This might be a dumb question, but is it possible to copy -> paste your macros on an old computer to a new computer, since they are stored clientside? And in wich folder could i find them?

program files/play online/final fantasy xi/user (Something along that line)

It is now possible to store configuration data on PlayOnline's servers, in addition to your game machine's own hard disk drive. Up to four slots are available on your hard disk for this purpose, while one slot is available on the server. One slot stores one character's worth of configuration data.
Saving ("Back up") Macros to the Server

At the character selection screen, highlight a character and press the following buttons/keys and choose the slot in which you want to save the configuration information for the highlighted character.

PlayStation 2: L1 button + L3 button
XBOX 360: LB + left stick button
PC/Keyboard: Shift + Alt + Ctrl + B

Loading ("Restore") Macros from the Server

Bring up the configuration file load screen by pressing the following buttons/keys at the character selection screen, and choose the slot from which you wish to load.

PlayStation 2: R1 button + R3 button
XBOX 360: RB + right stick button
PC/Keyboard: Shift + Alt + Ctrl + R

From wiki, idk if this will help or not but eh..

This then there will be something random in there like f309dx or something and those will be your macros and character config options ah options etc.

Bladewind is wise; listen to him, for he has the correct answer.

Also Nugo has the correct answer if you are going from PC to PC.
It's how I always move my macros from pc to pc.

Yeah, those just store your macros. Might as well completely copy your settings so you don't have to set battle effects and filters and all that junk.

Caerloc I would not recomend doing it through the server save. Reason being is that since it saves them server side S.E can see all our windor macros. This is where you would find them on your current machine Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER\ just copy the folder and past it in the same folder in the new machine.

Yeah i have alot of script macros, which is why i hesitated to store them serverside. Idk if they actually check those but i thought i would skip the risk if i just copied them.

And now for a lovely 12 hour install on my new machine.

12 hours, I just installed the game on a new PC I got yesteday and it only took me 4 hours. That was installing the game and all 4 expansions.

I was exagerrating a bit. I hope. Unless the updating gives me beef.

I left mine updateing over night last night after I installed the game. I left the PC updating at 12:20am and woke up to check on it at 3am and it was already done.

If you're copying FF from an XP PC to XP PC, use this link, it's saved me more time than I can think of.

Even if its a pc to pc copy on a local connectio without re-regestering the dll files you can just copy the ROM Folders and when you go to update it should just do a file check and would load np.

Yup yup, just keep in mind though.
Any .dat swapping you might have done like maps, customized icons/gui, character changes will have to be redone after.

He has the correct official answer!

Unofficially, like Grand said, do the folder copy. All your settings are stored in that folder as well.

Technically, if you're using the same OS (dunno if I'd try this between two different OS'), you could export a copy of your registry settings for FFXI and copy your entire Playonline folder to your new PC. You need to use the same folder or be comfortable with changing all the paths once you upload the FFXI registry info into the new registry. No update time if you do it correctly, and you keep your .dat swaps if any.

I would check into if XP registry exports can be uploaded into a Vista or Windows 7 registry before actually attempting to do so. Same thing if its XP 64-bit to/from XP 32-bit.

Im using Vista on my new computer and XP on the old one, not sure what goes?

Aside from the update for the viewer from the POL site you should be good.

Nothing else changed.
