MPK issues addressed (was: Finally...)

It's still too early to panic, I think. I'm hoping it doesn't affect pets released through the "Leave" command -- those damned spiders in the desert are too spread out for comfort as it is -- so I'll wait for the update to see how it's going to work before I get worked up.

Being able to MPK is one of the guilty pleasure thrill-rides of being a BST. It's not something I'd be comfortable doing (unless maybe Colbwa was somehow allowed back in), but it's fun knowing you can even if you don't.

Seriously, though. I do sometimes worry about unintentionally getting a person killed if a released pet would aggro on its way back. I've only had Leave a short time, so the adjustment won't be as radical to my playstyle as it will to the higher levels.

The way I read it, it's only going to apply if you zone or die. That's still going to present some issues for certain areas. Playing BST solo lvls 53-55 in Bostineau Oubilette (sp) was heaven, but it involves dragging a slime far from it's spawn point to the W Ronfaure Zone.

There's also a few levels pre-leave where I fought close to zone lines to be able to release the pet that way. But I think the pets spawned close to those zone lines anyway.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how long of a time you get before the mob disappears back to it's origin. Would be nice if they at least let it heal to full health before it disappears.

I do like what they are doing as it should cut down on MPKs, but as a Bst, Im going to H-A-T-E it. I'm not even going to try and be optimistic on this one, Bsts are going to get screwed out of most of their leveling spots. Think about it, they are trying to stop MPKs. How does a Bst MPK? With <Leave>. Yeah Bsts are screwed.

So we may wind up stuck with areas that have an immediate access to good Charmables/XP mobs..and the only one I can even think of right now is the Rumbler room at the tunnel before Tiphia..

Which actually popped on me yesterday, which totally shut down my XP session. ><

THF using hide can lose aggro from some mobs, which is basically the same effect as a BST releasing a pet.

Also, ranged attacks were affected by the change in the claiming system. If you pull your ranged weapon out right when the mob pops, you will get interrupted the same as if you tried pulling with a spell or job ability, so the faster abilities are still the best.

Wouldn't investing money on Pet Foods eliminate the need for releasing? Apart from to renew charm, and to release near death, I dunno. I haven't touched BST much so I never got high level. But I do see BSTs releasing pets and then going in for the kill. So, if one was to kill extremely fast then quickly recharm, it should work Ok. This might improve the economy on the low level pet foods too ^^;

Reward has a timer (5min from memory?). Unfortunately, you can't reward often enough to use just a single pet, and even if you could, you'd still have to release/recharm it between battles (they don't stay charmed forever...).

If a player is KO'd or moves to a new area while fighting a monster at a location in which the monster does not usually inhabit, the monster will not begin attacking others in the surrounding area. Instead, it will simply disappear.

This is how zoning works in games with non-loading zones. The monster would be teleported back to its spawn point upon reaching the invisible barrier between zones.

If taken literally then it should only affect those who zone and/or die. What I'm wondering is about all those mobs that get linked along the way.

Either way it's a bit too soon for me to cry Nerf. It'll be neat to see how this changes the game... personally I am intrigued and I wanna see a Serkit fight after the update.

Not to add too much bravado to the bst job... but most bsts are highly adaptable... you'll die if your not. If this update changes the way bst is played I have no reason not to adapt and change with the update... though from what I read into it, only ghetto leave will be affected.

Either way I also applaud the effort they are trying to make.

The 2 main reasons BST don't use pet food except for activities such as BCNM's and Missions is because

1. It can only be used once ever 3 minutes, not nearly enough for a pet to regain enough health to continue chaining. Even the best pet foods only heal for about 400 HP, so generally speaking unless it's an emergency BST don't carry or use pet food. Generally speaking it's easier to charm a new pet while the old one regens HP.

2. BST pet food is expensive for little return, we'd literally be spending upwards of 50k just to level for a few hours if we were forced into using pet food.

One main reason to carry pet food: Gets rid of those nasty dot damage specials that kill off our pets after we release them.. ex. poison

What I don't understand is why they didn't simply make mobs non-aggro/linking until they return to their spawn radius.

To me, that would have been the best of both worlds.

Hmm, they ain't mentioned anything about the mobs linking. I wonder if it disappears as SOON as the player it was attacking zones/dies, or does it stay there for a period of time first. Because if it links, then this issue is only kinda 50% solved . . . . . I mean like, say a party was fighting next/near to zone line, and a NIN decides to drag a crawler and then 2 hour, leaving the crawler next to some crawlers that another party is fighting ... well, you know the rest of the story.

Well if I read the whole article correctly they also metioned that a mob will no longer aggro others after "release" (hoping it just means that when the player dies or zones). So it wouldn't allow Bst to MPK either. That is unless the way that they are going to keep the mobs from aggroing is to make it immediatly dissapear.

One problem that might occur (i haven't played Beastmaster in a while) was sometimes the mob I was attacking would become unclaimed when I just let my pet attack him. Has that been fixed? If not, potentially as soon as the mobs name turns yellow he would dissapear... =/

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I was planning on picking up Beastmaster again. Those plans may be put on hold for a while.

This is definatly big news and will totally change alot of things. I really look forward to seeing this whole deal in work.

*(1) The /blockaid command
The command "/blockaid" was added.
"/blockaid" has the following effect:
Magical assistance (such as "Cure" and "Protect"), trades, party invites etc. from non-party/alliance characters will be blocked.
The "/blockaid" effect will be canceled if the player temporarily logs out to the PlayOnline Viewer, logs out, changes areas, or is KO'd.

Command/Subcommands:
/blockaid on
Activate the blockaid effect.
/blockaid off
Cancel the blockaid effect.
/blockaid
Display current blockaid status.

This is definatly good news for me. I dont have to worry about a WHM coming by and curing me, taking aggro, cause they think i'm in danger and dont know that i'm actually a DRG/WHM solo'ing. It makes me chuckle at how many ppl dont know the workings of Healing Breath but its understandable......there just arent that many DRG/WHMs around....we are a rare breed.

Level cooking to 60, should cost less than 500k, probably less than 300k. At 60 cooking you can make your own PFZ's for about 8k a stack, vs the 12-15k AH price.

And 50k isn't that bad for an exp session, I'll spend about 30k in 3 hours of exp on my ninja... and that's just food.

Umm.... they did that... a long time ago.

/blockaid has been up and running for months.

Oh.....well, I had been gone on a 6 month deployment out to sea. I got back at the beginning of Nov. I never knew about this.

Well that makes more sense. :D Then again, there are some people who just never read the update details unless they're forced to by odd circumstances.
