MIP-mapping unlocked!

When i was reading the regedit checking out the resolution hack, i found that when i switched mip mapping on and off the value 0000 changed from 0 to 1.

Go into regedit by selecting the start bar then run, and typing in regedit and hitting enter.
Then goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEnix\FinalFantasyXI.

By increasing the value data of the value number 0000 to anything over 5 in decimal you start to see MIP mapping accually work!

Now if only someone could tell me why my computer runs this game slowly yet it is much better than min requirments i would be happy.

Well try it for yourself its not hard and it does work....well atleast for me it did.
Found on Allakhazam which found it on IGN.

Poster on Alla said that 3 worked best for him/her. Tried it myself and 3 works fine.

hmmm.. I got away with quasi mip mapping by increasing my Anisotropic Filtering. With this mip mapping hack, can I set my Anisotropic filtering back to default? Reason why I ask is that I remember reading somewhere that it takes more processing resources to perform Anisotropic filtlering versus Mip Mapping.

I posted some graphics tweak guide on the General Forum a few weeks before you came back Sculli, it included this. Maybe that should get resurrected =P

Done. Stickied it too, even though it was somewhat of a repost (grumble grumble). lol

Would someone mind explaining MIP mapping to me? I've read the official explanation (the one in the help file) multiple times and I still don't get it.

. . . I always thought you could just do:

Start > Programs > Playonline > Final Fantasy XI > FFXI Config > Check "Enable Mip-mapping."

But maybe you guys would prefer to do it the hard way =\

I think they're saying that that doesn't actually seem to do anything, and that this makes it actually work.

the MIP mapping option does work, but is not that noticeable, if you use a higher level of mip mapping you gel blurry textures, which you can deal with if you put your anisotropic filter on a high setting, still, I hate blurry textures, I'd rather see it crisp and a little bit jaggy than if I were having issues with my sight.
