This has been a question for me for a long time ever since my drg reached 75. Now, I want to hear some opinions on it. I personally use Mezraq, because I use drakesbane more often than Penta/Skewer/Wheeling Thrust and Mithra already have high dex so I like the +2 to STR.

I'm not saying Mezraq is better. I just want to hear some drgs opinions on this ^^ if you had to choose between these 2 weapons which would you pick and why. :)

Thanks! -Ky~

Thalassocrat. Cheaper, and it's slightly better.

Thalassalcrat was my choice of this 2 i test all kind of polearms from lv 60 to 75 and i found this one really interesting for the results is not like uber weapon for drg cus u can make it by synthesis or just simply buy it but to my taste is ur best way to go if ur drg is really good on swap from haste to dmg to ws setup this polearm adds a bit from his own status tu ur normal att besides from soloing easier colibris to solo a greater colibri with it the additional status of the weapon didnt fail at all making them such a pain to figure who to kill or hit first my wyvern or me till it was to late for them.

if u would like to test it go ahead but i really recomend it this one until u get the relic or mythic or the zeni weapon or Valkyrie's Fork.

and also i remember we had mm maybe 2 drg merit pts together in which i test the dmg of it while having the /blu sub and it work in dmg as closer to my war or sam sub

Thalassocrat's 1 more base damage trumps 2 str, period. There'd be some comparison if it was 3-4 str but 2 str will not beat 1 base damage.

Zura thank you for pointing out that little bit about about mez and thasso but I just wanted a thread to discuss these 2 weapons. if you have a preference please post it :) I like to hear peoples opinions on this.

Tigra~ thats interesting that 1 damage can trump 2 str, kinda find it hard to believe. maybe if it were the same. I may do some tests once I get enough to buy a second thalassocrat lol. I had talked with a japanese drg Jiriri about her opinion on the 2 weapons. She said Mez was better for mithra. Mithra have high dex so the extra str to drakesbane modifier would actually help more than hoping to crit. Also the 2 str from mez helps balance out mithra str and dex so its not bad for penta either. this is just what Jiriri told me. Seemed good enough reason to me to go out looking for Mezraq. ^^ But I agree thassal is cheap and almost as good/better than mez so more players would like it.

if you want something to work towards might I suggest
Skystrider.png
+
Supremacy.jpg
(+6 STR and attack, minus what you had in the ear slot)

or
ValkyriesFork.png

either of these options should give noticable benefits over thal/mez, well skystrider only if you have extra acc, asuming you use assault earring.

the calculations I did earlier work for melee damage and penta thrust

when you redo them for drakesbane in the same situation mezraq may win slightly, as I don't feel like going through again but any tiny increase would lose out to your melee damage loss of the switch, and keep in mind my calculations were all in a mezraq friendly situation. If the 2 dex moves you up a crit tier thalasocrat will win easily. race has nothing to do with which will win other than which STR and DEX tiers you hit on a specific mob, and it will change mob to mob.

thalasocrat wins in all practical situations but difference is always very small. drakesbane only made it so one could conceive of a situation where mezraq wins (where you sleep/meditate tp and only use ws without meleeing while under ideal STR-VIT and DEX-AGI situations, because anything short of ideal and thalasocrat will win on drakesbane as well as normal melee)

I am currently working towards Valk fork Jake =) but Odin is a long way off for me and Skystrider I can get but the earing will be difficult. I barely do any campaign to have the emblems in order to do the bcnm for it. So I'm just working with what I can get and currently my dream is Vfork :)

Valkyries Fork! Odin's a bit off for me too though.

I prefer the Thal, does moar dmg, but I am a hume Drg, so it may be different for a mithra.

I was in the same position with this, as I was unsure if it was a good idea to sell my Mez and get a Thally.. so I did and tested.. as a mithra drg, my drakesbanes were consistently higher due to the 1 base dmg and a little extra boost in acc from dex (not only the crit factor). Yes, there are better weapons, but its all about the way it works for the person using it. Depending on your other gear, mez may be better. Only 1 way to know.. to the parser!!

Me personally, I got the best of both world with my Fane: DMG +5, STR/DEX +2 =)

Valk fork, then thallasocrat.

Go for a Fay lance with at least DMG +5 if Vfork is out of reach. Obviously any Str or Dex added would just be a bonus.

I grabbed a thallasocrat, 1 more damage with dex and vit boosts is always welcome, especially since drg has access to so much str boosting gear but not so much dex boosting.

And now there's the Oathkeeper from the magian trials to add to the mix. When you complete it, you will technically have 99 dmg total. (which is 1dmg short of relic) Though the 2nd to last trial is a bit messed up for a drg to fight since an over powered RDM hecteyes VNM with some serious physical resistance is a little unfair. But if you don't mind camping a bunch of NMs, this is a nice alternative.

I have a Mezraq+1 and I've merited with both that and a Thally, and my Mez+1 did the better job of dmg output.

Much <3 to ya Anekei.
