Ok, on video.google.com, you can see movies of ingame footage made by ffxi players. How do you do this? Id like to create a movie but I dont know how.

Fraps!

That's what I use.

Yup, and you can spruce them up windows movie maker. Your comp shold have it already installed. Also, trial version of fraps only lets you record 30 second clips... but if you're internet savvy you might just find the full version. wink wink

Once you have recorded your video though, what do you do to convert the file to a small enough size that you can upload it? And what program do you use to convert, and what program do you use to actually put all the clips together? I have downloaded a few programs, tried to "compress" the files but it never seems to work and the file ends up getting ruined... I quit trying a while back because I thought it was useless ;_;

Yeah ive been wanting to makeup some funny stuff on video thatts ffxi related for a while.
Eg a thf revolt concerning the ugliness of our af hats where we steal the rdm af hats in protest, Everybody wants to be a cat music video featuring tons of mithra ect ect ect.. I had alot of ideas of funny stuff to make.

Actually, after I'm done filming I just plop the whole movie into Windows Movie Maker. Then I work on it, spruce it up, what have you, and turn it into a WMV. Then I just delete the old file. I suppose you could use a converter, but I haven't had the patience of time to find a free one.

Lol Khaj... mithra videos, as if there aren't enough of those XD
And thanks Alyada for the info, I didn't know that by making the video with window's movie maker that it would be turned into a WMV. Next question as I can't google atm (at work) is "Windows Movie Maker" free? if so can you provide a link?

You should have it pre-installed with Windows. I don't think you can just download it off microsofts website, though if you don't have it I'd poke around windows.com and find it.

im making a guide for...my secret website coming soon on how to make even better ffxi videos. you dont have to film them in game, with a few tools you can do it all offline and make it look much better. while i hope people take my method and customize it to be their own, cause i sure dont want a ton of videos out there looking like mine cause you can tell my videos from others lol. i think it will be cool to have a guide.
also ill be working on some behind the scenes stuff for my current video!

now for ingame footage you can yes use fraps, but ive found GAMECAM to be much nices, cause you can control the camera with it!

Thanks for all the help guys! This is exactly what I needed. I have a Video Editing program that came with my digital camra, so I can link scenes and whatnot together and have alot of editing fun. Thanks again!

i use fraps as well, then put it into windows movie maker, and plop out an avi, which i put into a divx converter ^^
