ok I got trashed the last time but with lvl 80 about I really really want to ignore the Blau Dolch and get something that has a nice upgrade path to lvl 80(sorry but I can't spare 600K even and it'll probably be bad in two levels...uhh perhaps I'm exaggerating abit...). I'm leaning tword upgrading the attack + version of the Dakini and turning it into an Kila with str+6 and attack +16 DMG: 38 Delay: 190

The other one I really like(and I swear I'm starting this one next) is the Twashtar with has damage 42 and delay 176. If nothing else this one just ate my Sirocco Kukri or darn close(hehe) but I like the high damage + the relatively low delay.

I ready started the first trial and feel that it's too late to turn back now but there's always the next dagger....unless you have other lvl 80 junk I should mess with lol

also with the 100% tp thing I ways play THF in dynamis and alot of times the mobs die to quickly for me to get shots off(AKA: use up TP). Also if I remember correctly this is also the case with all those imp burns.(not to mention amnesia which kills JAs) To me something with no dumb limits seems to be the best thing XD

lvl 80 is still an experimental thing so feel free to make fun of me all over again. I still say it's time for a few upgrades and something old has to go....

And as you were told before, the time and money investment in the two is about the same, yet in the majority of occasions, the blau dolch will still win because of its stats. You're grasping at straws here trying to find some sort of vindication as to your choice in weapons. Simply put, go with what you think is best for you at this point. If spending almost a months time killing mobs for the magian daggers is your thing, then go ahead and do it! But remember that during that month that you spent doing that, you could have just as easily farmed up 600k or more for the blau dolch. Time vs money really, in the end they both balance out.

so what do you want out of this thread?

just advice concerning upgrading stuff, consider how you're going to get from point a to point b

like your current daggers to twashtar, do you know how long of an investment it will take to get there? would something else benefit you in the time to reach it? If its a relatively long amount of time then you could be doing more dmg efficiently before that point of getting it. Something about the best gear, it tends to take a long time to reach if it doesnt then cool but its not likely.

so far it's been easy(just need a few more rabbits and crabs)...and by the way 75 junk is becoming obsolete so I see it as something I would waste my money on and not get it back when I sell it as prices are falling. I'd much rather get something that might be good to continue upgrading in the long run and I wanted opinions on that direction of things...shesh! So far those are the good looking ones for being lvl 80 and I don't see using a Blau when the 99 cap finally hits so could we focus on that?

LOL no, you only WISH 75 stuff became obsolete, but a lot of the gear is still very useful mind you. You seem to forget that A LOT of gear dropped in price as time went by. Lets see, a few examples: Haubergeon, Scorpion Harness, Hagun, Blau Dolch, Martial Bhuj, etc etc, the price on all of these things has dropped down tremendously as time went by. Does it bug me one bit? Nope, because thats how it is. Why not just say you're stingy instead? As for upgrade paths, theyre all on wiki really so why not go there?

not a psychologist but you want backing to tell yourself that you're right, pretty much?

I mean, if you believe something then believe it; shouldnt need another person(or ten) to make you "feel" right

sorry thats all i got out of that last post; but to reiterate it goes back to the what kind of investment/how long it takes to get there; did you ever consider that it could cost money to get the weapon? I mean the new weapons are pretty nice but since they become the best they will be priced or made difficult to obtain according to so(usually lol)

personally when i was thinking about maining THF,
I was going to go for the DEX+4 dagger and blau dolch AND Sirocco.

But again, that's just me. -wink wink-

I still think in the long term scheme of things investing my time is better. There can only be more dagger trials later and some people with have it rough if some cool upgrade comes out if they don't invest time into some of them now. I know I can't predict this stuff but it seems like a good idea and I really can't see myself using a lvl 75 dagger on 85...or even 80...

I'm trying not to be too serious about this but I still think buying that thing with the caps going up and the price falling is a very bad idea...

If you're really cautious on which dagger to obtain,

go for Mandau, it gets a level 80 upgrade through Trial of the Magians and seems to fix your worries from what I see.

I mean, if you're really up for spending the time for it.

Either that or go for a Twashtar?

I personally think the Mandau trials is the best.

Cant believe somone would want to do a trial over doing 600k worth of farming. (Im a pretty casual player and can make 600k in less then a week with 0 problem farming, thats not even including money you can make by other means.)

Those things aside, if you are worried about things in the future why dont you just wait it out? I personally hate wasting time in this game and personally wouldnt do any of the magain quests until I knew if in 4 months is this weapon going to be outdated or whatever.

You have made it clear that you are concerned with magian. Have you ever thought about just chillin and letting it ride out and see what SE still has in store? Its not what I would consider as the best option, but IMO if you are worried about the future I personally would just ride it out and see what SE has in store for THF.

you haven't seen my sister steal my accont for days on end...plus I never make alot farming...

