Yes police will be lenient with things. They also can't force a search unless there is a warrant. The cop can ask permission for a search, but you can say no then they can't do shit past that until they get a warrant because there is probable cause. If a cop pulls someone over for marijuana usage it's either gets thrown on as a misdemeanor on top of another misdemeanor such as speeding.
