You should intake two quarts of water per day, suggesting you live an average lifestyle.

Does / can milk count towards that?

I don't believe so.

Milk, though you drink it, is actually considered a food.

I don't exactly get it, but because of that fact, I don't think it would count towards your daily water intake.

I was making milkshakes, and was thinking... this isn't "like" water... which leads to my question lol.

Everything counts towards your water intake, if it has water in it, food or otherwise. Obviously though food would have a lower amount of just water in it, and wouldn't add up to much. Food Detectives on Food Network did an episode on it, by dehydrating food and measuring how much liquid was removed.

I also know there was a study that found you don't need to drink that much water to be "healthy", lol.

2 quarts of water is enough to scrape by if you lead a sedentary lifestyle, which, as we know, is the new average... /sigh

You should be drinking even more than that for a variety of health reasons, especially if you exercise.

The primary reason they recommend that much water is so you're not drinking something else that's bad for you, like soda. Or milkshakes. >_>

Yea, everything has water in it pretty much. Eating fruits and veggies is a good way to get it too. I drink 1.5 litres a day of water and have tea/coffee/juice to make up for the rest of the liquid form.

Just as a side note. For every cup of water you normally drink, you should add 1 for every cup of a caffeinated drink you consume.

Yep, a fact I realized shortly after becoming a coffee drinker once more. I began wondering why I was so thirsty all the time where I previously was not.

Go figure! =)

I drink 2 32oz sodas a day while at work, plus 1-2 cans at home, and maybe a glass of milk here and there.

I only REALLY drink water to hydrate me when i wake up hung over...

Yeah im not too healthy.

I have been trying to drink more water lately...however I seem to become an angry angry little man when I don't have my morning caffeine; be it coffee or otherwise. xD

Gogo caffeine addiction! ^_^V

By all means, you guys should enjoy your caffeine. It's enjoyable! But definitely beware of using it and sugary drinks as a crutch to get you through your day. It's not what you do some of the time, but what you do most of the time that defines your nutritional health. I realize many of you are younger and unable to fully appreciate that your diet affects your mental and physical health. After people change their whole diets for the better and include the proper amount of water for them, every time I hear the surprise in their voices exclaiming they never realized they could feel so much better. God knows I drank and ate plenty of crappy foods in my life, but poor lifestyles can and will catch up with you. Water is a great habit to adopt, even if you can't bring yourself to kick nasty habits. At least you would be getting the myriad benefits of water.

So long as your pee isn't dark, you do all right hydration-wise. The clearer the better.

Dark yea, but when you take multi-vitamins... the first time you "go" after is kind of a fluorescent yellow lol.

Drinking a cold glass of water first thing in the morning is also good for your metabolism. Cold because your body has to use energy to warm it up.

I drink on avarage 7-8 cans of soda a day. On the flip side I tend to also drink a gallon of milk or orange juice through the course of one day.

I think I've been up keeping my water intake pretty good. I usually drink about 1.5 liters plus an additional .5-1 liter when I workout. I drink orange juice in the morning and sometimes gatorads during my evening meals. I mix my protein shakes with milk so I usually drink about 8-16 oz 3-4 times a week. Its pretty rare I drink sodas. Sometimes I have a 2-4 cans per week and sometimes I'll go weeks without any soda. When I do drink soda it's usually coke zero. On top of that, I can't stand coffee so this makes my caffeen intake next to nothing.

I've gotten into the bad habit of drinking way too many energy drinks. If I'm tired at work, I'll fall back on the placebo effect. I need to get out of that habit, even though I drink the sugar free ones when I do. (I don't drink soda or coffee at all)

I haven't been drinking much water, as of late... even though it used to be all I would drink. Which is a bad idea since I work out 4-5 times a week.
