*Before I say anything, if you were part of the alliance and you are reading this, I have reasons for what I did. I am sorry if I seemed like an ass, but really.. c'mon..*

So, I finally hit 58, put on my Drachen Mail, I hit my milestone. I am happy, nothing can get better. Until I realize I can get Rank 6. I join up with an alliance to go all the way to the Throne Room and defeat Shadow Lord. Everybody was 55+, had a 66 NIN and 75 NIN who would tank, one for each party's turn. We all teleport-vahzal and reach Castle Zvhal Baileys. Now the fun begins...

A couple of times inside baileys, we get lost, myself included. Before we even make it to the Keep, there were 4 deaths, not one myself. We eventually(after everybody was raised) make it to the Keep. 75NIN scouts a bit, and decides that we just fight our way to the Throne room, which is fine because it shouldnt be too hard with 12+ people. Some AFK people were accidently left behind, and died, but were raised and continued on.

After about an hour of going through Castle Zvhal, we make it to the Throne Room. We awe at the top, how spacious it is, and take about a 10 minute break to get things IRL out of the way, and to setup party configuration.

I was in the party that would go in to fight Shadow Lord first. The PT configuration was me(DRG), 66NIN, WHM, BLM, RDM, RNG. We eat our foods, get our buffs, do a few /cheer, /hurray, etc. emotes, recieved good luck wishes.. and we step in the battlefield.

Everybody is in... except for the NIN. He suddenly realizes he doesnt have the mission accepted, and everybodys reaction to one point or another was 'huh? wtf?' or something along those lines. We figured we could switch out the 66NIN for the 75, and so we did. But because we already entered the battlefield, the NIN cannot enter....

...god damnit.

The first responce was for me to tank. Knowing I have shitty Defense and VIT i said I cant tank, and that we should just exit the battlefield via tele or warp, because we didnt have a chance. Nope. The RNG runs up to Shadow Lord and gets aggro, so I voke. During the fight I engage and disengage a couple of times, because well.. I'm nervous. The RNG gets alot of hate from Sidewinder and Eagle Eye Shot, and he eventually dies, and delevels to 55. The WHM eventually dies from trying to save the RNG's life. The BLM then casts a strong spell, which i forget what it was, but it was enough for her to get killed. Me and the RDM are left.

Shadow Lord is at half health now.. in first form. Everybody is telling me to 'kill it.' The RDM will 'keep me alive, and will convert to get MP if necessary.'

-_-;;

So, here we are, a DRG and a RDM, soloing Shadow Lord. Because of such healing on the RDM's part, he gets the aggro and dies. It's me and my wyvern left. I take auto target off, and Ember(my wyvern) is still attacking him. Shadow Lord does as I wanted him to do, and attacks Ember. She dies pretty quickly, and I'm hauling ass to a corner, and bust out my Scroll of Instant Warp. I begin to start the Warp countdown. Ember dies, Shadow Lord's eyes are on me now. Warping, hits me, in the yellow. Warping.. hits again, in the orange. Warping.. hit, in the red..... I warp.

I end up in Jeuno dead and deleveled to 57.

Thankfully, very thankfully, Daroth and Kateverlasting just happened to be at the Home point. Daroth notices my dead body, and gets me a raise, from none other than Kat. She casts Raise III on me, I get my level back, and I am deeply grateful.

Now my question is... did I do the right thing? I mean, I did not tank well at all because I knew we were all going to die, we had no real 'tank' and did not stand a chance. I said in the very beginning to Teleport or warp out of there so we can all live. But I knew that we would die, I dont know if they knew that as well.. whatever. Am I bad for doing that?

No man, you predicted the battle well, and you did what you should of, warped your arse out, and I am glad, because you didn't lose your level(you did, but you got it back). The others should of foresaw their death and warped out too. And for not tanking party, dude, DRG's can't tank as it is, even if you were nervous, you did the right think.

PS: I still think your armor makes you look like a pimp

Ele, my friend....IMHO u did what u had to do in order to survive, u warned, again and again and look what happened for ppl not listenin to some comon sense.....

i havent fought Shadow Lord but i have plenty for high lv frds who have, and this is just my perspective

1. no tank+Shadow Lord=SUICIDE
2. DRG > Tank= Not a good idea.

and imagine if u would off died in there how, long u would have to have waited for a raise...and probably raise I.

Conclusion: godd that u warped when u did...u died(ovious from start), but warped bf u did, got a raise III and got ur lv back(from frds that were right at the HP at that)

just imagine what would off happened if hadnt warped when u did...

that is all :D

lol The only thing I think you did "wrong" was not warp out earlier. I mean you tried to tell them.

I remember when I tried to do the Bastok Ecco-War. We had a group of 14 people with the lvl range being 14-20. I tried to tell people that it wasn't going to work out but we went in anyways. We aren't even in half way and 3 people have already died. A Wtm mining was nice enough to raise them. While we waited for the res sickness to wear off and for them to heal, I told people that I was headed out once they were healed. If they wanted to come with me (i was the high lvl ><) then to follow so we could protect each other on the way out. Nobody wanted to leave. I warped out and later received several hate /tell saying I would be blacklisted.

/em sighs.

Im glad you didn't lose that Radiation Grape outfit I saw you in. Like I said in another thread, I tried 5-2 last night as well, but couldnt because the alliance we decided to form was a bit too disorganized. At first I thought it was a good idea, so we could easily dispatch anything in our way along the path, but in the end it was just too much of a slow down and we had to warp out before it got done. I felt bad for leaving the other half of the alliance there, but it was just something that had to be done.

Eleib, Poor Eleib

Call me a coward but I would’ve done the same thing – Invincible + Instant warp ^^ (Mind you if I was there, I would doubt that many ppl would of died. If a mob (NM) has half of its life or more and 3 or less members are standing = Every man for them self (But you know if you’ve partied with me in the past, I’ll take one for the team). Eleib, I wouldn’t have changed a thing except I would’ve warped prior to fighting Shadow Lord and regroup.

Eleib, Do what you gotta do to keep your butt live.

PS. To all Paladins, don’t run like a coward and do your job right (not pointing any fingers)

That's one of the problems with FFXI, just no good way for player organizations to develop. If you were there with buddies of your's, then I would have said warping out was a shitty thing to do, as you are all in this together, you die together or you make it together.

Since those people were complete strangers, who weren't willing to abort the mission at a time when it was clear that success is extremely unlikely, I don't see how anyone would be mad about you warping out.

Shadow lord is hard for a few reasons, most of which beign you have to sneak and invis everyone which is why having one pt go is FAR easier than an alliance even with just 2 pts. From the difficulties in getting to the throne room i can tell you were kinda doomed to begin with. Getting there should have been CAKE being the map to zvahl is EASY to obtail AND read, and your 75 ninja can walk around freely opening all those damn doors. If your group was 55+ and cant keep its sneak+invis orginized or let the alliance know when they go AFK....

:( *wth is wrong with this generation*

Anyways, when the 66nin nyoko'd (LS-term meaning THAT GUY who says 'Um... What cutscene?') was the time to warp. DRG cant tank the shadowlord. ESPECIALLY a pre-60 drg. i wouldnt even let a 70drg tank it, as it hits really hard. So yeah you did the right thing, and i wouldnt ever go back to do SL with this group again, even if they were good friends.

*shakes head sadly at the up and coming retards...*

From who >.>

I must [silence] them....

but yeah :D although if no one minds i'll probably still post here.
