It's not about beer.
It's not about having a 3 day weekend.
It's not about a cook-out.
It's not about a day on the lake/at the pool.
Memorial Day represents a moment of observance for the men and women who's voluntary obligation it is to protect the values and ideals of america at home and abroad. You may not like their what the job requires, you may not like their boss, you may not always agree with them. That doesn't matter. It's not just about right now.
Today i salute the thousands if not millions of American men and woman who served in our armed forces at all points in history for putting themselves on the line for you and me. Like them, i worked today, so you'll pardon if i'm late to the party. To the men and women who never made it home, didn't make it back in one piece, or left themselves on the battlefield never to come back as the people they once were; I appreciate and hold you in the highest respects and i always will.
For what it's worth.
I'm sorry if this comes out sappy or any other connotation is attributed to it aside from my utmost respect. I see alot of people who just treat this day as a 3-day weekend for beer, cookouts, the lake, the indy 500, etc. And to be honest it makes me somewhat angry. You can bet your ass my kid'sll know exactly what this day is about and what should be foremost in their minds on this day every year.
The armed forces are america's family. You don't have to agree with them, you don't have to enjoy the aspects of what they do, you don't always have to cheer them on, you don't neccessarily even have to like them. You should love, respect, and support them in any way you can for all that they do for us just as you would your own flesh and blood.
Sincerely,
Matthew, TN
