After the win of the Adults Only rating over Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the current battle over The Sims 2, media watchdogs are now starting another battle with the ESRB. In the online role-playing game called Final Fantasy XI, it appears as if there's pubic hair on one of the species you can play in the game. They are rallying to get an Adults Only rating on Final Fantasy XI, which would mean that it wouldn't be sold at most retailers anymore until it is fixed.

I am surprised they changed the rating on GTA based on that scene. If anything it should have been adult from the extreme violence through out it, but I guess parents are more worried about their kids being expossed to a sex scene than mass murder and drug abuse.
Rones said:Uhm how do you reason that from my post? I said the sexual taboo is too strong. If anything sex ed should be before high school, but better late than never.
Rahvine said:The main point here, is that the "pubic hair" is just shadowing on the character design. So no taboos messed with, we are taboo free.
It feels like you are really trying to disagree with me on this while actually saying the same thing I did. :? I have always argued people are too sheltered by taboos, but I was pointing out a logic flaw that sex is more taboo than mass murder and drug abuse. Of course I don't think exposure to this is going to increase sexual activity or violence. Combine this with the fact that the only ones able to see the sex seen on GTA are computer users who have access to the internet (porn central  ). The game already had a mature title putting it at 17+, but changing it to Adult only puts it at 18+. I would hope all 17 year olds have already had sex ed, so changing it to 18+ for that scene seems absurd given the content already in the game (which could be called much much worse). Not really from your post, but the whole thing isn't because there are 11/12 year olds playing the games(Not saying there aren't,) rather than teenagers 15-16, with parents who like to shelter them.
It's not really a matter of age, as much as it is a sense of maturity, and a knowledge between fantasy and reality.
My Parents have let me play violent video games my whole life, and I've not once carried out an act based on something I've seen in a movie or game.
