So my Rock Band's guitar stopped registering downward strumming, and I had to repeatedly strum upward. I email EA customer service, and they send me a replacement guitar along with a box to send out the broken one. I lose the shipping label, email them and ask if they can send me another, and they tell me I can keep both.

This is the first, and probably the last time I will receive a faulty hardware and have absolutely no bitterness. Alternatively, if I get a Red ring, I have to wait for the box, ship it out and then wait for it to come back. Microsoft, do what EA does and I'll shut up about the RROD.

With regards to the two different shipping/replacement methods, they can't do that with all kinds of hardware. Sending out a replacement 360 is likely TOO big a hit financially, while those Stratocasters might as well be fisher-price toys considering how ridiculously cheap they feel. It's a difference of like $20-30 for the guitar vs. $300+ for the console...

You've got it. Sure, Microsoft's replacement service isn't Grade A. But they run the risk of losing exactly what Tagrineth said and oh god I can't add much more please don't hurt me.

The RRoD deal with MS is fairly case by case. I've had people in my store that takes about 4 weeks to get their Xbox back, and i've had people come in who have gotten a new xbox is ~5 days.

I think they deal with the RRoD well, beside the fact they shouldn't have to deal with it at all, they just need more consistency.

Microsoft was doing it long before EA.

I bought a Microsoft Natural Keyboard 4000 some 2 years ago. After about 6 months, the right Shift key stopped working. I called them up and explained what happened. They send me a new keyboard and said "keep the old one".

4 months later, it happened again (though it was different keys that broke). Called them, they sent a replacement and said "keep the old one".

It happened a third time but I didn't even bother calling... there was obviously something wrong with the print design on that keyboard map and I didn't want to deal with it again.
