So this is kind of FFXI related, but also RL related. I have an ex-friend who did some very mean/hateful things to me, and I've come across evidence that would mean serious revenge, if revealed.

Also, the evidence that I found is against FFXI TOS, so basically my dilemma is whether to share this information and ruin this person's reputation (like they did to me) and possibly get their account deleted (so I can come back to Quetz and play in peace) or to just keep it to myself and get a new character/deal with harassment on my current character (that I am very attached to).

Hopefully that all made some sense.

So, I'm asking you guys... what would you do?

It's a tough scale. Sounds like you'd be doing them much more harm than they've done you, but that's tough to judge without details.

Owning them back in revenge that causes something as big (well, "big" depending on who it is and how long they've been playing) as account ban though... that'd definitely teach them a life lesson, if they have any sliver of humility and morality. It'd be a pretty painful life lesson but they'd learn something nonetheless.

Does this person have the capacity to learn from their mistake, if you were to serve such judgement? Or would they ignore the lesson within and simply seek to retaliate in any way possible?

Though not many people follow these words, and they're very cliché, two wrongs don't make a right

In otherwords, don't drop to their level to pay them back for the wrongs they did to you. You only make yourself just as bad of a person.

If you believe in fate though, what goes around comes around and its only a matter of time until what they deserve for the actions they took against you bites them in the arse.

If you're having problems with harassment on your current character, I would definitely suggest writing into SE or trying to get a GM to help. If the actions they're currently taking against you goes against the TOS, then you can at least try to get them to stop by following the rules and not getting yourself into any kind of trouble.

How bad do you want it?

A lot of times, it's best to drop it. But you'll be doing whatever you do here and in life, FOR YOU. If you've considered the consequences of taking any actions, and the moral dilemma you face, but you still think revenge is the best thing, then go for it. If you have ANY doubt, don't do anything till you've got it sorted out. Just a hunch, but you probably don't want to regret an attempt at revenge. It'll only make things worse.

What will the revenge rectify for you, if anything?

The evidence is confirmation of payment emails for Belrion and THS International. Not sure how "great" that is.

Person has been playing since PS2 release....

I think I may just go to Alexander with my friend Shizuli, because there's gonna be drama whether I say nothing or say something. My ex-friend is very vengeful (like I used to be) and will most likely retaliate, or is probably working up some way to make things even worse for me already. The person is someone I've known outside FFXI for a number of years, so Cmdr is probably right.. we will just go back and forth doing mean things to each other (inside and outside FFXI)...

But it would be AMAZING if I could just get in ONE THING after the countless problems the friend has caused me. haha

Print them out and mail them to him with a letter written in blood:

I know what you did last summer

I'd caution anyone with revenge in their heart to look forward to potential consequences of their actions. Most of the time, it just isn't worth it.

LOL That or I could print them and mail them to the friend's parents with letter reading "This is why your credit card bill is so high" :)

Seriously, who spends a total of over $500 in gil over 8 months?

"He that seeks revenge must dig two graves.
One for his target, the other for himself."

If you are being harrassed continuously, either GM call if it's really violent, obscene, or insulting... or just blist and move on.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

This person hurt you badly, obviously, and has caused you great difficulty in enjoying this game. I can see the moral issues you have with this, because you feel that by using this information you become no better than the person who caused you this pain in the first place. Ask yourself this though: If you had this information about someone else, would you report them? If so I would go ahead and do so, if not then you still have an issue of morality on your hands that I do not envy. Best of luck to you!

Once Windaria posted a post almost exactly the same as this one, basically asking pre-approval of the qcdn populace to be vindictive and nasty. How is this person harrassing you? Can't you just blacklist their ass and move on? Your life doesn't have to be a soap opera if you don't want it to be.

500$ holy shit, who would pay that for a game lol WOW. name? lol

It's slightly more complicated than blacklisting, since this is a RL acquaintance. You're right, it doesn't have to be a Soap Opera (a big part of my concern), but idk... The bad side of me just wanted revenge. Trust me, this isn't hardly as "vindictive and nasty" as what was done to me; but, like someone said before, two wrongs don't make a right.

I think I'm just gonna end up being the bigger person, since it's the right thing to do religiously, and because I really don't want to hurt a person I've known for most of my life, even if it is within an Internet community.

(It would've felt great for a second, though. /sigh)