Should make it all that much easier to wait it out, if you don't get to play much.

By the time the level cap has reached 99 and you've actually managed to get there, it's very, very likely that Blau Dolch will be out-dated. Congratulations, you can skip this one.

Heaven forbid that the best dagger at lv99 has a latent effect, though. That'll just blow your mind, won't it?

Do all the magian trials you want. You're obviously not going to believe what other people tell you over your own limited understanding of the game, so do what you think is best. Don't worry about the people snickering as you walk past; someone must've just told a joke that you didn't hear.

It really comes down to your reason for playing XI. I can only ascertain your motivations by what you post, and with all sincerity, your best course of action would be to quit and wait 'til XIV is released.

Whatever you do in XI will, by your own logic be made completely obsolete in a year (more?) when XIV moves into focus. Why waste time knowing everything you do now will come to nothing in the near future.

SE plans to increase the level caps incrementally, so if you wait for one before upgrading gear, you should wait for them all. I can't recall the timeline for the level 99 cap (someone may have the graph) but it's not due this year. I'd imagine 99 will be very close to the general release of XIV.

If you should decide to heed the good advice you have thus far been given, know that there is very little you(one) can possibly do to make a dramatic upgrade to your gear, visibly so. Most are time consuming, some are expensive. Some fall into both categories.

Will you notice a big difference using a BD? Probably not much, it will depend on other factors also. Will any other dagger make a visible impact? Probably not either. Even a Mandau? If you balk at 600k for one of the very best upgrades available to you, the chances are there is no singular upgrade that will achieve any significant impact alone.

Take the time to carefully read through what's been said to you, all the resources are already in place to make an informed decision, you really don't need to make more threads.

I have a blau and I'm doing the trials to get me the 38 dmg, +6 dex, +12 acc dagger. I plan on subbing the blau after I get the last trial done, so the moral of this story is get off your ass and figure out a way to get a blau. Either main or sub, it's part of the equation for the majority of teeves.

AMEN TO THAT!

While other pieces of gear can last for dozens of levels past their initial use, weapons have never really been a part of this equation, with only a few exceptions (read: Soboro Sukehiro, et al.).

I'd be surprised of Blau stays in the mix beyond the next update, with the Magian weapons out there. It's hard to beat a high-damage weapon with bonus stats for main-hand use, and a dagger with half decent damage and an 'occ. atk. 2-3 times' augment for the off-hand.

great getting trashed again. here's how I read the Blau to start with: constantly does 25 damage...only kicks in higher on weapon skills/critical hits. in other words 100% trash.

here's how I see it now: gets bad at 100% TP. With what people fight in XP and events anymore it's still 70% trash. I counted at least 20+ times in Dynamis(last night) where I could not get a shot off due to lag or other issues(such as things dying too fast). IN XP people fight imps and pink birds both of which die very fast and/or use amnesia making it hard to loose TP due to sneak attacks and trick attacks.(even tried to get SA or TA ws shots off in an imp burn? it's not impossible but it does happen that you have over 100%tp quite abit due to amnesia and no parties do not want plain vanilla weapon skills!). only worth 100K or less...still awful.

Trial daggers- interesting and have alot of potential for updates. The main one is the lvl 80 dagger with delay 176 I mentioned earlier(dual wield with low delays I like that idea). Requires low to mid-tier NM deaths and some glavoid shells(rare items). Stopgaps include the Dakni accuracy dagger which is easier to get due to trials being adjusted and I almost got up to the kill 200 mobs trials the other day. The point of the post was to debate them not to trash me for getting ideas of what might just get better as time and future updates will allow.

Making the cash(you guys say this is easier)- honestly I barely scrape by even when I get to play constantly(I only have 500K to equip 75 Summoner and 75 THF for getting lvl 80 so I'm saving up super slowly). I'm lucky if I can make 100K for several hours farming tigers or something(tigers were better on old midgard where I could get decent side gill for keeping hides as well as NPCing fangs in that sandy quest). I've never been into crafting so I have no skill there and I hate camping NMs and consider them a waste of time since I just know that there is something that drops constantly that makes more $$$.(and I have no idea what that is) I have no idea how you do it or claim to make 500K in one week. If I could do that I'd consider a mandu obsession....

edit: I also got super burned on deflation with my scorpy and do not want any repeats of that(man what could I do with that 8mill. I'd be broke but I'd have equips lol). People are selling their blaus right and left which is why they are so cheap now and I assume they are trading them for trial daggers....

Please stop with the "BLAU IS TRASH ARGLE BLARGLE" talk, it really isn't helping your argument.

