Just wondering if anyone has -facts- on how mining points spawn. The impression that i am under is that there are at least 3 points up minimum in a given zone. However, for the last month in halvung, the points just aren't spawning like they should. The 2 points at j-4/5 are almost always up, but they are impossible to mine do to an archaic mirror and about 5 trolls in that tiny room. I'm rather at a loss as to what's happening, as the zone is almost always empty, so that rules out hackers. Anyone have any thoughts?

If it's anything like harvesting I'm pretty sure there isn't really a minimum number of spawn points up at once, except one of course.

I would have thought that there were a set number of points always up. When one despawns, it pops somewhere else.

If two are stuck behind a mirror, then its quite possible that there won't be many others up, and you'll have to run a lot to find them...

What I've seen with harvesting is that every once in a while it seems like there is only one spawn point up. I've noticed this in Bhaflau because I will generally run around and check all of the spawn points before I try the one you can agro the tigers at if you're not careful. It doesn't happen often (and usually only after I've been at it for a while) but it corrects itself once I empty that point. It's like all of the random respawns finally end up in that one spot.

Again this doesn't happen often and it's harvesting not mining but I think that mining is probably similar.

The past few weeks ive been mining in halvung, and ive seen at least 4 up at once, but i have also seen only one, the one on the S side of that troll room.

But ya, the troll room is pretty tough, the mining point on the N side of that small room is easier to get than the one on the S side. The N side youll really only need to worry about 1 troll if you position yourself right. And for the S side, well, it can take awhile for them to turn around. Just try to hit that one like once or twice, then put up invis as fast as possible so you dont get aggro(repeat till its gone).

If you do get aggro, just move W a bit into the hall, die, then RR back up

I remember mining in Halvung a while back and at some point mining points will pop one at a time only, that was weird. Maybe someone poped and was mining too, idk, but my feeling is that it doesn't work like harvesting. What I did for the troll room is have a macro

/ma Invisible Pchan
/item Pickaxe <t>
This will show you non-invisble for a very short period only.

Another solution for this room, is to go rdm/thf or with crimson legs, cast diaga on the true sight mobs (DRK and RDM if I remember, so they first cast then run) and train them to the zone (the one you escape to). Come back and outrun the NMs to the room where normal ones will repop (you can sleep them), and empty the 2 Mining Points. If you /thf you don't have to worry about crawlers, if you use crimson do it at night, since they zzz.

I do believe there is no minimum amount of points that has to be up at a time. When I mined Gusgen mines, I used to do it frequently with a friend and we'd split up between the top section and the bottom section, switching areas off and on. There were times when points wouldn't respawn in either area for a good amount and I could do my rounds several times without seeing a single mining point. It's possible the point popped and depopped rather quickly, I have seen that happen before and I don't understand why, but I doubt that I missed a single mining point for such long periods.

From what I can gather, each zone has its own treasure pool much like chocobo digging does and it's refilled day to day. Once the entire treasure pool is empty or near empty, less points pop because there is less treasure to distribute. That's why on some days, usually fairly early, I'd get colored rocks matching the day and from what I could tell, never more than 3 in gusgen mines. I'd recommend if the mining points were slim and the drops were meh for quite awhile, just afk until the next game day and then retry your luck. The again, I've never mined those areas so it could always be different.

This is an idea i had been mulling over in my head also. With chocobo digging, during a new moon, there is a very small amount of items per zone in a given day, and they are very slow to reload. I haven't been taking much notice of what moon phase it was during these problems in halvung, since the items i was after were fairly common. This is something i'll have to keep an eye on though.

I always wondered if it might be that rather then a number of different points popping, it might be a number of digs.

Sometimes you get one fat point and then you don't find any other point after running around like a headless chicken.

Then again I remember trying to log in one of the ToAU areas (I can't remember which one, I think it was the mire) and I was so ticked because I would go round and round for like an hour and I could not find any point. I bet there was some point I missed but it was darn frustrating....
