiar of mine.

I would say you should sue or at least file a report against them. By not doing that you are letting those irresponsible people out in the streets treating more people like they treated your grandfather; more lives being lost or more headaches for families thinking they let their ill familiars on the hands of "responsible" people that can "take care" of those ill.

Doctor's are just stupid. I know of two instances of doctor stupidity.
My mom nearly died from a surgery gone wrong back in 2001. Saddest part.. the doctor who performed the surgery is a well known distinguished doctor AND had even wrote a book on the operation he did to my mom. How he still messed up is beyond me. Tried to sue, but mom got a crappy lawyer and settled out of court.

This month my mom had been hospitalized due to a blood clot (we're thinking a cause from above mentioned surgery above) in her left leg. She get's hospitialized and they due a bunch of tests and crap. During one of the tests, they find her white blood cell to be double the usual. One of there main concerns is she may have cancer.. So she's released and the discharge nurse is suppose to have made an arrangement to get a bone merrow done. Well.. a week passes by and no call about a schedule confirmation is made. So my mother has to call them and finally gets an appointment.. they even cancelled someone so she could be moved in. So we get there, my mother gets called in and I'm waiting in the waiting room for a good few hours. She finally comes out and..... they never did anything. She was in the back the whole time arguing with the doctor, 'cause they THOUGHT this was suppose to be a check up after the bone merrow surgery. Which is just stupid and shows they aren't communicating very efficently, but now my mom's white blood cell is normal and now.. they aren't concerned... 'cause you know.. cancer can't just reside for awhile and come back in a few days/months/years.

So yea doctor's are just stupid. At least one's here in San Antonio.

I have a story of malpractice. I had a doctors appointment on Aug 15th, I did a phlem sample and all that normal jazz. On Aug 19th they got the results back and it turns out I had some form of Echoli(sp?) in my lungs. Now, if I was normal I'm sure that wouldn't be that big of a deal but since I have Cystic Fibrosis it is a massive fucking deal. They didn't try to contact me at all to get me into hospital and because of that I just had the worst two weeks of my life.

I go to visit my uncle who just passed his LPN in Kelowna, BC. I had a sore throat the night before and didn't think much of it cause I always have a sore throat. So we get on the plane and I guess all that pressure and germs and w/e made the echoli flare up. In less then 20 mins I was coughing horribly, throwing up, I had fever with chills and I felt like death. I had summed it up to airsickness and my mom throught it was strep. So after a very shitty plane ride we land and drive to the house.

After 2 days of gasping for air, not eating, coughing to the point where I throw up, heart rate of 150, O2 droping to like 84% and pretty much what I think of as hell we go to the hospital. Right away they see I'm fucking sick and get me a bed. I didn't wait at all. So they take blood, phlem, all that crap. After a few hours(I think, I was really out of it) they hook me up to IV and get me a room. I get put on some hardcore meds. A day later(I think, again, the first week there I was really fucked up) they tell me I had Echoli in my lungs and it was treatable. Just need to do a few days of IV meds and then go home on oral. Sounded great.

But during my "recovery" I ended up getting yeast in my lungs and throat(I don't know how it works so don't ask. I don't think it's like the other kind of yeast infection). So they put me on some oral meds to deal with that....

After that was settled I ended up getting a 3rd infection. I got a sudamounis(Fuck off, these words are big and hard to spell) in my lungs. So that turned my 5 days hospital visit into a fucking 3 week stay.

Anyways, a few days later my mom got my medical records faxed up and we found out that they knew about the echoli in my lungs prior to me leaving. We're both FURIOUS cause I honestly felt like I was dying and it could have been prevented while I was still healthy if they actually fucking tried to get ahold of me.

So after 10 days of being there we needed to come home. My moms job was suffering and I was bored out of my skull. So we take a plane home and the doctors here should have been expecting me. I ended up having to wait in emerg for 2 hours with a PICC and meds due before i even got a bed.

Today my nurse comes up and told me she knew about the echoli on the 12th(3 days before the sample was taken) and that she called me once to tell me but I didn't answer my phone.

Now my mom and I are pissed off and going to sue. She doesn't care about the money(I don't to an extent but hey, I like money) and just wants the doctors to take my health seriously. This is twice that they've put my lungs in such danger.(Before was my old asshole doctor who did jackall for my health.)

Sorry for making this post so long. I'm just extremely pissed off that they could care so little about my health. I've had the worst two weeks of my life cause of them.

I'm sorry to hear about their negligence. :( I hope that you and your mom suing them makes them pay more attention. They should especially pay attention to your status due to your CF. I am glad to hear from you though.

It's disgusting when people who are in medicine have a total disregard for other peoples lives.

I got a prescription for my kidneys and after throwing up blood and spending 6 hours in the hospital, it turns out there was Eurethromyacin in the prescription which is something that my doctor knew I was allergic to.

Some people just don't care.

I'm sorry about your grandfather Drew :(

Im sorry the you got up and a soldier saluted you kinda made me giggle...

But man, KICK THE WOMAN IN THE FAMILY IN THE TEETH, the hospital is responsible from what you tell us, so in other words FILE A LAW SUIT AND SUE THE SHIT OUT OF THEM

I'm very sorry to hear this Tymon, losing a loved one is always a tragic event. This happened to my aunt about 10 yrs ago. My cousin had kidney problems and would have to go to dialysis every other day or so. Her doctor decided to implant a catheter (is that how its spelled?) that would make doing her dialysis A LOT easier he said. Well the day of the operation comes along. The operation goes smoothly (or so we thought) but then we get the news later that night that apparently, the doctor made one too many incisions and forgot to close one up, which lead to my cousin's blood going to her brain and turning her into a vegetable. To make things worse, they didnt notice the internal bleeding until it was too late; my cousin (RIP) bleed to death internally and was dead a few hours later.

Needless to say my aunt and her family sued and got some decent money out of it, but no amount of money will replace a lost life.