ProTip™: You don't always have to stack your weaponskill with Sneak Attack or Trick Attack. If you're having trouble getting rid of TP, just WS without them. Same thing goes for times when you have TP and your timers are more than a few seconds from ready, or if you're unable to get into proper position for some reason.

Also, if your lag in Dynamis is so terrible that you can't manage to engage and then WS, it hardly matters which weapon you're using, as you're barely contributing anyway. Changing weapons won't fix that.

If, in the course of a 20-30 second fight, you can't find time to get rid of your TP, then you've got some other problems. Imps are an uncommon enemy once you've hit 75, as are other amnesia-inducing mobs. They're the rare exception, rather than the rule.

(When am I going to learn to stop hitting "View Post"?)

Money isnt as hard to make as you are making it sound. I told you 500k via farming a week, i was being VERY VERY conservative. I average way more then that per week, I think the lowest I have made in a week since I came back to the game in Feb was 850k (and thats not playing the game at all 3 days that week). I understand I make more gil then most (though I know alot that make more), so since you have an issue with gil, I cut it down to 600k. There are more then enough places for a 75 THF to make gil, Tigers arent one of them btw. You have TH4? Go fish mantas for christ sake everyone who knows anything about this game knows thats a monster way to make gil for thieves, just people are to LAZY or say its too boring to do it. Maybe I have played this game too long and farmed too much and am expecting too much of people, but a 75 THF shouldnt be having gil problems.

To me that seems to be the root of your problem. For 95% of people that have all the good gear in this game its because they found a niche to make gil and make the effort. Which means all your good players look at it as, "Hmm I want to be the best THF I can be, can I set aside a week of farming to get one of the best knifes in the game? Duh, no question."

Everyone got burned on deflation. I had Black Cuisses when it was worth over 30 mill. You dont see me complaining that its only worth 150k now. I got burnt on a HQ Hauberk, I got burnt on M.kris... I have got burnt on lots of things, and so has everyone else.

As everyone has been saying all along DO WHAT YOU WANT. If you are worried about "is there going to be somthing that trumps this in a couple months" nobody will say a thing to you because its probably going to happen. I myself feel the same way, I dont want to spend alot of money on gear the upcoming months because there is a pretty good chance it may go to waste and most people will agree with that.

EDIT:
I have been working on my THF on and off for years. I stopped awhile ago because I cant seem to get the drop on sirrocco. ( currently 0/5) I wont even bother exping until I get that. I guess thats the difference between you and the other people in this thread. You dinged 75 w/o even having a blau which is disheartening as it is, and now you are calling it trash. Which people see as "Justify me being a gimp, I dont care what you say, tell me I am right".

somehow my nice sister got that offnand dagger for me. you mentioned fishing? impossible as I have no skills(this includes fishing skill and I'm sure with lvl 13 fishing I can't catch any mantas with that...like I said no interest in crafting skills until recently). I've always had gill issues even leveling summoner. I really don't wana feed the trolls so to speak but when I got 75 THF I took a big break and just started doing Summoner while my gear stayed in storage getting more and more outta date. It might have stayed that way except no one wanted Summoner in Dynamis so I've been trying to do updates just for events and while my gear is ok it needs work and of the main things is that my Harpe is now obsolete(was once the 3rd or the 4th best dagger in the game behind the mandu, Azroth and Perseus's Harpe) and was made so by the trial daggers. Also the guy who was trashing me earlier: try getting off a ws in a mob of 10+ other people trying to do the same thing every battle and see how easy you think it is. This is my main problem with what you guys think is good vs what I see(and I'm not making excuses it's just my opinion which[by the way] has evolved somewhat but is still against that dagger for a different reason than it was at first). Also BTW: the way I got 8 mill back in the day(and I was half-joking earlier) was 3-4 months of stealing gold beastcoins and my sister growing of elemental ore(shared account so stuff in pots got divided out because it was only fair)...which is a bad thing to do now...

You also asked if I have TH4? The answer to that is no. To tell you the truth I've only done dynamis for six months despite getting THF to 75 as my first job ages ago(before cop) and I have not gotten any armlets(got everything else tho). My sister's LS drama on Midgard convinced me that it was better if I stayed out of it since I did not want to be in a similar situation so off to play other jobs I went. What made me go was summoner relic really but my summoner was not 75 at the time so I stared on thief relic first...

Stuff I still need for thf:
1. a decent dagger
2. heatcomb junk
3. Optical hat(just got a War bret +1...it's only 1 worse on accuracy and O hats are ugly![i'll get it anyway])
4. JSE harness(alot easier to get now that CoP is uncapped...I've just been last all last week..gonna do it friday)
5. Chivalrous Chain(I know buy the darn thing..lol)
