i know there's already a music thread going but i'm just curious as to how many people listen to heavy music? ex: agoraphobic nosebleed, dillinger escape plan, burnt by the sun...
I'm really interested in knowing if anybody owns the altered states of america cd by agoraphobic nosebleed. it's not for the weak. if you are easily offended, this cd will make you break down and cry. 99 tracks over 19 minutes and 35 seconds on a 3" disk with the most disturbing lyrics i've ever heard. it's insane but very good
just a little curious...

Man, I hate that shit. It sounds like cats being tortured.

if anyone is looking for truly great metal, you need look no further than the years between 1986 - 1995. while occasionally on digital cables metal channel ill hear something truly inspired, that era holds the greats and defines the genre. bands like death angel, testament, voivod, slayer, sanctuary, kreator(jeez i could list them all night) truly took the musical art of metal to its peak. gone now are the use of whammy bars and intense double bass with sociological lyrics sung by some of the worlds loudest voices, only to be replaced by rap-beats , uninspired lyrics and white guys rhythmically speaking. gone also are the true axe-grinders (bad ass guitar players) like yngwie malmsteen, alex skolnik (testament-the guy was a virtuoso @ age 19!) and the galeon brothers (death angel- track this stuff down , they were truly ahead of their time. they were all brothers and cousins of philipino decent and all under age 20! they mixed funk and power metal seamlessly in an era that couldnt handle it. album of note : death angel act 3)

what a lot of people dont know or are to young to remember, is that anthrax basically invited rap-metal, their song "im the man" with public enemy was an unheard of crossover for its time, and without that song,
there would be no (flame me if you want) untalented fred durst with his
really lame rap metal. if you want to hear a true metal - rap fusion, track
down mordred's "in this life". a 5 man funk metal band with a dj, some of the best music ever recorded.

sorry for the long post ^^ however, to those that truly love good music,
you owe it to yourself to hear the best metal ever had to offer.

i like rock, most types of rock, i just cant stand the ones where they just yell for a straight 5 minutes...

Ramstein is good, i like him, i think he classifies as heavy rock, and whats cool is i take german, so i know most of the stuff he is saying

Wow you're pretty biased, and rather inaccurate at times. Can't good tunes just be good tunes?

Rammstein is five or six guys.

biased? maybe :) but i do find the best in all types of music.
it just so happens that the most simple examples tend to be the most popular, and the people with amazing talent often go unnoticed in a world
of constant, spoon fed media. i often wonder if people actually like some of the crap out there, or are they sub-consciously afraid to not like what all
thier like.

ive got everything in my car from country to 4 hrs of chinese lyre ;-P and
consider myself to be rather well rounded musically. hell, im listening to curtis mayfield right now =^.^=

Yeah. I need to kick my mIRC addiction. I wonder if there are any ffxi rooms?

Love the Dillinger Escape Plan. Seen them live and have all their stuff.
When I saw them, they opened for Mr. Bungle. Friggin' awesome show!!!

Whereas Asiamise may come off biased, the music listed and individual performers noted proves this is knowledge and experience, not bias.

Good is good. It doesn't matter what genre you are talking about. That is all.

I have noticed a trend in the last 5 years or so that seems to be leading back to this earlier era of metal. Solos are coming back with a vengence. Less and less "Nu-metal" bands have a real cult metalhead following these days. It was good for a while, because little else that was heavy was even around. Thank God for Machine Head in 1994. After Metallica took a nose dive, and Headbanger's Ball was ignored (who the fuck made that executive decision?!?!), someone had to dig up metal's body and make it live again.

Another fine fockin' band is Acid Bath, R.I.P.
Both their CDs are tight, especially "When the Kite String Pops"...Live, they were an enigma.

I also like Candiria, Cannibal Corpse, friggin' Slipknot, Glassjaw, Unearth and many many more.

I've seen Candiria live, along with Cephalic Carnage, Rune, and Burnt By The Sun. I'd love to see the DEP and/or Converge live sometime. Another good thing I found out about recently is Between The Buried and Me. Good stuff. Goes from pure core to lovely melodic.

Now those guys put on one hullva good show. I saw them 2 times, once on the original Family Values tour, and another time opening for Mudvayne.

I've seen a video of them live. Flamethrowers, bombs, giant squirting phallus. Good stuff. And oni, I wasn't trying to be bitchy. Just informing. Apologies.

hah . . . the Jim Rose Circus and GWAR top Rammstein any day

and if you want to be really nit-picky about music, Rammstein is far more aggro-industrial than anything else

Bah, when you over-catergorize something it loses its appeal. "This isn't metal! This is death-orchestral-norwegian-core!"

Without fake cum and fire, they aren't so good. Especially in a live context.
Just my opinion though.

If this is your bag, Baby...Go with GWAR. They OWN friggin' Rammstein.
