MNK in teh PT

As a Monk, you can conduct some serious SC's with Samurai and Ranger. IE: Tachi: Goten + Shoulder Tackle = Light Skillchain. When fighting Goblins or undead, the combination is sickness. So as a monk you as to do constant damage, but you need to keep your gear up to level to be truely effective. Slacking in gear will seriously deprive you, evne more so than most other jobs. Learn skillchains well, keep gear updated, and pwn others. That's the trick ^.~

...No, just... no.

If you're that desparate for Transfixion, do One Inch Punch -> Tachi Enpi. And it's funny, because that's an impossible SC. Tachi: Goten -> Shoulder Tackle = Impaction, Thunder. *edit* Scratch that, it makes Reverberation. Goten != Gekko

And more importantly, if you're fighting undead, there's only one SC you should be using, and that's Fusion. Open with Tachi: Kagero, or Flaming Arrow, maybe Red Lotus Blade, and close with Combo / Raging Fists. That is the bread and butter MNK SC. If you need to burst banish for some freakin' reason, do that, don't force the MNK to use the worst WS he has to -close- the chain.

To clarify, Light is NOT the same as a light-element SC (Transfixion). Light is the level 3 SC usually formed by Tachi: Kasha -> SATA Shark Bite, which does Fire/Wind/Thunder/Light damage. Transfixion is the crappy level 1 SC that nobody uses because they can do a level 2 Fusion instead.

Damn, Mai came out with the guns firing. Let's just go ahead and say, since he's obviously a low level, that he doesn't have half of the skills. So now we have to focus on Combo and Shoulder Tackle for now. I'm pretty sure Tachi-Goten + shoulder tackle = transfixion though. For now he needs to focus on low-level SC's like burning blade + combo= Liquefaction (I believe). However, I'll conceed that in the long run you obviously will know more than me with Monk's. 75 Mnk compared to my 14 or 15 monk.

Level 2 SC. Burning Blade -> Combo = Fusion, level 2 SC that's way better than what you suggest. And I assure you, Goten -> Tackle = Impaction. Goten's A is Light. That chains into Shoulder Tackle's A, making Reverberation, Water. For some reason I messed up earlier and got Gekko confused with Goten. The only way to get Transfixion between MNK and SAM is One Inch Punch -> Tachi Enpi or Tachi Goten. And for god's sake, at least let the sam use Enpi if you're going to do that.

I'll say it just this once for clarification. The level 2 SC's are available from the first time you start skillchaining. If your party can't make a good SC because you've got a THF and a MNK chaining with each other at level 20, well, that's the party leader's fault for making a shitty party setup. At which point, they're better off soloing their WS's than putting two of their worst together just to get a flashy SC effect.

The point is, making a MNK (or any job) use a horrendous WS to achive a level 1 SC is, 99.999% of the time, utterly pointless and overall hurts your party's damage output. Level 10 or level 75, it doesn't matter. There are a few exceptions, like Shoulder Tackle -> Tachi: Hobaku so the BLM can burst Blizzaga on a weak-to-Ice mob one Iceday. But that's the only time your party should be putting together two sucky WS's for a level 1 SC.

and noone is talking about the lasers :(

Huh? Oh yea, the lasers... That's like talking about Kick Attacks, or Double Attack, or Asuran Fists... Just a part of the job, not worth talking about. Though the twin beams of death are awful fun to watch.

Tachi: Goten -> Shoulder Tackle is Reverberation. A Monk can open Transfixion with One Inch Punch, or close Transfixion with Howling Fist. Either way, Transfixion is a shitty skillchain. Combo will be your main weapon skill until at the earliest Backhand Blow. All these weapon skills pale in comparison to the lasers though. Just be careful where you aim them. During 1 xp party in Kuftal, I "accidentally" hit a Tarutaru with them. Nobody has seen her since.

I don't understand a damned thing you guys are talking about.
@_@

We're all side-tracked and rambling now. Moral of the story: Learn SC's, farm to have good gear, and pwn. :B

I'm guessing that Burning Blade -> Combo = Fusion would be considering I chose /WAR???

Nono, Burning Blade would be used by your party's WAR, or PLD, or whoever has a sword, and then 3 seconds later, you would use Combo, the two WS would react with each other, and it would create additional damage in the form of a Fusion skillchain.

That chart confuses me more than reading your conversations about SCs...
>.<;;

Ws of element + WS of same element on same 'teir' = Skill chain (normally)

+Spell of same element = Magic Burst (uber dmg!)

Eeew, that's the ugly chart. Use Aden's.

http://www.adennak.com/downloads/renkeijpg.zip

The general concept of skillchaining is to stick two WS's together and get an additional effect your BLMs can nuke into for increased damage. It'll make a lot more sense after you've done it a few times.

lmfao, yeah it does that. lol. Start by looking up your weapon skill in one box, and find a weapon skill of a party member in an adjacent box. That'll create the skillchain of what is said on the arrow.

Ah.
I think I get it now...

Dont worry its alot easier to learn once somone demonstraates it for ya.
Once i learned how to sc i never messed up my timing more than 6 times all the way to lv 67thf. It's really easy once you do it the first time on purpose.
balically make a macro with boost beserk whatever then a line waying "/wait 1" the next lline should have your weaponskill
eg
/ja "Boost" <me>
/wait 1
/ws "Combo <t>

press the macro about 2-5 seconds after the you see a melee job do something flash with thier weapon and viola you got a skillchain if they didnt miss.

Except it's not the same element... Back to the Fusion example, you combine Burning Blade (Fire) with Combo (Thunder) for Fusion (Fire/Light). Again, check out Adennak's Renkei Chart, it makes more sense when you can see it all laid out in color.

That's definately a better SC chart Mai. It has some from ToAU and the bloodpacts in it. Like I said, I just googled it -.-;;
