Merit Question for the BLMs.

Well we agree there atleast. 95% of my spells used is Thunder and
Ice. I see no point in meriting the other spells.

we semi agree that elemental and thunder are the most important to lvl first. as for which is first up for debate ;) I think thats just mostly personal preference to play style and what your mostly fighting.

it really wont matter that much for me though. when i decided to merrit ill be able to fulley merrit those two in a month or 2. Fame, items, and lvling subs takes a lot of my merriting time away that ill be able to do once i get get to that point.

I actually wanted to ask a question similar to this. I wanted to know if putting more merits into one element gives deminishing(sp) returns. Does anyone know if anyone did any kind of testing in this to see if its actually worth totally pimping out Thunder, or if the last merit will only bump up your Thunder 4 damage by only 10 damage or something.

If all you do is end-game, this would probably work. If you ever plan on using your blm for level capped missions and whatnot, fire merit comes in handy as well. Hell, fire comes in handy for totentanz enm too ;P

My merit scheme, which I thought would be best, would be:

Elemental Magic > One or Two merits to Enfeebling and Dark (Will probably revise this statement though) > Thunder potency > 1 point on all the rest of the potencys > Enmity > MP > INT.

Bare in mind that I dont really care about merits for other jobs since BLM has always been my first choice, and the Enmity and MP will just about be the bare minimum for other magic jobs.

Merit Stone guys. I swear, watch, Quake II and Stone V/gaIV will be the next Thundaga.

Skaw, normally i have a load of respect for everything you say and as a great monk idol to my mule... please, never say that again. ever. not even as a joke... please. that statement leads me to believe that everything you've ever said is wrong and i should eat sushi at 75 fighting VT mobs. stone is fundamentally gimped cause there are like 10 mobs in the damn game weak against it and 90% of the mobs in the game are earth based.

Oh, laugh now.. But watch the ToAU HNMs be incredibly weak to it. :p
*goes off to the ah, eyes brimming with tears as his kniwledge of endgame monk foods slips away and he begins to stock up on sushi....*

Poor man, the thought of using a new spell was too much, his overly large taru mind snapped.

What I did was basically a mix of Thunder and Elemental Magic, capped both at the same time. Did MP merits next, after that the update that allowed you to use more merits had came out so I finished the Elemental Magic merits again and maxed Ice Potency right away. Then did all my INT Merits and 3 into -Enmity.

And for the topic poster who wondered if Ice would outdamage Thunder, on neutral days, even with +5 INT from your staff Thunder IV will still outdamage Blizz IV but just barely. Though I will admit I do like to use Bliz IV a bit more just for the +10 elemental magic.

And I honestly I could see Stone V being the new element and I'll be pissed off lol.

I got 2 merits into Thunder Poetency, and i must say they really worth the time. My thundaga3 non MB in sky was going for around 1.6k.
