Fei'Yin was not one of the arks that housed the mothercrystals. It was a Zilart structure made of cermet ("crag-rock") to be sure, but that does not make it an ark.
Don't recall the ZM4 cutscene's graphics exactly, but it may have used Fei'Yin as the best graphical example when referring to something else. For example, during Sandy 9-2 (I think) when Rochie's giving his flashback and talking about Tavnazia ... those woods you're seeing are quite obviously Ronfaure-style forests rather than Lufaise/Misareaux-style. Because Sandy 9-2 predates Lufaise. But at the time Sandy 9-2 was released, it was quite believable that Tavnazia may have been wooded very similarly to San d'Oria.
Recall that the ark housing the Vahzl mothercrystal was *destroyed*. Also, the mothercrystal is under Xarcabard. Raogrimm comes into contact with it (later becoming the Shadow Lord) when he falls below Xarcabard. The Vahzl telepoint - which, by the logic of the other mothercrystals' telepoints, is somewhere near the mothercrystal - is in Xarcabard. The way to get to the mothercrystal is underground from the western side of the Pso'Xja tower at the very western edge of Beaucedine.
Pretty sure that the Vahzl ark is just plain gone. Or possibly buried under Xarcabard's snow. You can see the crystal lines extending out into Xarcabard too - they may indicate where the crag used to be. They do *not* extend to Fei'Yin, and remember that they exist to connect the five arks to Delkfutt's Tower.
And the fifth mothercrystal is in Al'Taieu, the Zilart's capitol, at the bottom level of the very center of the palace. That's obviously not ark-shaped either. The picture is merely a representation, using images of arks (of which there *are* three and may once have been four) instead of images of the mothercrystals themselves. It's obviously a representation if for no other reasons than that the angles are completely wrong and the distances are totally not to scale.
Also, there's this interesting little tidbit from a quasilumin in Hu'Xzoi:
"Fei'Yin, Ro'Maeve, and Pso'Xja destroyed during spatial transfer of Al'Taieu. Heavy casualties recorded among Kuluu personnel."
Kinda indicates that whatever the purpose of Fei'Yin, it was destroyed by the spatial transfer more than anything else.
And let's not forget that the inside of Fei'Yin looks like a perfectly normal explorable area, with a fountain and an arena and lots of rooms and honestly a mostly intact interior, and not this ultra-secure gated-up thing that we have seen of the inside of the arks. If it *is* an ark, where'd they put the mothercrystal?
Long story short (too late), Fei'Yin ain't an ark. (Ro'Maeve was just the Temple of Desolation, home to Hall of the Gods. Aside from its having the way to Tu'Lia, it has nothing at all to do with the mothercrystals.) I admit that for a long time I thought it was as well, but there's just too much information to the contrary for me to believe that any more.
