Mods should NOT be able to have rating privlidges

Olrox made a comment to the effect of just getting rid of the ratings system entirely as it just brings about drama. QCDN is all about drama. Some of us don't get cable and the next best thing is without a doubt coming on here and getting our daily doses. This would be an extreme fix to a not so extreme problem. The only concern I personally had relates to the powers the mods really have on here. As Arc said himself, he can log into each and every one of our accounts and go through every last one of our messages. He can say and do anything he wants to any of us in PM or via the rating system unchecked. Different mods have different levels of control over this site but the flaws are still there. Just fix the flaws on the basic level and let people keep getting their rating fixes.

It isn't like Arc or any other mod actually logs onto our accounts or anything...

Exploits: Admin: Yes. Moderators: No. Global moderators can only change comments left in reputation -- potentially allowing us to remove innappropriate comments. As a recent affair realized, Admins can however alter reputation power, and as well, alter singular reputation comments/powers.
Just for the sake of keeping things straight, global mods can change reputation level.

Take a totally average person and offer him a job at a bank. On paper the person is honest and trustworthy, and completely qualified for the job. Day after day said person works around money and other valuable information with the same level of integrity that he exhibited to land him the job in the first place. However in the back of that dude's mind, day in and day out, he is constantly aware of all that money just sitting there waiting to be taken. Initially the employee would never have dreamed of the idea of taking that money but after time the temptation is there. Oh, the employee works alone, on the night shift with an un-locked safe nonetheless with the only 'check' being his time-card he swipes each time he goes into, but not out of, the bank.

Yes, it is a long metaphor for the MODS ability to log into our accounts and the only timestamp he MIGHT be able to leave is is labeled in the above right corner of your screen. For me it is: Welcome, Guyfox. You last visited: Today at 06:04 PM. There is little other proof that a mod could log into your account and peruse away. Would they? Most of them wouldn't, but there is little closure in knowing that the system is flawed and there is little anyone can do about it. I'ts all gravy though, I learned to take my Mithran sex business that I run out of my moghouse and advertise it in places other than my QCDN message system.

They'd have to change your password to log in as you.
Funniest scenario is if your password was "P@ssw0rd" and they used exactly that.
But no one is that stupid.

Are they?

hehe, interesting thread. I agree you should be able to ignore such mods (perhaps not admins, they'd be the only ones I'd say).

But as for the rating stuff, I don't particularly care. Green, red, blue-ish, who cares? it's nice to see comments sometimes (be they red or green) cause they are (on rare occasions) interesting to read. But really, I just click my link to QCDN and get to the forums and browse quickly :P but hey, to each their own.

What type of information are you storing on QCDN? Have you PM'd yourself your SSN, credit card numbers, POL ID, phone number, etc?

I could care less if a Mod or anyone else were to read my PMs. If information is that sensitive, I don't put it on a public forum - anywhere.

You and I may not be stupid enough to put that type of info on here but you know there are people that do. Do we know this for a fact? No. Do people have personal conversations on here that they would be uncomfortable with other people knowing about? I'd bet money on it.

So one of our Mods is going to go through each account until they find someone to take advantage of? Sounds a little unlikely to me.

And - if people are ridiculous enough to store information like that - there is probably only one way for them to learn that isn't a good idea. =/

Cry more you fucking pussy.

Can someone rate me down? the worst thing you can do is give me those blue boxes. Thank you.

O.0 how? I've changed comments on ArctyraelSoc before, but never been able to change values. PM me.

No one has rated me up in 1 WHOLE day.

God, I'm gonna go cry now.

Two problems in this thread:

1) People like Jyakotsu apparently can't be ignored. At all. This is an incredibly large oversight, one that's needed fixed for awhile (Hellstorm too...)

2) People are apparently beginning to think that Jyakotsu is an actual mod.

I'm honestly not sure which of these is worse, really.
Funny you should mention jyakotsu because you did exactly what he did to grayfox to me. Also We are mods of our forums not my fault you don't know difference between a mod and a global mod. (psst we don't get the rainbow name.)
just how vBulletin handles the user groups and their leaders.[/quote]

It seems that harassing people via rate down has become the new hobby now, rate up's or downs should be a simple dot green or red with no option to attach a pissy comment alongside with them. I imagine that unsettling remarks delivered this way as opposed to a actual PM are somehow not considered subject to any forum rules and much like the flameboard free to go unchecked.

My only suggestion to you Guyfox if you find the sight of said person's rate downs to be so unpleasant is to either disable your ratings (I think thats an available option) or close the entire comment box, give such comments the attention they deserve. I've found it quite liberating really, what I dont see, doesnt bother me now. :)
Nope can't turn it off reason why I was "bitching" about it when they change the system back.

Certain people would not know what to do if they didn't have there artificial E Peen.

Also, think you missed the part where ark said he would need change your password in order to do the above. So yes he could do it but doubt he be a mod after that. However he could mess with your settings: can change your time zone, signature, avatar(including deleting it), delete you, ban you(by email, ip and username) take your post count away and many other nifty features. Well admin can not sure how much power gobal mods get. Considering you cant see/enter groups guessing not to much. Oh and there most likely a maintenance log of any changes made so if he did make a change the other mods would know.
