MPK issues addressed (was: Finally...)

Level cooking to 60, should cost less than 500k, probably less than 300k. At 60 cooking you can make your own PFZ's for about 8k a stack, vs the 12-15k AH price.

And 50k isn't that bad for an exp session, I'll spend about 30k in 3 hours of exp on my ninja... and that's just food.

I'm not going to get into a price debate between jobs, I honestly think they're stupid. But general cost to level BST:

22k: Fish Oil Broth
15k: Rice Dumplings

Pretty cheap, providing you don't bring drinks and whatnot, and you don't rely on items that give you reraise. Also depends on how often you use your jug pets.

If BST were (for whatever reason) going to start using Reward as soon as the timer is up, it would add this cost:

10-20k: Pet Food
10-20k: Pet Food
10-20k: Pet Food

That would probably last you 2 and a half hours. If you're lucky.

Cooking is definitely a good craft to level as a BST, but some of us don't have the time, energy, money, or interest in leveling cooking to 59 just so we can make our own bloody petfood. I myself am leveling Alchemy, and have already leveled Woodworking, but have little interest in cooking.

As far as this update, well, I'm not really jumping to conclusions. Whether or not Leave is left untouched still remains to be seen, and crying about spilled milk before I knock over the glass is just silly. This was rather pointing out the ambiguity in the update details that could prove detrimental to my fellow BST.

Meh, edited because I'm grumpy this morning and need to chill.

Pet foods Alpha and Beta can be purchased from NPCs but cure very small amounts of HP, so I wouldn't take them beyond Tahrongi Canyon or Buburimu Peninsula, if I took them even that far. Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta have to be synthed. They're obscenely easy to make, so I have a chuckle every time I hear a BST talk about their price.

jesus... sometimes when you fight a whm, rdm, or pld beastmen.. when you are about to finish them off they cure themselves and you have to recharm your pet before you die. It would suck ass if your pet just dissapeared. SE better not fuck up BST. We already die more than every job put together.. that would just be gay.

Looks like a solid deal, odds are they've taken into account for the BST issues brought up here, but we'll know soon enough now won't we? :P

In a calculated measure to put a stop to MPK'ing by dropping mobs on a victim in one way or another, it's really hard to believe that SE would ignore the most obvious - those being Leave and Hide. I do have sympathy for Beastmasters in this case, as I've never encountered the evil MPK'ing Bst. I've only encountered the friendly ones that move mobs around and generally keep nearby parties a lot safer than they would be otherwise. So yeah, a Bst nerf is the last thing I would hope for. That said, I don't think SE will leave any loopholes in their quest to put a stop to this. Whether the good outweighs the bad in this decision is yet to be seen, but I'm of the position that Bst is going to be a whole new challenge come Monday.

Im not sure if this has been adressed yet but the information provided by SE says that the materials for making the Jug pets will become alot easyer to get.

This is just a theory but this could be something SE is trying to do to make it so the BST not get tottally screwed over.. Depending on the Jug pets they add and the relative price and ease of obtaining the materials will be the determaning factor behind wether or not the BST job gets totaly screwed over but this update.

Honesly ive never played BST So everything im saying is pure speculation. But with any luck the new Jug pets will make up for change in the way the Monsters move

Currently jug pets only have a few applications:

1. Farming, best farming buddy you can possibly have. I hit TW mobs for well over 200 per hit with an uncapped jug. Most times I don't have to even engage.

2. Exp parties. When there isn't a natural mob to charm, jug pets work almost as well.

3. Missions/quests where natural pets aren't viable. Nuff said.

4. Saving your ass. A lot of times in a BST career, something can go wrong and a new pet is too far away, or the previous pet is too weak to put up a fight. In these situations we pop a jug pet and hope it either can defeat the mob, or pull hate off us long enough to high tail it to the zone without creating a train.

That being said...

When SE released the new jug pets, there was much rejoicing in the BST community. For a long time the only viable jugs post 65 have been Panzer Gallahad and Courrier Carrie. Carrie isn't too bad, only 22k a stack and makes a good tank, but for things that require offense she isn't the best option.

Panzer Gallahad is less of a tank than Carrie, but has better sic attacks and more attack power. Problem is if you're not making him yourself you're spending 100k per stack.

So, SE released the new jugs, and we were all happy. Of course, it wasn't long before we realized SE took a giant dump on the whole plan. The new jug pet recipe's are high level crafting, and the ingredients hard to find, so prices shot through the roof. Antlion jugs have died down to an extent, but blood broth and the others are still in the 60-200k a stack range, and are made so infrequently no testing can be done as to how well these perform compared to older jugs.

I commend SE for trying, increasing the frequency of the drops is going to be helpful in getting these jugs made, but I think it will do little to drop price. A lot of the ingredients are from mining and harvesting; Not many people doing those activities are going to keep those items around so they can sell them, unless prices on those items remain superinflated.

Also, we still have the issue of high craft levels required to even make the pets, let alone the HQ version (which I personally think are uncapped, but at this juncture I can do little testing). Because of this prices still aren't going to drop.

Meh, I'm not too concerned about the new jug pets anymore, too expensive for my blood, and very rare. I'll just keep using CC until something is done about it. What I am concerned about however is the way these MPK adjustments are going to effect my soloing, so I'll be doing some testing later today once I'm updated and in game.

Only antica broth and blood broth are high level really. All the other jugs made via cooking are around 60 and below, which isn't that hard to level. But yeah, ingredients are rare and I generally find something else to do instead of going out and getting them for myself, so I don't bother with the new ones. If people provide the materials themselves, I'll synth the jugs for their personal use, but that's the only time you'll see me making them.

Part of today's update is to make the newer jug pet ingredients easier to obtain.

Which has already been pointed out. Doesn't change the fact that I, and probably most cooks, aren't going to make a lot of effort to make the new jugs. There isn't an exceptional number of us making the old ones either.
